WELL this is what's going on. Sometimes my computer will just crash (Dell Studio 1535) and for no real reason. I used to think it was doing it because of heat problems, but I got some fans and keep it elevated and it's no longer the burn causing temperature it used to be. It's only mildly warm now. The crashes themselves are basically 1) Using laptop 2) sudden turn off 3)turns on fine instantly.

I am really sick of this thing. Dell has not been helpful at all, running some tests and then making me reinstall Windows (because they were doing something else when supposed to be installing my partition for Factory Settings), which does alleviate the problem but it eventually returns. This is the 5th or 6th time, I think, and I'm heartily sick of it. HALP.

Appears one user found a solution in a CPU/Board replacement. Sounds as if there may be a short, but I can't tell without touching hardware myself. I'm sorry I can't really help you more- Tech support can be terribly trial-and-error.

It's hard to tell right now, but if you re-installed windows and the problem went away and then returned, and it's not heating problems, it would say that Nik is right... probably you're using some program that is causing this.

Or maybe, on Hardware side, you could be having a problem with your RAM. Memory failures could cause this and they could get worst with heavy usage of the mahcine wich you could relate to it being Better after re-installing Windows, even if for a while.

I mean, you could always do a memory test to make sure there's nothing wrong there. Other than that, I'm at a loss.

So it turned out to be the heatsink but then they blew up the computer. Not really, just gave me shitty new RAM. Oh well. They're gonna replace it all...soon...and give me a new 'equitable' laptop. I have Dell's company directory now, so if they don't...moo hoo ha ha.
