View Full Version : Your Holiday Haul
Satan's Onion
12-25-2009, 09:13 AM
Yes, I know, family blah blah fellowship blah blah peace and togetherness blah de blah blah blah blah. But what about the most important part of the holiday season--all the gifts you got? In this thread we brag about all the items that were purchased for us in a futile attempt to appease the insatiable, vicious, all-consuming gods of capitalism.
For instance, I got several new CDs I received throughout the month of December (Yes, dammit, it counts!), along with a $50.00 Amazon.com gift card and the $50.00 iTunes gift card that came with my lovely shiny new purple 8gb iPod Nano. Now it's up to you to list what you got, in order to prove that your loved ones love you more than mine love me. (Answer: They probably don't. http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/tt148/fifthfiend/emoticons/smug.gif )

Muramasa the Demon Blade(already pluneged like 5 hours into it), a couple of books and a poker set from my parents. Disgaea 3 from my grandparents (funnily I don't have a PS3 til my 21st next week so it's just sitting there, taunting me with it's Disgaea goodness, totally unplayable), The Ultimate Megadrive Collection from my sister(the best surprise, already knew bout the other games). Also assorted food like candied nuts, nougat and fudge.
As I'll be 21 in a week, this is the last real Xmas haul, from here on out it's socks and jocks and CDs and grog.

FTFY.
True, the two USUALLY coincide, but not always.
Besides, I was being nice. Seriously, socks are 8 dollars for like twelve of the damn things. Those are one of those things you should just go and buy for yourself when you need them, and then when you get them as a present you should just give the 'eye of incredulous disbelief' to whomever bought them for you before saying, "Really? An eight dollar bundle of cloth?" and then moving on while slowly shaking your head to make whomever bought them for you feel bad.

I decided to give my new camera a test run.
http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc230/Shyria_Dracnoir/DSC00002.jpg
Top Row, left to right: The digital camera box (Sony Cyber-Shot) on top of a Panasonic SDR-H79 camcorder; a portable hard drive (320 GB); a portable sewing machine for costume stuff; a stuffed cat with a copy of "If You Give a Cat a Cupcake", just for cute (and it gave a few dollars to Kohls Cares)
Bottom Row, left to right: 1) The new Star Trek DVD, and 2) The Orange Box! I'm going to have fun with these...
http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc230/Shyria_Dracnoir/DSC00001.jpg
Shiny Stuff!
Starting at the top, going clockwise:
1) My sister got me this really nice geisha doll to put in my dorm room. Apparently she got it from one of her roomates XD
2) Dad got me this pretty green glass ornament for when I get my own place to decorate. It has a really nice red and gold dove design on it.
3) Some more ornaments, sorry if they're a bit hard to see; a little clay candy-cane 'M'with a teddy bear in it, a little Santa on a moose, and a kind of abstract looking one.
4) Not actually an ornament, it's a black onyx bracelet with a silver charm on it that says "Dream". Very pretty.
5) Another decorative Santa. This one has a tree.
http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc230/Shyria_Dracnoir/DSC00003.jpg
(Mostly) Art Stuff!
Left to right: A new day planner, some drawing pencils with erasers and blending sticks, a new set of colored pencils, and two new sketchbooks!
Also, I didn't get a picture of it, but my sister also got me a glow-in-the-dark Tron T-shirt. It's very comfy :B

A Fancy Hand Puppet
A Scarf knitted by me Mum

The fancy hand puppet is great because my niece'll be visiting come January, so I think I can keep her entertained.
I got some wireless headphones, which are pretty bitchin', New Supah Mario Bros Wheee, Ass Creed 2, a CD of John Bytheway (A name you will not recognize unless you have grown up in a Mormon household), a warm hat for work, some candy, some ammo for my .22, some targets, and I think that's everything. Not too bad. Just completed World 1 of Italian Stereotype Twins and it's pretty good. I should probably hold down the run button less, cuz I keep running off rotating blocks to my doom, but whatevs.

I got the same portable hard drive as you, Shyria! :D
As well as that, I got Modern Warfare 2 for the PC and Assassin's Creed 2 for the 360 (which my sister is playing right now). I only got two shirts, one with the batman symbol on it and another with the phrase, "Sarcasm is only one of my many talents." I also got some deodorant (???), a planner +$50 from my grandmom ,a battlemat thing with pens for D&D, an RC helicopter (http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&um=1&sa=1&q=Silver+bullet+helicopter&aq=f&oq=&aqi=&start=0), candy, and love!
But I also want to talk about my present for my mom, because it's special. The actual gift was a $20 gift card to Starbucks, but I decided to be all engineery this year and made a box to go along with it. The box was originally for presenting multiple present to my friends, but I didn't make it big enough. I spent $20 and many hours to create this:

Bwhaha, true.
I think because for me it's an item of clothing that you always put off buying and realise from time to time that the socks you currently own are beyond reasonable repair, so getting more of these is never a bad thing!
It does coincide with the Ol' "Getting old thing". Ever realise that you're having a fascinating conversation about washing techniques and how grateful you are for socks and pants? It can be quite unsettling.
Anyway, I like gifts that are either and/or hand made.

