Episode Negative XXXV
THE BEAUTIFUL BEACHES OF TATOOINE
.
.
.
.
.

Exar Kun has recently been defeated, and the
people of the OLD REPUBLIC are only now beginning to
return to peace. As life returns to normal, so too do
many spacers leave their homes in relative safety for the
first time in decades looking to find their fortune as
smugglers, pirates, and more lawful occupations.

Promising riches and wealth CZERKA CORPORATION
has lured many of these poor men and women to a
desert world known as TATOOINE, where the people
live in constant fear of attack by vicious sand people
and other, less intelligent, lifeforms. Oppressive
contracts and lack of income makes escape from this
world nearly impossible, once a spacer has set down
upon it.

Hoping to leave the planet to find a better life elsewhere
an ex-spacer turned Miner, Davis Roth, gathers a small
group of hopefuls at a nearby cantina with a plan for
escape.

Meanwhile, a new darkness, noticed by only a few of the
most powerful Jedi masters, begins to move over the
galaxy once again...

--------

A poorly shimmering holovid plays a colorful tune in the center of the room as the blue and flickering image of a twi'lek dancer repeating the same few moves. Nothing surprising for the Czerka Corp. Miners' bar in anchor head where a small group gathers about a large man, even by the miners' standards, whom is leaning in toward them and speaking conspiratorially.

"...So it just crashed out there, but I figure this could be our chance to get off this planet. Whoever was in that ship ain't pissed away their money and time here yet--ifs we can help 'em, we might convince 'em to take us off this worthless rock when they leave," he said in a low voice, though his face was split wide in a grin. The thought of finally having a chance to get back to the space lines obviously bringing his spirit to a soar.

Douglas peered with glazed eyes of detachment into his drink which he frankly dismissed as ditch-water as he listened. His voice gruff with impatience with what seemed to be an overly simple plan, although the contrast between risk and reward was highly favorable when compared to other possible missions that could be found on this arid desert planet.

"So basically, we become errand-runners for their crew of this alleged ship, protecting them or gathering parts until their ship is repaired and hope that they'll take on extra passengers? Is that the overall implications?"

Krylo

"Well, they crashed out there in the desert, with the Wraids, Krayt Dragons, Anooba, and Sand People. They're gonna need help jus' ta survive, probably, but yeah--I figure if we can help them get their ship runnin', maybe we can get 'im to bring us someplace nice." Davis eyes seemed to gloss over as he stared at his drink, the thought of finally getting off this planet obviously nearly euphoric for him. "Maybe Manaan. God, what I wouldn't give to see an ocean again... or hell even a lake!"

With a smile he shot down the alcohol. "Judgin' by the trajectory of the crash, they should be about a day's trek ta the east o' here. Hopefully we kin get to them before any o' the desert nasties if we leave tonight."

"Well I think this is may be worth a try," Nicholai put in to the conversation. He had been content to finish off his drink, still unsure what it was, while listening to the conversation.

"At its best, its a win-win situation, they get off this rock, we get of this rock," he stopped for a moment to collect his word,"but at its worst, they aren't willing to take on more passengers, and probably pay us for helping them. So it should at least be a means to get some cash," he said.

"Its kind of a gamble, we don't really know anything about these people, so its all left to chance. What do the rest of you think?" Nicholai, for one, knew he wanted to try it, but if the rest of them objected, then so be it.

The young Cathar sat at the table, head downcast, as if in thought. There was no glass in front of him, unlike the rest of the group. This was not because of his age (the bartender didn't care about who bought them), but rather a distaste for the drinks. The first time Kharr had tried one, he had instantly spewed it everywhere, much to the amusement of nearby patrons. Just looking at one of the others taking a shot brought the vile taste to mind.

When Nicholai finished, Kharr looked up at the others through the sunglasses he was wearing. He had taken to wearing them nearly all the time, given how bright Tatooine was in the daytime. Double noon was the worst time of the day, where the level of light was incredibly uncomfortable even with them on. The heat was equally uncomfortable, especially when you had a fur coat. To him, getting off this planet could not happen soon enough.

"If there's any chance of getting off this planet, I'm taking it. I'm in." The Basic was accented, but it was very clear how serious the speaker was.

"'s not that bad a rock." Koto protested feebly, lounging in her chair. "It's got dazzling scenery, swoop racing, various kinds of sand and no water at all."

She ran a hand through her hair and leaned forward on the table, propped up by her elbows. "Well, certainly beats sitting here and slowly marinating in cheap beer. Eventually I would run out of money! I'll tag along with you to the 'alleged ship'," here she flicked her eyes at Douglas and rolled her eyes, "and see what I can do for you."

Leaning against the wall situated near the group's table, Ilyana L'Adel, known to everyone here as Petal, listened quietly to her associate's conversation. Since arriving on Tatooine, she'd adopted a more sensible set of clothes, hooded sand colored robes over her old light armor. Not as cool as she'd like, but when Sand People could arise at a moment's notice and attack, practicality won over comfort.

At that moment, her hood was down, and her black hair was unbound. In her hand was a glass of water, from the Vaporator. She idly sipped from it as the talks continued.

"'s not that bad a rock." Koto protested feebly, lounging in her chair. "It's got dazzling scenery, swoop racing, various kinds of sand and no water at all."

Petal lofted a brow at the young woman's words, before mildly interjecting, "You left out the Dragons."

"Well, certainly beats sitting here and slowly marinating in cheap beer." Koto continued, unperturbed. "Eventually I would run out of money! I'll tag along with you to the 'alleged ship'," here she flicked her eyes at Douglas and rolled her eyes, "and see what I can do for you."

"I don't see why we're discussing this." Petal stated flatly, "Those who desire to rot in this sand blasted hell, I consider you idiots." Her eyes flickered momentarily to the red skinned Zeltron, before she shut them. The ex-librarian took another cool sip from her glass. "I recommend leaving as swiftly as possible," she continued calmly, "lest the planet welcome the ship itself."

Her gaze turned on Davis, "Are there any logistic matters that you need to take care of? I can assist if you need."

If they hurried, they might arrive in time to bid farewell to the Sand People.

It would be wrong not to do that.

Vira idly clicked the tip of her fingernails agaisnt a small glass that held her water, visualizing the ripples as they eminated from the center of the drink to bounce off the edges and then back again. Whilist she could not actually see the water in a conventional way, the energy patterns that surrounded, bound, and penetrated the liquid formed a color bump-relief superimposed onto her mind's eye, revealing it's motion as it did the rest of the cantina.

Pointless, but a simple meditative regimen. Vira often found it important to perform these in crowded places where the concentration of life-forms and noise made it easy to overwhelm her senses.

"I am for doing this, but I warn you all that it is unlikely a crew would survive the ship crashing in such a hostile enviroment for the time it would take us to arrive."

Krylo

"Well we should at least try ta save 'em, right?" Davis asked in response to Vira's statement. Of course his little group of 'friends' weren't quite as friendly as he was for the most part, but he noticed the less than enthusiastic reaction from most of the people gathered and quickly moved on, without giving them a chance to correct his naive views of the beauty and wonder of human compassion on Tatooine.

"Well... we'd best get gettin' on if we're gonna make it before tha scavengers," he said as he stood up, waving Petal after him, "Ya offered ta help with provisions, so less go pick up some water and food, enough fer three days fer all of us, prolly should do it. Jus' incase I misjudged tha distance. We'll meet by tha gate in an 'our, kay?"

He headed off without waiting for an answer, assuming Petal would follow.

-----

The small party met up by the gate in roughly an hour's time as planned, Davis handing out water canteens and packages of rations to everyone before they set off into the desert on foot--thanks largely to the fact that none of them could afford to rent rontos or speeders for the trip.

The trip itself passed in surprising quiet, without a single attack by sand people or any other strange violent animals. However, as they crested a sand dune the triple moons of Tantooine illuminated the ship and the immediate area. The silhouette of humanoid figures in long robes could be seen going in and out of the ship, carrying things out and loading them onto banthas.

"Sand people..." Davis hissed in equal parts hatred, sorrow, and anger as he dropped to the ground on his stomach, signaling his allies to do the same. He could only hope they hadn't seen them yet.

There appeared to be between 10 and 20 of them slowly tearing apart the interior of the ship.

"This doesn't look promising," Nicholai said, keeping his voice down. "But its not hopeless yet, there still may be a chance, no matter how slim, that at least some of them survived, or that we may not be too late."

Nicholai then raised his head slightly to count the amount of sand people who had found the ship as he continued, "we may be able to chase the little freaks off and check inside depending on their numbers. One of us should scout ahead further to get a good bearing on what we're up against. Unless we have any volunteers, I'll go."

Douglas scoffed with a gruff expression, as he tried to keep keep his balance in the shifting sand.

