View Full Version : I would like to travel

Warning! If you're not interested in the long version, just skip to the end.
Here's the thing: My mother works at the local airline, which means that I get cheaper tickets for said airline (until I turn 25 I think). However, the economical situation being what it is in our wonderful global capitalism it now seems very much possible my mother could lose her job.
As bad a thing as that is for a lot of reasons, it also means no more cheap tickets. So in case it will come to that, she has a term of notice of 6 months. During those 6 months I could still take advantage of those cheap tickets. If she gets fired, it would most likely happen somewhere during the beginning of next year.
I have a few weeks (or rather, I can make a few weeks) of free time in march. So I was thinking, maybe I'd use those weeks to make a trip somewhere. Preferably somewhere where I've never been before. I am particularily interested in North-America and/or South-America (and surroundings), but I am open to suggestions.
So long story short: Recomendations for where to travel for a few weeks during march?
A few more things:
I prefer cheap.
I prefer places that aren't the biggest tourist rushes, altough I don't mind spending a few days in one of those either.
And because this is an interractive community, feel free to share your previous travels, future travel plans. Also feel free to tag along with me at some point of my trip, should it come to that.

You could play "Plot a route through forumites" to save on hotel costs. I live in Toronto which is probably one of the biggest places you'll want to see in Ontario, and a bus from here to Montreal would be fairly inexpensive (I think the tune of $60 CAD comes to mind).

If you're up for sightseeing and outdoorsy stuff, Yellowstone National Park (http://www.nps.gov/yell/index.htm) is gorgeous.

Oster, you end up in OK, I'd be more than happy to put you up at my place, I'm sure any cool NPFer would do the same. This is a good idea.
I might try it sometime.

I'd accept, just 'cause Oster's cute enough that I could probably use him to convince my family I'm gay and the look on my dad's face would be priceless, but the only sleeping accommodations are my little tiny bed (no room for a secondary temp bed or whatever, either), so we'd have to get dangerously close to actually BEING gay.
I kinda doubt the girlfriend would like the idea.

"Plot a route through forumites"
An interesting idea, which I had thought of. Suffice it to say, that I would hardly have time to visit everyone obviosly. I would have to plan my route well.
Mauve: As a biologist (specializing in eco-physiology, among other things) Yellowstone would be great to see indeed. Only problem is it's location.
With that I have indeed one thing to add to my OP! I am somewhat limited by where Finnair and it's partners fly to. Of course, while "on location" other means of travel, like trains, are good as well.
EDIT:
OK
Oklahoma?

If you want I could tell them that I'm an "army man" on top of it. I would be the man in that relationship.

I could sleep with her in your bed and you could stay at a hostel.

See Marker's location and posting record. Oklahoma indeed. I don't know what the state would have to offer you *shrugs* but if you find yourself here consider my door open.

Believe me or don't, but one thing is still true: Chicks dig foreigners.

You have gonorrhea?

Chicks dig Krylos, too.
It's true.
In fact in a blind test, 8/10 women preferred the sensual feel of Krylo to that of foreigners.

I'm happy with those 2/10.
Two makes a threesome, but eight is a group. I don't do group.

And now I am somehow convinced that Krylo would be the best wingman, or the worst cockblocker in history.

Yeah, fun fact, the 2/10ths were just the overflow from when I couldn't keep any more women satisfied at once by myself. Apparently my limit is eight.
Next time I organize one of those I'll make them take turns.

So the conversation here has obviosly died, but I still need to be certain about a few things.
Basically, I would make my trip between 22nd of march and 11th of april. With Finnair and my cheaper tickets I can fly to two places only (this time of year): Miami and New York. Personally I was thinking of flying to New York and moving on from there.
But to properly start planning, I would apreciate if anyone who is willing to have me as a guest during this time will identify themselves, and tell me atleast which state they are in. Later further details will be arranged via PM.
Thank you.

Costa Rica and Bali are amazing location spots, super cheap too.
NZ is amazing but not necessarily "cheap".
Norway would be a really good place to go on a working vacation, their taxes are absolutely crazy but their ridiculously high wages make up for it... I've done the math and an average joe working in Norway while couch surfing the majority of the time can walk away with $80,000+ (post-expenses) within 11 months (full time job), no special training for jobs required.