You are out of your fucking mind, people who give you socks as a gift are giving you the gift of not having to go buy fucking socks, because buying fucking socks is the most crushingly mundane task anyone anywhere can undertake and nobody anywhere actually wants to do. Bitching about someone buying you socks is like giving someone the finger for mopping your kitchen floor and folding your laundry.

Socks really are where it's at, you guys. Socks and underwear for Christmas is a good thing, and you should all understand that.
So I got socks and underwear. They're very comfy. :) I also got various pajama bottoms, a shirt (with a racecar on it, VROOM!), a GameMastery flip mat (Pathfinder Lodge, it's beautiful), a General Matisse mini from Reaper, TWO hats (a fedora and one of those Russian-type winter ones, love 'em both), Star Trek on Blu Ray, various candies, a second monitor for my computer, an art book (anatomy for fantasy artists), new dice and a matching bag, a gift card for Chapters, manly shaving items, Wii points, and a wicked case of tendonitis or some other arm-related pain from swinging my cousins around last night.
And maybe a raging case of jealousy at CJ and her new tablet?
Also lots of awesome fun-times with family. An excellent Christmas this year. Shit was SO cash.

George Foreman grill
Funny thing about the George Foreman grill: The original model has no timer and can't be turned off. It's either plugged in or not plugged in.
The reason for this is obvious: George Foreman never stops grilling. He couldn't conceive of someone who wouldn't be grilling something 24/7.

Not with the lean, mean, fat reducing, electric grilling machine.
Anyway, I have one of these, and it's the single most useful appliance I own. Word of advice - wipe it off with dry paper towel the second you finish grilling (a few sheets folded up so you don't burn yourself) - it takes two seconds and is five hundred times easier than cleaning it after everything cools off and dries.

I received some music, some video games, some board games, socks, several books and manga, and a bit of money [though that went toward the books]. I think, with each year, what I give others is becoming the more enjoyable part.
I'll be back home by tomorrow night, I think. Wish you all well.

I got Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and the same thing I get every year: a lifetime of regret.
New house rule: If the GF is clear, throw some raw meat on there, someone is going to want it later.
This sentence also takes on an entirely hilarious meaning without establishing the prior context.

...Then why the hell do you need the money?
Why wouldn't I need the money. ;)

After picking through them, starting with Guardian Force and girlfriend, I came to the conclusion you mean George Foreman.
It is, however, absolutely hilarious without context.

I assumed GF was for Geoff Fraizer, or possibly Grandfather (http://classic.battle.net/diablo2exp/items/elite/uswords.shtml)
Meanwhile I agree socks rock. Well, I don't use socks, but soft squishy gifts are better than the hard ones with right angles and flat sides. Funny, it's always the other way around when you're young. Probably because as you get older you buy the hard stuff yourself whenever you want.

Considering how many electronics and video games and board games and books come with right angles and flat sides, I will vehemently disagree with you.
I can get clothes whenever I want, and food [also often soft and squishy] doesn't last.

food [also often soft and squishy] doesn't last.Food is the best gift entirely because it doesn't last long. Who needs useless crap clogging up their tiny apartment when you can enjoy fancy sausages and cheeses?

Some new clothes, a couple puzzles, some iTunes giftcards, some cash that I used to get a new bass head and cab. The Punisher Meets Archie and a Paramore CD from my girlfriend.
Pretty solid all in all.

Oh, I just today got some candy canes and a 10$ giftcard to Powell's. Pretty awesome, I think.
EDIT: Oh, and I played the hell out of Assassin's Creed 2. Never playing it again.

Last year I got some decent Cheddar, Gouda and Stilton, with a jar of Plowman's relish (decent), some high-class crackers and a pack of those savoury twist thingys.
Needless to say, it was fucking ace.

Finally had my Christmas party with my friends. We do a yearly Secret Santa where we have to make the gift for each other. I made a tablet of paper that's cover looked like the Tardis for my friend.
One of my other friends got a Metroid hat. (It's amazing)
This is what I scored:

(Otacon should have a heart too but it broke. I need to glue it back on)
The box was wrapped with this:
