About a month ago, I played Pierce Brosnan's likeness in one of the most memorable games ever - Goldeneye for the N64. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqW8KdnQ-gk) Now, most of us have fond memories of the N64. Not the controllers, just the console itself - there were games like Pokemon Snap, Goldeneye, a few Zelda games, Starfox - this thing was a staple of our youths.

This is what brought this on. (http://www.cracked.com/funny-1749-goldeneye-007/) And they're right - it is one of the greatest, if not the greatest. What's better than to get into a slap match with your friends and family this holiday season?

Turok was better.

EDIT: Also there was nothing wrong with the controller for anyone willing to take five seconds to look at the instruction manual of most of the first games that came out, or numerous inserts that demonstrated how to hold it. First ever analog stick yo. Obviously better designs were found that still allowed as many buttons to be incorporated but first try is first try.

Plus there were later N64 controllers that were similar to the Gamecube controller in a lot of ways if I remember correctly.

Perfect Dark was also better but it was pretty damn good I will admit.

I bought this for my brother for Christmas. I'm so stealing it as soon as he looks elsewhere, and never giving it back.

Turok was better than Penny Arcade, too, it had raptors with laser arms that you can kill with a tri-rocket launcher. Penny Arcade is simply a webcomic.

EDIT: Don't even get me started on the triceratops-riders.

Perfect Dark is Goldeneye 2, it doesn't count.

While you dudes were playing Goldeneye with its shitty controls, limited maps and few players I was playing Starsiege Tribes over the goddam interwebnets. Somehow, despite beig on 1998 modems, lag was very rare. Tribes was amazing you all.

That's a funny way of spelling Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time.

Goldeneye: Source is pretty good, yeah, but it just isn't the same since the mouse and keyboard doesn't actively hate you.

Goldeneye was the shit back in the day though, it's pretty tragic that I just can't play it anymore due to modern games spoiling me. FPSes have that godawful flaw to them.

Anyone who used Oddjob was immediately public enemy #1, especially if it was slaps only. God dammit Oddjob, you're like the Robofish of Goldeneye.

I agree. Having to do some precise aiming or heaven forbid, aim on the floor above or below would usually entail myself shooting like a stormtrooper or a henchman in a James Bond Film.

'Man with the Golden Gun' was the best multiplayer mode ever.

Mainly as you can work together, only for the first one to pick up the gun to have a "you have outlived your usefulness" moment.

So much betrayal...it was awesome.

As were the throwing knives.

GoldenEye was THE shit. I remember playing with some crazy guy who memorized all the levels. He could kill you with an explosion through the wall no matter where you are. Or laser you to death through several doors and walls. I'd say he used hacks, but back in the day people were still sitting next to each other when playing a game, so I know for sure that there weren't any weird devices involved.

I could now sing a sweet ode to Perfect Dark the best console FPS ever.
Only it hasn't aged well. But if anyone would release a game with the multiplayer possibilities of Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, Pimp the controls, polish the levels and not make it Perfect Dark Zero they'd have made the best console FPS ever 2.

TimeSplitters didn't quite catch the Multiplayer Vibe of GE and PD for me.

Goldeneye 4-player multiplayer
no crosshairs [you could turn them off]
license to kill [1-shot kills, maybe 2-3 depending on what you hit]
pistols only

This was the best. Make it into only throwing knives for some giggles.

And what was wrong with the controls? Use the c-buttons as your WASD and then the stick to turn and look, and boom. Easy.

Did any of you ever try the two-controller scheme? That was a little fun, too.

Perfect Dark was indeed amazing, but yeah it's basically the sequel.

hahaha Turok, what a terrible game.

Tribes was indeed terrific. Modem-humping frisbee-jumping ski runs for flags without ridiculous lag? Amazing. One of my favourite shirts is my Snowblind Ski Resort shirt.

If we ran a Tribes server, I would never stop playing.

But we don't :(

I have tribes on my computer and I managed to run a server for my friends about a year back. Hit me up when I get back from the homeland and I'll totally hook us up.
Cause I am unbelievably down for some tribes.

I totally loved my turrets. I would set up turrets everywhere then you sit at a command station cycling through them and murdering whoever I saw. Or I would have a spotter in the field so I could carpetbomb areas with mortar turrets.

I'm upset at the slander being heaped upon Turok in this thread. Well, not so much if it's directed towards the "proper" games, 'cause those were a mess, but heads will roll if this hate is pointed at Rage Wars. That game was awesome when I was a stupid kid in high-school. You could play as a bug-man. You could play as a pack of giant mites that sucked players' blood and clawed guys to death! Plus, it wasn't nearly as foggy as the single-player-focused Turok games.

Isn't Perfect Dark on the 360 Arcade now?

It came out? I heard it was coming out in a "remastered" HD version (man its gonna look like total piss-ass).

...Yeah the release date is still TBA. I am getting it though.

The best Goldeneye mode is in Perfect Dark, everybody but me is playing a character with one of those giant Grey alien heads and I have a Farsight.