"You would have to be stupid and naive to scout alone. Sandpeople are dangerous because they are basically exiles who have no choice but to adapt to the wild desert and loot their victims for supplies which may include weapons. In fact, due to frequent histories of them disappearing nearly as soon as they appear into the sand, we can assume that they adapted excellently. I suggest you bring someone with you."

The veteran roughly stroked his heavy weapon, obessively cleaning it of sand.
"I'll have my blaster ready to shoot and disarm those that immediately threatens you if the situation calls for it. I'm a good shot. I'm too heavy to move with any deal of stealth or balance if I rushed in the sand anyhow."

"Be cautious, I do not think we would want to fight all of them at the same time." Vira cautions Douglas and Nicholai with the basic sense that a whole lot of people can easily overwhelm even the most skilled warrior. "I suggest we find a way to split them into more managable groups... A distraction, perhaps?"

"I don't see why we're discussing this." Petal stated flatly, "Those who desire to rot in this sand blasted hell, I consider you idiots." Her eyes flicked to Koto: idiot. Closing her eyes for a moment, she took a sip of her drink. "I recommend leaving as swiftly as possible," Petal continued calmly, "lest the planet welcome the ship itself."

"Do you know how to test a starship engine and repair it if necessary?" Koto replied with a touch of malicious glee. "No, I didn't think so." She took a contented sip of her own chilled drink.

"I am for doing this, but I warn you all that it is unlikely a crew would survive the ship crashing in such a hostile enviroment for the time it would take us to arrive." Vira said, the blind woman's first contribution to the conversation.

"Ah, but wouldn't you just feel terrible if they did survive but died anyway because no-one bothered to look?" Koto asked rhetorically.

* * *

Unfounrtately Sand People had beaten them there.

Douglas disparaged scouting alone and standing in his segmented armour, hefting his heavy weapon, offered his help.

"Exiles? They're the natives, lunkhead." Koto whispered back at Douglas, from her position flat on her belly. "And get down!"

"The alleged ship is right here and we need to do something immediately if there's any survivors." she said. "Even if there's not, the longer we wait, the higher the chance they wreck something important." She nodded at Nicholai. "Head off now, take whoever's sneakiest with you, probably the kid. You've got ten minutes while we work out a distraction."

Looking at the others she said. "Could we spook the banthas or something? What else might draw the Sand People out?"

The Zeltron known as Koto turned toward the group, after rightly berating the group's ex-soldier, Douglas. "Could we spook the banthas or something?" She asked, thinking quickly, "What else might draw the Sand People out?"

"Anything that isn't one of them." Petal stated softly, keeping low behind the ridge of sand, "They are a strange people, a warrior society I would imagine, but they kill outsiders on sight - so its only a theory. Or," she smiled at Vira, the group's second sword fighter, "at least, they try."

"Regardless," the sword dancer continued, "we're outnumbered at least two to one. While I'm fairly certain these aliens are no match for me in single combat, this many of them," she shook her head, "we need to set a trap, to even the odds."

Unfortunately, they'd still need to kill a lot of them in the first attack.

Her gaze slid to Koto, "Much as I loathe to admit it, the idea of using the banthas against them as merit, in theory." She frowned, "The only problem is how to go about it - shoot them and hope they are driven to panic?"

"If we attack in the chaos that follows, or use it to draw them to our position, perhaps..." Petal shook her head, "...that might only get us overwhelmed."

This planning session was not going well, thus far.

"What you call stupidity and naivity, I call courage," Nicholai responded to Douglas. "Plus, more people may add visibility, but I guess two would be alright, in any case, I'm going now."

"I'll have my blaster ready to shoot and disarm those that immediately threatens you if the situation calls for it. I'm a good shot. I'm too heavy to move with any deal of stealth or balance if I rushed in the sand anyhow." Douglas told him.

"Good to know soldier boy, don't forget me out there," he said as he crawled forward through the sand on his stomach, moving slowly and being careful not to majorly obstruct the sand in any way. Once he made it halfway between the group and the Sand people, Nicholai decided he shouldn't push his luck anymore, and rose his head slightly to get a good luck at what they were up against, and to see what the situation for the crew was, if he was lucky.

"Head off now, take whoever's sneakiest with you, probably the kid. You've got ten minutes while we work out a distraction."

Kharr winced slightly at being referred to as 'the kid', but didn't argue as the others continued to discuss strategy; this really wasn't the time for anything as petty as that, and he figured it was true, more or less. He'd just have to show them all that his age didn't mean he was any less competent than any of his allies. He didn't have anything to add to the conversation, anyway, as he knew little about these sand people and their capabilities, and what the others were saying wasn't very encouraging, either.

"What you call stupidity and naivity, I call courage," Nicholai told Douglas. "Plus, more people may add visibility, but I guess two would be alright, in any case, I'm going now."

"I'm coming with you. I'm small, we'll be fine," the Cathar hissed quietly through his teeth as Nicholai started moving forward. He only wished he was as confident as he sounded. Kharr unholstered a pistol before he silently followed, careful to keep his claws away from the trigger to prevent any accidental fire that would reveal their presence. He easily caught up with the man when he stopped partway between the two groups. Stopping beside him, he also began examining the area in front of them, keeping an eye out for anything interesting or that could be useful to know.

Krylo

As the cathar and human shimmy through the sand they come within roughly 20 paces of the sand people. The robed figures are luckily distracted, however, and the dark combined with the dunes in front of them keeps them from noticing they are being spied upon.

The two scouts, if they make an attempt, can now count a definite fifteen sand people outside the ship, hauling out various pieces. Neither of the two know enough about ship construction to identify any of the parts definitively, but they can tell that the sand people are certainly taking more than just loot from the inside.

They can also see two corpses near the entrance of the ship, a blaster rifle still in one's hand while the other is laying near a pistol. They both have holes on, and through, their torsos created by some kind of slug thrower weapon. Obviously members of the crew that survived the crash but were unable to defend the ship.

The sand people themselves are carrying extremely crude rifles, that appear to have been repaired multiple times with rope and tape, as well as their ritualistic weapons--their gaffi sticks. Most of them have the rifles slung over their shoulders currently, however, you both doubt it would take more than an instant for them to ready and fire them.

"If we attack in the chaos that follows, or use it to draw them to our position, perhaps..." Petal shook her head, "...that might only get us overwhelmed."

"A loud noise... Flash of light, something unfamiliar... All of these are classic distractions." Vira runs through a short list of things that draw attention, "Though I doubt any of us brought grenades, if we could use a weapon dischage to make the sand people believe some of the crew may have moved to a more advantageous position... I do not think they would all leave at once."

The Miraluka wipes the sand from her face in thought as she considers her last suggestion, "In any case we should not attack directly, they may use the ship to cover themselves and we would only risk damaging it further."

Bard The 5th LW

"This doesn't look good," Nicholai muttered quietly to the cathar as he observed the unfolding scene. Now they might never get out of this place! The two suns weren't that pleasant on the eyes. "We should had back to the others quickly," Nicholai informed Kharr as he turned around and crawled his way back to the group, still moving fairly slowly, to avoid being seen on the return trip.

When he got back, Nicholai spoke in a soft voice, but still loud enough to get their attention. "The situation is grim, at least two of the crew members are dead, both were armed, and they have a little less than three times our current numbers. To make matters worse, the sandpeople aren't just looting, they seem to be taking the ship apart!" he told them, trying to convey the urgency.

"If we don't think up a course of action very soon, then we will be out of luck."

Teal Mage

Hand resting on her chin in a gestured associated with thought, Petal nodded at Vira's observations.

"Then it appears we have a two courses of action available to us." She reasoned aloud, in a whisper, as much for her benefit as for the others. "We could attempt to lure away a handful of them and eliminate them quickly and above all, quietly. However, that still leaves us a great number of active enemies to deal with." Petal went on thoughtfully, drumming her fingers on the sandy hill, "If we do something to the banthas, we may sew enough chaos to proceed to engage the remaining enemies - without being gunned down before we reach them. But we would still be outnumbered and whatever supplies they carry on the banthas may be damaged - not to mention we would put the ship in danger."

This was otherwise known as plan A.

She shook her head, "I believe the safest course of action is to follow them, then attack while they sleep. If we are quiet enough, we will be able to eliminate most of them before they realize they are under attack." Petal let out a low laugh of condensation, "I find assassination a dissatisfying way to kill an enemy, but," she shrugged, "my pride will recover." A small, ironic smile appeared on her face, "Besides, we can always leave a few alive, then engage them in fair combat - if someone desires it."

A thought occurred to her then. Sand people do sleep, don't they? She dispelled the thought with a mental scoff, An irrelevant concern. We would still do better selecting the circumstance of battle ourselves.

((Based on knowledge Krylo told me in PM... Aaand battle report.))

Vira began to become disappointed with the lack of initiative in the group's scouting. Though she often carefully considered plans before enacting them, something told her they were overthinking this. Vira'd been a hunter, she'd seen them fight once or twice.

"Sand people fight in numbers to hide their lack of personal skill. Their rifles are bolt action, and they greatly prefer fighting with their gaffi sticks, of which they have little formal training... I sense some may still be inside... It's hard to parse the signatures but much fewer than we've already seen. In any case, we must act now. I will circle behind the ship and attempt to draw them into a confrontation at extremely close range. Those with blasters, shoot the ones with rifles."

Vira drew her vibroblade and began to agily skirt the dune to use the cover of the ship to close as far as possible without drawing line of sight. Hardly stealth, but the Miraluka swordswoman was far more concerned about being shot than detected. The sand rustles beneath her, shifting annoyingly as she attempted to run across it, alerting one of the sand people by the time she had reached the rear of the ship, but he did not yet see her. Vira lept from behind the ship, activating her vibroblade with a reverberating bumblebee hum as the Sand person nearest to her turned and raised his gaffi stick.

"UUGH UN UN UNFF!"

The sand person shook his stick above his head while calling out with a loud, echoing and incredibly annoying cry. Vira lept forward, exploiting his vulnerable underbelly with a deadly left-to-right lash from her shoulder, bisecting the man in a mist of scarlet ichor as she slid past. Spinning her blade into a defensive stance, humming through the air as it did so, she carried through her footwork toward a second, trying to stay too close for them to draw a bead with their rifles.

"Defend yourself!" Vira shouted.

"...In any case, we must act now. I will circle behind the ship and attempt to draw them into a confrontation at extremely close range. Those with blasters, shoot the ones with rifles." Vira stated, impatient to begin combat - with good reason. They had allies in the ship, apparently.

Petal curtly nodded - the hunter was quicker then her, but her plan had the best chance of success. She'd follow - with greater stealth.

Vira stood, taking off around the dune and making for the ship - viroblade in hand. Quickly, Petal moved into the Miraluka's wake, sword still sheathed - but a throwing knife at the ready. She'd strike with it first, before moving in with her sword.

Douglas stared at the dismantling from afar as Vira directed on the sandmen's grouping tendency. With the situation hardly likely to improve with the passage of time, the ex-soldier grunted once as he trudged along the sand to follow Vira. As she initiated the charge, his mind raced with any orders or suggestions before possibly falling back to his training or survival techniques.

Those with blasters, shoot the ones with rifles."

With that recent suggestion in mind, Douglas peered for sandmen closest in proximity from the one that Vira assaulted, repeating blaster at ready. Selecting the two closest he could find with rifles, he opted to shoot one of the rifles directly and to directly blast the other, as if to evaluate the effectiveness of the blast bolt on one while keeping the other occupied.

"This doesn't look good," Nicholai muttered quietly.

"Understatement," Kharr whispered as Nicholai continued: "We should head back to the others quickly." He started making his way back to the group before a response could be made, however. The cathar grunted to himself, making no motion to follow. He could hear what they were saying with his keen sense of hearing, in any case, and there was no need for both of them to report back. As still as a statue, he listened to the hushed voices, nervously fiddling with the pistol in his paw.

"...In any case, we must act now. I will circle behind the ship and attempt to draw them into a confrontation at extremely close range. Those with blasters, shoot the ones with rifles."

Unhappy with the situation, but certainly not disagreeing, he waited for the Miraluka to start things off. If he acted before she and the people he could hear following her got into range, any advantage of surprise would be ruined on their part, and the consequences would likely be dire. It was a suspenseful few moments as Kharr waited. The cry of a tusken raider, its subsequent death, and Vira's shout rang out, and he broke cover. Drawing his second pistol in the same motion he stood up, he quickly aimed at a pair of rifle-carrying sand people in a group of five a short distance away from his allies. It hadn't even been a second before the triggers were squeezed and two bolts of red plasma shot forth at his targets.

"Better act now." Koto agreed with Vira. "Ever seen a ship's reactor go up?" the Zeltron asked. Technically she hadn't either. "It's not pretty, except in an abstract way." Unless vids counted.

"I don't really know anything about Sand People," Koto began, "so if you say that's true, let's get rid of 'em."

As the sword inclined moved off, Koto stayed flat on her belly, working her way up just over the crest of the dune like a snake to get a better firing position.

"UUGH UN UN UNFF!"

The fighting had already begun, and one native was down already.

Pistol firmed gripped in both hands in front of her as she sprawled on the ground, Koto sighted in and snapped off a shot on the closest rifle armed Sand Person she could see.

They were already moving in to attack? That was surprising to Nicholai, but not necessarily a bad surprise. It was good that they had initiative. In truth, Nicholai was kind of embarrassed that he didn't do it first. He was losing his edge.

"I think I like this girl," Nicholai said amusedly while he moved out, not too shortly after Vira's initial run towards the raiders. He intended to make up for his lack of impulsiveness in this situation, this girl wasn't going to outshine him.

Once Vira made it close enough to kill a sand person, Nicholai stopped (5 paces from PF) and smiled, 'so they are pushovers individually.' Now they just had to cut them down to the individual and it would be a piece of cake.

Nicholai then drew his throwing knife, deciding to stay away from the melee users, and hurled it at one of the sand people he saw in range. Once it hit, he would move in with his normal dagger, if he didn't die that is, but he had no time to worry about such things.

As Vira attacked the sand people mobilized, most of them drawing out their gaffi sticks, though a few furthest away from her readied their rifles. Unfortunately, the rest of the small crew of impromptu salvagers acted quickly on the miraluka woman's initiative, and, with a whirr Douglas's repeating blaster wound up firing off two blaster bolts toward the rifle armed raiders. One bolt caught a raider in the head, downing him quickly (sand person 11) while the other blasted harmlessly into the desert sands.

Nicholai and Petal both let fly with a pair of throwing knives, Petal's burying itself in the throat of a nearby sand person (number 3), as he held his gaffi stick over his head screaming in the traditional sand person battle cry. It was cut short, however, as he fell to the ground clutching his wound.

Nicholai's blade in the mean time found its way into the gut of another of the sand people, causing the cloaked figured to stumble and fall to the ground as its life drained out of it.

The sand people were beginning to mobilize toward the group gathered by the ship now, but before they could think to do anything, three blaster bolts, followed by a laser zipped in from their side, killing one of them (kharr, sand person 6) and injuring two more (Koto and Davis, sand person's 12/13).

Five of their number lay dead, seemingly before they could properly react, but now the survivors returned fire.

The two remaining sand people near the ship charged forward with a scream toward Vira and Petal, respectively, while those at mid range split up with two charging toward the group at the ship and two more returning fire toward the dunes, one zipping past Kharr's head harmlessly, while the other buried itself in Davis's arm (-9 hp)

The last group, those furthest away also split their attention, though they all retained their rifles, two of them firing toward the man with the repeating blaster, though one of their bullets ricocheted off of his armor harmlessly, but the other buried itself in his upper leg painfully (1 and 6 damage).

The other two took aim at the seemingly blind woman with the vibroblade, however, noting that she was the first of their aggressors, and they believed this made her the most dangerous. However, they found it hard to keep track of her weaving movements, and one missed completely, while the other merely grazed her shoulder barely drawing blood (1 damage).

*Vrrrrrrrrrrrrrm!*

Vira's vibroblade whizzed angrily through the air around her as she duck and wove past her assailant's gaffi stick, tucking into a diving roll as the weapon whipped over her head. Blaster fire and projectile weapon cracks opened up all around her, and the young janissary's blood flowed with firey vigor. Training kept her calm, allowing her to see the battlefield without tunnel vision.

Two bullets whizzed by her, one cutting into the ablative patch of her jacket, possibly injuring her. She didn't feel the pain yet, but didn't allow it to slow her motions. Uncurling from the roll, she stood up behind the sand person closest to her, whirling around to strike at his neck with her vibroblade.

*VRM*

"Keep firing on riflemen!" Vira shouted over the chaos and her blade's angry whirr as she dashed towards the starship's boarding ramp, not even waiting to see if her opponent had fallen. "Petal! Let's move toward the ship to avoid their fire and take reinforcements by suprise!"

As he watched his emitted blaster fire impact, Douglas' expression was fraught with the slightest of mixed emotions. Deep down, the veteran berated himself for missing one of the targets, although the statisfaction of seeing his other target instantly put down was reassuring.

"Keep firing on riflemen!"

Douglas would have followed the direction even if it wasn't declared, but ingrained reaction to following orders infused him with the sort of mindset for battle, as he propped himself on his good leg, the pain in the other irritating him to no end as he shot back in retaliation, both times for the kill.

"Ah Ha!" Nicholai cheered as the sandman fell. "There's nothing to it," he called to the others who hadn't joined them up front. "Just keep on firing, we'll be off the this rock in no time!" He called, hoping to rally them and keep them firing.

Nicholai then pulled out his dagger from his sheathe, being forced to resort to melee. He spun the blade in his hand expertly before making a beeline for the nearest sand person and jabbed the knife at them. Maybe this would keep them off Vira as she darted towards the ship.

"UUGH U-!" A throwing knife blossomed Sand Person 3's throat, cutting him off in mid-scream.

"Pathetic excuse for last words." Petal icily stated, snapping her head toward the sand person stupid enough to announce his attack with another warcry. She whipped her hand to the grip of her sword, stance shifting into a Duelist's as she drew the blade in a flash of moonlit silver.

"Petal! Let's move toward the ship to avoid their fire and take reinforcements by surprise!" Vira's order received only the slightest of nods - she was busy at the moment.

Gaffi Stick at the ready, her opponent entered her attack range - Petal's sword came up to meet him, the motion of the draw flowing into a vicious slash toward her assailant's midsection. Balanced to dodge any strike he made, Petal wondered if he'd be polite enough to die quickly.

She had a ship to clear.

Not bad for this range. Koto decided, her blaster pistol leaving a nasty burn on the target's arm. She knew she could hardly be called a crack shot. There was a pair of snaps as the Sand People shot back up at the dunes.

Not yet under fire, Koto decided to crawl further forward in case someone did decide to look for her previous position. Keeping the Sand Person she'd previously hit in sight, she lined up a second shot and squeezed the trigger. He wasn't showing any signs of wanting to get out of there, so she'd better finish him off.

Got one! The red bolt had been perfectly aimed, downing its target on contact with it. The same couldn't have been said for his second pistol's shot, which had missed completely. Regardless, Kharr was still satisified with the first shot and had begun picking which of the moving Sand People to fire upon when he noticed one particular one. Indistinguishable from the others, this one was only special in that it was preparing to fire upon him. Ears flattening, he had only begun trying to dodge when the shot went off.

He could feel the vibrations in the air over his head, producing a hissing sound as the projectile flew past; it looked like the tusken raider had decided his target for him. Kharr slammed the pistol in his left paw into its holster while quickly taking a few steps forward. Accuracy was essential at the moment, the cathar felt, using both paws to hold onto the other blaster as he aimed. A moment and a squeeze of the trigger later, another bolt shot forth from the weapon.

Nicholai rushed to Vira's rescue, however he was a bit too late, arriving just in time to see the sand person's head gracefully pirouette through the air, as its body fell to the ground, lifeless--the desert sand turning into a bloody mud. He turned, perhaps, thinking to assist Petal, but found that she, too, was a more than capable fighter, her blade cascading through her opponent's torso, dropping its entrails heavily onto the sand.

Meanwhile Douglass's repeating blaster continued to whirr and fire, its bolts finding the torsos of two more sand people, striking them to the ground with brutal efficiency, of course, his blaster wasn't the only that found its mark as the sand person whom had made the mistake of missing Kharr fell dead, a blaster burn directly in the center of his forehead as he attempted to reload his rifle.

Meanwhile from the dune Koto fired her blaster, shooting wide, and missing the sand person she had believed was in her sights. Davis, however, had better luck as he stood at the top of the dune, holding his mining laser at his hip and letting off another beam of incandescent light that lanced directly through the torso of another sand person.

For a moment the sand people stop seeming to contemplate their losses, when a scream of "UNNGH UGHA UNGGH RRAAGH" echoes from the ship, followed by three more sand people charging out toward Vira, followed by another two whom poke out of the entrance of the ramp with their rifles, each firing at Davis. The first barely grazes his leg (2 damage), but the second bullet lodges itself in Davis's stomach, causing him to fall to one knee (17 damage).

Meanwhile the sand person Koto fired upon struggles to walk forward while reloading his rifle, and the last two remaining sand people toss their rifles aside, one charging Nicholai, while the other dashes toward Petal.

Vira's plan worked swimmingly, perhaps too swimmingly, as she quickly found herself locked in melee with virtually every sand person still on the ship. The outlines of the sand people blurred over one another in her vision, with trails of light running from herself to their weapons. Vira didn't understand that normal humans did not see the way she did, and simply felt this form of battle trance was normal.

The first swung low as the second swung high, and she instinctively raised her blade to guard her head while hopping over the leader's leg-sweep. Vibroblade and gaffi stick collided with a reverberating cla-clak-claaang, sending sparks every which way as Vira barely managed to regain her balance to react to the third opponent. Her weapon off-balance, and his held high above his head in a Tusken raider's signature killing blow, she lashed out with her free arm, striking his face without any power to harm, but just enough to throw him off balance.

Vira spun two-hundred and seventy degrees to gain momentum for her counterstrike-

"I guess I just don't get to be a hero today huh," Nicholai said to Petal smirking. At least the others were capable. Nicholai was about to move to get the blaster from a nearby corpse, but he then heard the cry of "UNG UNNG UGAH!" coming from behind him.

"Sorry I can't be of more help right now, I seem to have a more pressing engagement." he told Petal as he shifted his attention towards the incoming sand person,

This would be easy, it was just a single sand person, and earlier evidence had proven that they were of little threat, "You know, you guys would be a lot more tolerable if you actually had a language!" Nicholai yelled at as it charged for him. "Anything would suffice really, it would definitely be more efficient than yelling," he told it as he took a stab towards its gut. Maybe, if reincarnation was true, it would become something more capable of communication. Like a womp rat.

Her silver sword swept cleanly through Sand Person Five's flimsy desert colored robes, eviscerating the man where he stood. With a weak groan, the mace wielding desert warrior stumbled past her to collapse bonelessly on the sandy ground, whimpering weakly.

Chest wounds were the worst.

"I guess I just don't get to be a hero today, huh?" Nicholai observed with a smirk, seemingly pleased with himself.

"I guess you won't shut up either." Petal replied, pivoting toward another of the gaffi stick wielding sand people, attacking in an eerily similar manner to the last one. Apparently, some things didn't learn.

"Sorry I can't be of more help right now," Nicholai quipped, apparently not caring what Petal thought, "I seem to have a more pressing engagement." He turned his attention to the Sand Person attacking him.

"Don't come back!"

Number Ten was on her instants later, gaffi stick posed and ready to lash out at the ex-librarian. The moons of Tatooine turned Petal's sword into a flashing streak of silver as she darted forward a step, loosing another vicious slash in passing at the Sand Person's side. Quickly, without pausing to see the results of her strike, the dark haired swordfighter smoothly turned her momentum into a swift pivot - like a dance step.

Sword leaving a trail of moonlight in her wake, Petal lept away from her assailant - moving closer to the four enemies near Vira in the process.

The group was successful in eliminating individuals, but Douglas raised his hefty weapon aggressively, shifting his aim from the targets in the distances to the alarming trio of sandman that all rushed toward Vira. Upon the introduction of the hole in its head, the tusken raider ceased reloading and collapsed upon the sand with a muffled sound upon impact. From the other sounds that the cathar could hear, it was far from the only one meeting such a fate. He was somewhat surprised how quickly their numbers were diminishing, actually. Perhaps it was a matter of the two sides' different degrees of organization. The ambush definately hadn't hurt, either.

He glanced towards the opening of the ship where Vera and company sliced their way through the rushing sand people. They were doing well enough, Kharr decided, slowly walking forward, on the lookout for more potential threats. Another glance across the battlefield revealed a sand person busy reloading his rifle. From the way it was moving, the bounty hunter assumed it had already been hit once. It looked like another hit would be necessary.

This should be an easy shot. Without hesitation, Kharr fired once more.

"Bantha bollocks." Koto grumbled, her second shot going wide. More Sand People were firing up the hill but more than half were downed.

Determined to get her target down before he could stop messing around with reloading his rifle and actually shoot her, she lined up her third shot of the day and fired.

Petal's strike burst through the sand person's robes and flesh, striking out a trail of blood (8 damage), but it still stood as she spun away from it, and charged in swinging out with the hook of its gaffi stick tearing it through her clothes and across her stomach, repaying the wound with a loud scream of "UNNGHA" and splattering more blood onto the desert sands (10 damage).

Meanwhile Vira charged past the sand people intent upon attacking her, to cut down one of the two snipers with a skillful blow. However, her attack left her open as the other sniper quickly tossed aside its rifle and unhooked its gaffi stick in a smooth motion leading, easily, into a swing. The miraluka woman was barely able to get her vibroblade between herself and the attack, the clumsy parry causing a dull throb to shoot down her arm (1 damage).

Fortunately for Vira, however, the three which had originally attacked her became emboldened by Petal's blood, and charged toward her, only for two to fall to Douglas's blaster bolts. The third, however, reached the girl with ease, swinging the hook of his gaffi stick toward her. She was quicker, this time, however, having already learned her lesson, and was able to raise her sword to block it expertly, however with her injuries the shock of the blow still caused more strain on her system than it should have (1 damage).

Meanwhile, Davis, Koto, and Kharr all opened fire upon the poor sand person whom had been attempting to reload his rifle, Kharr's blast hitting, and killing it, just before Koto and Davis wasted their own shots upon it.

Only three sand people were left alive now, and the battle seemed all but won save for a few injuries. That is until the ship echoed with the sound of one last sand person screaming in fury, its cloaked body charging down the ramp as it swung its Gaffi Stick in an underhanded upward arc toward Vira. The Miraluka attempted to block, but this sand person seemed far stronger than the others, and she was unable to set her vibroblade to meet the blow properly. The gaffi stick merely pushed aside her feeble defense as though it were not there and smashed up into her stomach and chest, hurling her back down the ramp.

Holding its stick above its head it let out another primal scream before continuing to advance.

In short, things were going very well. Almost all of the sand people had been defeated, and although Vira's valiant charge left her somewhat overextended, her allies quickly picked up the slack. In moments, she would be in the clea-

She didn't sense him, not at first, anyway. The sand person's leader, obviously dressed as the tribal champion caught her off-guard, shattering her complex multiple-angle defense and sending her reeling down the ramp, clutching her chest with her free hand. She cursed inwardly, almost exhaling the words but instead coughing only blood on the ramp. Heh, had she had a lightsaber, that would never had happened.

Vira wasn't about to let that stop her. Excuses for the mundanity of her weapon were moot, and she'd be damned if she was going to let a mere Tusken Raider, champion or not, kill her. There was no time to think, only to act, and anger seeped through her calm trance.

"RRGH! Not finished yet!" She grunted back, rising to her feet and trailing the vibroblade behind her, using her momentum and adreneline-fueled fury to carry the blade up in a diagonal rising cut from the left leg to the right shoulder.

Douglas glared at the champion, as he pointed his repeating blaster upward the narrow ramp, and fired with selective accuracy. A grunt of pain escaped Petal's lips as the desert warrior's gaffi stick sliced through her cloak and the padding beneath it. She didn't have time to dwell on the pain though; she saw another of the Tusken Raiders coming at her from the corner of her eye. Her elbow lashed out, catching her first assailant in the chest - it had just enough force behind it to make him stumble back.

The second attacker swung his gaffi stick, only to meet her sword in a clash of metal on metal and brief burst of sparks. A shock went through her arm as her opponent lost his balance from her parry - but she mercilessly pushed it down.

It was time to dance.

Her blade was a blur of silver as she brought it back, recovering from her parry with a speed that shouldn't have been possible with her injury. Both sandmen had recovered as well, each watching her warily now - on guard, for what its worth.

Not much.

Flowing like quicksilver, Petal spun, droplets of her blood flinging out in a circle. Lines of silver flashed over the sand person who'd managed to hit her as Petal's sword lashed out with a myriad of light cuts. Her spin continued without pause, and suddenly she was facing her second attacker - in time to parry away a half-swung gaffi stick.

Twisting her wrist, her sword's tip flashed toward the sand's neck.

Three different shots all hit the rather unfortunate tusken raider in the span of several moments. It didn't even have the chance to hit the ground as each one riddled its body. Dead, Kharr absently noted. Really dead. 'Dead' would've good enough, he thought. So much for their side's organization; at least the battle looked like it was close to over. It was then that a series of shouts, a mixture of the gruff screams of the sand people and the familiar voices of those he knew near the ship.

"RRGH! Not finished yet!"

"Get going! You already done far enough. You are of little use to us injured."

Vira, who seemed to have suffered multiple injuries, was launching herself at what the cathar assumed was the leader of the sand people while Douglas admonished her decision to keep fighting. Kharr immediately pointed his clasped blaster at the brute, only to hesistate at firing at the group of bodies that included his allies. He quickly shifted position, moving closer and to a more advantageous angle. It wasn't ideal, but it would have to do. He wanted the Miraluka's assailant taken down as soon as possible, given her condition.

The larger sand person roared with with the delight of the kill as Vira fell backwards on the ramp, but, as he advanced on her, ready to deliver the final blow, he found that his prey was not so easily subdued as her sword flashed out at him. He stumbled backwards, out of the way, but the blade still found its mark, leaving a deep gash across the his body from his hip to his opposite shoulder (13 damage). He hefted his gaffi stick in rage, prepared to strike her down with it, when blaster bolt burnt into his ribs painfully (15 damage), and another struck his hand. He barely kept hold of his weapon under the onslaught, his eyes turning toward Douglas before he began to flee toward the interior of the ship, another blaster bolt from Kharr burning the flesh of his shoulder (1 damage) as he turned a corner into the steel corridors of the the Rho-Class shuttle, seeking asylum from the ranged attacks being rained down upon him.

The other sand person on the ramp scooped up his gun as he followed the other.

Petal seemingly had her hands full with another pair of sand people, but her sword flashed out with unerring accuracy cutting one to ribbons, and slicing deeply into the other's throat, leaving his head to lull backwards barely connected to his torso by a few pieces of skin, before the body fell.

Meanwhile Davis shook his head at Koto as he dropped his mining laser into the sand, unstrapped his mining pick, and began down the sand dunes toward the ship, one hand pressed firmly against the bullet hole in his stomach. "I'm fine," he grimaced through clenched teeth as he tried to make his way forward. "Just be ready to make sure everyone else is in one piece when this is over." "Come on then. Douglas m'dear, how familiar are you with boarding actions?"

Douglas responded promptly, but evidently a bit taken back with the sort of affectionate endearment directed his way during the heat of combat, especially from someone as agressive as Vira was scantily moments ago.

"The ship has been pretty much dismantled, so we can't neglect that certain vents and openings used for machinery would be used to hide or ambush, and the ship might have spare weapons for them to use. I'll go in front. Due to your injuries, I suggest you either stand down... or that you climb the ship just above there."

He pointed at the brim of the ship just above the ramp with this recent suggestion.

"If they try to use the ship passages or hiding spots to evade me and escape down the ramp, you can surprise them from above. Might also be a good idea for one of us with blasters to accompany you there."

With that, Douglas slowly entered the ship, keeping an eye out almost with a sort of paranoia.

"I'm fine," Davis claimed, dropping his mining laser to the ground and making his way unsteadily down the done, pick in one hand and the other pressed to the bullet wound in his stomach. "Just be ready to make sure everyone else is in one piece when this is over."

"Fine huh?" Koto asked, storming after him and closing the distance to nearly nothing. She looked as if she would dearly love to check him with a body slam so she could then strip him for reasons that were entirely appropriate. "Then stop giving your precious bodily fluids to the sand. It's a desert; no matter how generous you are, nothing's going to come of it."

Koto reached out with a slim red arm and grabbed the miner's shoulder. "So you and I are going to spend a little time together."

Blood spurted, bodies fell, and Petal was suddenly standing alone.

A cursory glance of the battlefield showed they had dispatched the remaining Sand People, at least, all that remained of this group. The battle hadn't been quiet precisely, it was possible more enemies would arrive soon - they needed to be out of the area as quickly as possible. She sheathed her sword.

"Come on then. Douglas m'dear, how familiar are you with boarding actions?" Vira asked, gesturing the man onwards and into the ship.

Douglas offered observations that changed little, in an effort to dissuade a significantly injured Vira to remain outside. A misguided effort that was met playfully by Vira, who proceeded into the ship - with Douglas out front as a meat shield.

"Wait up for me!" Nicholai called, scurrying over to the boarders. Petal considered tripping him as he past - but decided that would be a waste of effort on her part, no matter how curious she was to see if he'd try to talk through a mouthful of sand. "You should just stay back for now." Nicholai said, speaking to Vira. Petal's eye twitched - hadn't he just heard Douglas's attempt? "You've done more than you're part - you're injuries show it."

Petal wished she'd tripped him.

The swordswoman shrugged - then winced as the motion jostled her stomach wound. An effective reminder why she'd elected to remain outside the ship. Grimacing, she drew her remaining throwing knife and set to work slicing a strip of her robe off, to use as a bandage. Strictly speaking, it wasn't necessary - she wasn't even bleeding that much - but she felt it important to at least cover the wound, before making herself as useful as possible, given the damage she'd suffered.

Her gaze slid momentarily to the pack elephants some distance off.

Someone had to collect them.

A bandage wrapped about her torso, Petal finally set off toward the bantha, while Davis, after some 'forceful negotiation' submitted to receive the same treatment from Koto. He had to admit he probably needed the help anyway, though he still felt poorly about leaving the others to their fate with the last of the sand people. He accepted his treatment, though, pulling off his shirt carefully, gasping a bit as he did so--the garment sticking to his wounds as the blood had already started to congeal just enough to make it uncomfortable.

Kharr, however, continued to move toward the ship, perhaps thinking that he may still be needed, even though the last two sand people were now outnumbered 3 to 1.

However, as Douglas rounded the corner into the ship there was a scream followed by the axe end of a gaffi stick smashing into his torso, the plasteel armor shattering under the impact and causing him to stagger back (11 damage). Meanwhile, the other sand person's Gaffi stick swung in hard at Nicholai, but he was quicker than his large companion, managing to dance, mostly, out of the way--though it still cut across his chest lightly (1 damage).

As the two regained their footing, and Vira prepared to counter attack, the sand people seemed to disappear, the only evidence of their location a bit of flapping robe turning down a nearby corridor.

Petal is 12 paces from the bantha.

((Turns out I killed him on this attack.))

Vira's expression was difficult to read with her lack of eyes, but if she had them, they would be filled with unsatisfied determination. She felt guiltly, leading the heavily armored Douglas in first to spring the ambush meant for her, but the Miraluka woman wasn't stupid. Nicholai and his larger companion were right, and she was badly hurt, but not one to shy away from a fight so nearly won. Not after leading the charge.

Moments after entering the ship, she felt it. "Yes, there he is..." The yell came out from the nearest hallway, and the champion reamed Douglas with a powerful strike of his gaffi stick. "There he is, and not as wounded as I thought..." She whispered under her breath, pushing past the reeling soldier and activating her vibroblade with a maniac grin after the flapping robe. "So much the better!"

She lashed out after him in a desperate swing, but the champion turned just after passing out of sight, barely catching her over-extended strike with the spear end of his gaffi-stick. The blade swung atop the staff uselessly as he lunged forward to counterstrike, and for a moment, their masked faces stared into each other's shrouded sockets.

"NNGH!" The champion cried.

"YOU CAN'T BLOCK FOREVER!" Vira shouted back, wrenching her locked sword down with renewed fury, interrupting his lunge as she slid the sparking blade up the length of the gaffi to bite into the champion's upper torso. The vibroblade whined as it bit through his armor and into his neck, severing his head and spraying blood as his body slumped agaisnt the corridor wall.

"Hhnh... Nhh." Vira gasped, "You... You... Fight well." shaking her head and trying to calm her wounded panic.

Douglas grunted heavily with frustration and pain as he pressed onward inside the ship, although seeing the lopped off head on the floor gave a sense of closure as he coped with his injury.

"Nicholai, I can't aim this heavy machinery around corners and it takes a lot of effort just to carry it. I'll cover you," Douglas' face was tinged with disgust that he turned out to be totally useless in places with lots of corners. "finish that guy so we can end this."

With that, Douglas made fast paced steps, nodding at Vira's recent accomplishment, and kept his eyes on the ship's halls for deceased champion's companion.

Nicholai got off lucky. In fact, he wasn't even aware he got hit when the Ghaffi stick grazed him. He was preoccupied with what had happened to Douglas, and Vira's sudden attack on the champion, defeating it. "I take back what I said earlier then," Nicholai told her as she slumped against the wall.

"Nicholai, I can't aim this heavy machinery around corners and it takes a lot of effort just to carry it. I'll cover you," Douglas said to him, "finish that guy so we can end this."

"Fine by me," Nicholai responded as he raised his gun, almost at point blank range from the final Sand Person. "And so the story ends," he said, squeezing the trigger. Now, he gets to be the hero.

Nicholai's blaster bolt pierces the heavens heart of the last sand person, the creature's body falling lifelessly into the puddle of blood left from Vira's slaughter.

A quick glance about the ship--though none of the people currently within it are mechanics by any stretch--can already tell that the sand people did quite a bit of damage to it. You can only hope that everything necessary for repairs are still on the bantha.

Battle over. Victory achieved.

I shall have to buff future enemies, however. You burned through them all much more quickly than I had expected. Such things are to be expected, though, considering this is the system's first run.

"They seem to be dead," Nicholai said in passing as he kicked the corpse of the sand person he had shot, before tucking his pistol in his jacket pocket. "They're like sand-paper," he muttered, "and to think I was considering to waste time with tactics."

He then looked back to Vira and Douglas, both were injured, but Vira had it the worst. Although recent events (like, 5 seconds ago) had proven that Vira wasn't going to be slowed down much by injuries, Nicholai still though they should be checked.

"Douglas, can you go get someone outside the ship with some medical experience?" he inquired. Douglas still seemed capable of moving around, but he wasn't sure that he wanted to move Vira. There was also the fact that Petal was the one with medical experience closest by, and Nicholai didn't have anything prepared yet to say to her, and he wanted to be ready by the time of their next confrontation.

"I'm going to look to see if the rest of the crew survived the attack," he said not waiting for Douglas's answer on his condition, and started moving forward through the ship at a slow pace.

Vira leaned agaisnt the corridor, deactivating her vibroblade and taking several deep breaths. Nicholai'd started to search the ship, which was logical enough. The young woman wanted to help, but she knew her injuries were quite severe and that there was no longer a compelling reason to ignore them. Groaning in frustration, she rubbed her forehead with her free hand.

"Douglas..." She began, "Go outside and get Koto, and everyone else who's injured and bring them inside. Have the rest search the area for anything that looks like it's part of the ship, and to gather up the Tuskens' gaffi sticks. I recall Czerka has a bounty on them, and we'll be needing all the credits we can get to fix the thing."

The overlapping suggestions overlapped each other easily, as Douglas grunted and paced outside, still grasping his heavy weapon and obsessively pressing on his wounds as if the attention soothed him. After he walked down the ramp, he lazily looked around to find Kota, and then shouted in her general direction.

"Kota! Bring the wounded over to the ship! If you need help, I'll give a hand."

Douglas then went to find the others and pass on his orders, gathering the gaffi sticks and rifles along the way, his destination to be toward the banthas so as to gather the pieces that were stripped from the ship as well as use them for mounts back to town when the time came. In the mean time, they would make good beasts of burdens to carry the stuff he was collecting.

With the four banthas of the fallen Sand People trailing obediently behind her, Petal slowly strode back in the direction of the crashed ship. It had not been difficult to take control of the beasts - they were naturally docile creatures after all. And having little relevant knowledge about ship parts, Petal hadn't spent long examining what the Tusken Raiders had loaded on the massive creatures. But a cursory inspection revealed that much of their load consisted of bulkheads.

This was, somehow, disappointing.

Putting this inexplicable thought from her mind, Petal decided to inspect the still warm bodies of the Tusken Raiders as she went. Partly to ensure none would survive their wounds, and partly to collect whatever useful materials she could from them.

As it turned out, this consisted of rifles and gaffi sticks.

Petal briefly considered stripping the bodies as well; if properly washed, the robes could prove useful. However, she quickly dismissed the thought; it wouldn't be an efficient use of her time. Perhaps she could make Nicholai do it while they repaired the ship.

Seeing naked Sand People might shut him up. She reflected, a fond smile appearing on her lips - silence was wonderful.

Douglas walked back to the ship with Petal and the banthas in tow, taking care not to get sand in his wounds. As he walked back inside, he distastefully dragged the corpses of the sandman champion and his protege, removed their equipment and tossed their fleshy carcasses out of the ship without any ceremony or care. Walking back to Vira and Nicholai, he made his report.

"We got about 19 gaffi sticks and rifles. 2 of the ship's components were found, which I left on the Banthas with Petal. I could use a breather."

He resigned himself to sit on the hallway floor, leaning his back against the wall waiting for medical attention.

According to Krylo...

19 Gaffi Sticks: Staff weapon with 3 ATP in melee, can be sold for 10 credits to czerka bounty officer

19 Tusken Cyclers: slug thrower rifle weapon with 8 atp and +3 ACC and a range of 10-150 paces, instead of 4-80. Must be reloaded between uses requiring one standard action.

Also, is the champion's equipment any different from his followers?

"I could use a breather."

"Thanks Douglas you... You do that." Vira coughed, looking around herself for anything that looked like a ship's med bay. It didn't take long to find, being within sight. How the medbay was in sight however, was another story entirely.

"Am I seeing this right? Is that bulkhead gone?" She gaped, rhetorically asking nobody in particular as the young woman slowly shuffled towards the medlab, through the large hole in the adjoining bulkhead. She wiped a oozing puddle of blood from her tunic that had unsightly stuck to her arm, and grumbled. What were they intending to do with bulkheads, anyway? Build a gaffi stick shopping mall?

"Bloody sand people... Wait, is this my blood? Oh... Hey, it is!" Vira giggled in a sing-song voice, clearly suffering from blood-loss induced delerium. She flopped down on the nearest medlab table and stared up at the ceiling.

"Oooh... Spinny..."

Nicholai walked back to the entrance of the ship were Vira was and where Douglas had returned. Although this time, he lacked the enthusiasm he had when he had went off to search for the crew.

"We got about 19 gaffi sticks and rifles. 2 of the ship's components were found, which I left on the Banthas with Petal. I could use a breather." Douglas told him.

"Well then you better rest up while you can," he told him in a rather depressing tone. "I just got back from searching, the crew is dead, or at least 5 of them are," he informed the others in the room with him. "I don't think that any of us have any piloting experience, so unless we can go find a pilot who will fly this thing out of here in town, or there is one survivor that I missed, then this whole thing may have been almost pointless."

Nicholai sighed, "I do bring some good news though, hence the almost, these people had a very large armory, so it's a good thing we have those Banthas," he said, motioning towards the pack animals. "They had 3 pistols, 4 rifles, 4 frag grenades, 2 stun grenades, 3 pairs of Light Armor, 3 pairs of medium, and 2 pairs of heavy armor, 2 Vibroblades, a force axe, and force pike, 145 credits, and this little trinket, a magnetic thermal detonator," he said and lifted it in his hand to show them. "Anyways," he continued as he placed the pistols and the grenades on th ground in front of him,"I'm going to go get the rest of the loot, if anyone cares to help then they can go ahead and come with me," he finished, his tone slightly less morbid than it was at the start as he walked away, back to collect the rest of the loot.

Leaving the four Banthas with strict instructions to wait in the damned kitchen outside the ship, Petal followed after Douglas.

...who promptly collapsed to the floor. Petal's eyes flickered from the fragments of armor slightly further in, to the wound on the man's chest. She quickly put two and together - before sighing. Mutely shaking her head, she reached up to remove the cord binding her black hair. Freed, it fell in shimmering strands past her shoulder blades again.

Vira's cough drew her attention.

Petal flinched, involuntarily falling back a step, "Red." She murmured, stunned at the shear amount of blood on the Miralukan Huntress - her clothes had been totally black when this started. Petal shook her head, impressed at the woman's abilities.

"Bloody sand people... Wait, is this my blood? Oh... Hey, it is!"

With a start, Petal realized that not all of the blood on Vira belonged to sand people. This was bad.

Quickly, Petal strode into the med bay. The Banthas hadn't had any medical supplies on them, so that made it very likely that they were still on the ship. Convenient that Vira collapsed here. Petal reflected, sparing the swordfighter a glance.

"...don't think that any of us have any piloting experience," Nicholai's voice floated into Petal's awareness as she searched, "so unless we can go find a pilot who will fly this thing out of here in town, or there is one survivor that I missed, then this whole thing may have been almost pointless."

"I believe I heard Davis muttering about having some piloting experience while he was gathering supplies." Petal supplied, withdrawing two electroprods from the drawer she was currently investigating. She frowned, before glancing around the med bay - the beds had a suspicious number of restraints.

Putting that, and whatever else Nicholai was saying, from her mind, she continued to search. There must be more then bandages and disinfectant here, right?

...or not. Petal shut the last storage cabinet with a disappointed sigh, holding a few rolls of bandages and some disinfectant in her hand. She regarded Vira and Douglas critically.

"This will take a while." Petal muttered - Koto was better at this then she was. But, that red skinned Hedonist's time would be better spent repairing the ship itself. "And," she turned toward the sink, "I'll need water."

She ignored the blood stain around the drain.

Davis submitted to Koto's ministrations, with some reluctance. De-shirted, he waited as Koto cleaned the wound, sprayed it and then wrapped a bandage around his waist. "Keep it clean and try not to get any more bullets in it." she advised heartily, slapping a hand on his bare shoulder companionably. "Leg wound's just a graze and we're busy, so you'll have to take your pants off later. Try to avoid straining yourself, or it might start bleeding again."

"Kota!" Douglas had emerged from the bowels of the ship and, after a lazy scan of his surroundings, shouted in her general direction. "Bring the wounded over to the ship! If you need help, I'll give a hand." And then the ex-soldier meandered off in the direction of the banthas, poking at the fallen Sand People to gather up their rifles and gaffi sticks as he went.

"Don't offer to help and then just leave!" Koto shouted after the amroured brute. Turning aside, she caught Davis' eye. "Where on Tatooine did you find such a special person?" she asked slyly.

A quick sweep of the outside revealed no-one had fallen and been forgotten so Koto moved inside. What she found in there was far more urgent.

"You!" Koto thundered at Douglas, the hapless solider thrice transfixed by her accusing finger and blazing eyes. She stood in front of the seated soldier, towering over him. "Did it never strike your mind to mention there was several badly injured people already here?" she asked him rhetorically, flushed with anger. For Koto, that was very red indeed. "I'm the doctor, you're the grunt." She helpfully pointed at who was who with an unecessarily violent stabbing motion. "My time is much better spent here than poking around in this blasted desert looking for stragglers, understand?"

Her eyes narrowed further, inasmuch as such a thing was possible, as she took in his injuries. "You'll live for now." Koto pronounced. "Don't move." she ordered. "Don't talk either!" she added sharply, before Douglas could so much as form a syllable. "If you can manage to do it by yourself, get that broken chestplate off." Clearly, she doubted this was so.

She slipped past him into the medbay proper, finding Petal and Vira both there and both wounded. Despite her injuries, Petal was the nurse to Vira's patient. Ignoring the suspicious suggestions of the room's fittings for the moment, she insinuated herself next to Petal, eyeing Vira critically. "How'd it go?" she asked them both, mainly to keep Vira focused.

"How'd it go?" Koto asked, hovering critically over the table Vira laid upon. Overhearing the previous conversation, she attempted to stifle a laugh as she pondered if Koto's skin was not simply red for looks.

"Well, it appears I bested them whilist unconcious." Vira grinned, "Apparrently, I am that awesome." trying to stay focused herself while the pair of 'doctors' attempted to stabilize her. Looking down towards her feet, the 'table' she laid upon seemed to have a needlessly large number of restraints. If Vira didn't know better, she'd say it was a torture chamber rather than a medical bay.

"Say... You're not into that, are you?" She added, aimed at Koto, while poking one of the wrist binders with her hand.

Davis had followed Koto into the ship, mostly ignoring her orders about straining himself and what have you. He entered just about in time to hear Nicholai and Petal talking about who could pilot the ship.

"Eh, yeah, I can probably fly this bucket," he said, glancing about at the broken up walls, and the mess, "If one of us can get it space worthy. I might be a little rusty though, so you'll have to forgive me any bumps." He grinned a bit, though his skin was a bit pallid from blood loss.

Looking down at Douglas, Davis grimaced a bit. He hadn't seen the soldier take the hit, but he could see the damage done now. Kneeling down he started to unbuckle Douglas's armor. "'ere, lemme get that fer ya," he offered with obvious worry in his voice, as he worked to unbuckle the armor. "Then we should prolly getcha inta one o' these beds, eh?"

Nicholai took a breath as he placed down the suit of heavy armor that he lugged from across the ship and place with the other items at the area were everyone had congregated.

He had organized most of the items, putting all duplicates next to each other, leaving them to be picked out by the others in the group. "Eh, yeah, I can probably fly this bucket," Douglas told him. "Then all is not lost," Nicholai replied thankful that they may get off of Tantoonie.

"You guys just take what you want from what I've organized already," he said to the others, "we'll load the leftovers on the Banthas, or just take them with us on the ship and sell them else where." Nicholai himslef had taken the thermal detonator and 2 frags, deciding that Petal could put the stun grenades to better use, and that she might be less hostile if he left something behind for her.

"I'm going to go pick up the remaining items, mostly rifles and armor," he informed them as he moved off. He then turned around briefly and said, "oh yeah, we should probably check the ship to make sure that the sand people didn't take anything to important from it, and also we should give these guys a proper burial. We kind of owe it to them what with us taking their stuff and all." Nicholai wanted to show some respect to the people that they were grave-robbing.

With Koto's appearance, Petal felt a surge of relief, she had some textbook knowledge of the medical arts, but the Zeltron was far more experienced - at least, when it came to wrapping people like presents. The work went smoother with her help, not that Petal would ever admit it to the red skinned woman's face.

A few hours later, Petal suddenly found herself with nothing to do. Shrugging, she decided to investigate the horde of weapons and armor. Nicholai had long since finished sorting them and was off doing whatever Nicholais did.

Lowering herself carefully into a sitting position - and only wincing once as she jostled her wound - Petal carefully examined what remained of the ship's armoury and the weapons they'd collected from the raiders. As an afterthought, she added the pair of Electroprods she'd found in the Med Bay.

A brief scan of the ship's weapons and armor revealed little of interest. Petal already had a sword, so a Vibroblade - while interesting - wasn't worth taking. She'd little interest in the long range weapons and had no formal training with the other melee weapons, so she disregarded them as irrelevant. Petal did snatch up the four remaining grenades, she'd seen little to indicate anyone else would use them. Armor wise, the medium and heavy armor wasn't of interest to her, although, she elected to take one of the sets of Light Armor. Her's was serviceable still, but this was new.

Standing, Petal threw a brief glance around the ship, then sighed. The Sand People had likely taken all the walls out of the ship, but perhaps she could still find a room to change in - if not, well, that was too bad for everyone else. It wasn't like she cared if she was shirtless.

But some people got upset over the strangest things.

Douglas scowled after Kota had delivered a rather scathing lecture and she left to attend to the others. The lecture itself wasn't so much the problem as the "doctor" refusing to listen at all. While he sat propped on the floor, Davis approached him.

"'ere, lemme get that fer ya," he offered with obvious worry in his voice, as he worked to unbuckle the armor. "Then we should prolly getcha inta one o' these beds, eh?"

"... Thank you." Douglas attempted to make the process easier, but was rather unconversational as the blasted armor was removed and the large figure hobbled toward a bed, carrying his heavy blaster as he was strangely accustomed to.

After Kota finished tending to his wounds, Douglas slowly headed to their armory stash and switched his damaged heavy armor for one of the undamaged ones. Slowly taking the time needed to don his armor, he paced toward a bench and a table for a nap. Before drowsing off, his bitter mental state silently mimicked a crucial part of that distasteful sermon in a dazed murmur.

"How'd it go?" Koto asked Vira, trying to stop her attemption wandering and her potentially blacking out.

"Well, it appears I bested them whilist unconcious." Vira grinned, "Apparently, I am that awesome."

"I've had a few nights like that too." Koto murmured.

"Say... You're not into that, are you?" Vira added, poking at one of the table's wrist binders with her hand.

"That depends on how much I like my patients." Koto replied with an air of hushed conspiracy. She tightened the bandage about Vira's torso with a small grunt of effort. "I didn't know Miralukas talked about that sort of thing."

After finishing treating the wounded, Koto looked over the ship to assess the damage. She also took a moment to set aside two rifles - the best from the ship and the Tusken Autocycler. It seemed no-one else had any training with them, so to the engineer went the spoils.

Koto didn't either, but that's what practice was for.

"It'll take at least four days to get the ship able to get off the ground. Preferably if we can get some people to do the simple stuff like rewelding the bulkheads." she reported to the group. Once Koto had completed her investigation of the ship, and Petal had finished changing into fresh light armor, the Zeltron dutifully reported her evaluation of the ship. "It'll take at least four days to get the ship able to get off the ground." She stated matter-of-factly. Petal's shouldered sagged slightly in response. "Preferably if we can get some people to do the simple stuff like rewelding the bulkheads."

The sword fighter threw glances toward Davis and Douglas, both injured, both stronger then the rest of the crew. Davis seemed to be managing however, which was a good sign, But he took more damage then even Vira. Petal threw a quick glance to the heavily bandaged - and vaguely mummy reminiscent - Miraluka. ...yeah, she's not moving anytime soon.

This was troubling. It meant she had to do heavy lifting!

Koto's report hadn't ended while Petal was lost in thought however. The ex-librarian only now realized she'd missed part of it. "....salvageable and the remaining parts should be cheap. I'll write out a list for whoever's going back to pick up the supplies."

"I nominate the Idi -" Petal caught herself, deciding that she must be pragmatic and call him by his name, at least for now. "- Nicholai to go get supplies. He's the least injured member of the crew and should possess adequate skills for the task." She paused, before turning her full attention to Koto, "Admittedly, it would be more ideal if you went yourself - but your time would be better spend repairing the ship I'd imagine."

Then, she frowned, "...ah, yes, as I recall, there was also a Cathar with us during the battle - as I haven't seen his corpse in the desert, I would imagine he's relatively alive and well. If we can find him, I believe he should accompany Nicholai, in the event they encounter Sand People."

Petal made to shrug, then thought better of it with her injuries, "I value our limited credits too highly to entrust them to one person." She paused, and carefully scanned her allies' expressions, "Objections?"

"None," a voice answered. Its owner, a Cathar, as he'd been referred to by the aloof swordswoman, stood in the entrance to the med bay. Unnoticed by the others, Kharr had easily overheard the conversation.

Her words has made sense and he agreed with them, even if she apparently held him in low regard. He stepped further into the room, if only to show the others, especially Petal, that he was completely unharmed. Even if he knew it was only natural for the others to be somewhat dismissive, a guy still had his pride. His gaze met with hers for a moment or two before he broke the eye contact to look at the rest of the room. Brown eyes lingered on the numerous restraints as he did so: judging from this and what else he'd seen, the people aboard the vessel had not been of the nice variety. Perhaps the sand people had done them a favor when they had killed the crew.

Absentmindedly lightly tapping his new pistol with an extended claw, he merely waited to see if anyone else objected. To be honest, he was glad someone else was coming with him, even if it was Nicholai. He could leave all the talking to him; he certainly seemed to love doing it, in any case.

"I don't know what you guys are talking about," Nicholai said as he made his way down the corridor, "but I heard my name be said, so I assume you must miss my company."

"I heard something about leaving the ship with the Cathar," he admitted to the others, "I guess the damage was bad then."

He looked around at the others in the room. Aside from Koto and Khar, the others, battered and bruised, no condition to be active. "Well then, I guess I'm OK with making the trek back to town to get what we need, as long as it is my last trip there."

"Just tell me what you need Doc, and I'll be up and back in no time," he said, still talking at his fast pace, not even stopping to take a breath. "I seriously don't even understand this place. Two suns? How that even work? Does the planet move in a figure-eight around them, or move around both in one rotation? I'm no scientist, but it just doesn't seem right to me," he said, speaking a mile a minute.

"Anyways, just tell me what it is, and me and my pal here," he said, motioning towards Khar, "will waste not times." He then scanned over the heavily injured and bandaged crew members, "just don't bleed to death while we're gone, 'K."

Davis nodded at the plan. "Well, what're we standin' around fer, then?" he said with a strained grin as he loaded one arm with Gaffi sticks, the other hand firmly placed against his stomach wound. The adrenaline was wearing off and the pain was setting in now, but there was still work to be done and he didn't feel right sitting--even though he'd have pushed anyone else with injuries nearly as bad as his back down into a bed.

"Let's get all this loaded up onto the banthas and get you two on the road."

Perhaps Koto backhanded him and made him quit helping, perhaps someone else did, perhaps Davis helped load.

These, however, were unimportant details.

What was important was that all the unclaimed equipment and the gaffi sticks were loaded onto banthas, which Kharr and Nicholai led back to anchorhead.

----------
1 DAY LATER

Anchorhead:

"Sirs, please stop where you are," the Czerka corp guard intoned as he saw the two leading the bantha arrive with what seemed like a whole lot of salvage. "I'll need to see your salvage license, and..." he added, looking over the gaffi sticks, "Your hunting license, please."

THE SHIP:

The night had passed peacefully, and most of the crew was beginning to feel a bit better, their wounds closing. Little had been done in way of repairs, however, most of the small group taking the time to heal as was the intelligent thing to do.

However, with morning came unpleasant surprises.

Douglas was the first to hear it. A faint sound that sounded something like a disgruntled donkey. He signaled to the others to listen, as the sound repeated, this time alerting the others.

Douglass moved to out the entrance ramp, peaking down carefully.

Sand people. He could see at least two, but it was hard to say how many others were in the vicinity. One was retreating, running away from the ship, apparently.

The other noticed him and fired, however. The slug travelled neatly, with incredible precision, or at least luck, and caught him in the side of the throat as he attempted to roll back into the ship. Blood was coming fast and he was quick to apply pressure to the wound with his hand as he scuttled back from the entrance ramp (Sand person super critted, 19 damage).

If one listened they could hear the sand person beginning to reload his rifle, as Davis, and, hopefully, others, rushed to help Douglas and pull him away from the entrance to the ship.

Frowning, Petal's green eyes tracked Douglas' progress through the ship, had he heard what she thought she had? She'd been about to check herself, but the ex-soldier seemed to have beaten her to it. She shrugged, no need for two of them to waste their time -

Gunfire.

Petal whirled toward the entrance, newly repaired desert cloak flowing out in her wake. Her boots beat a quick rhythm on the metal deck of the ship as she hurried to the ship's entrance - and cursed at the sight. Quickly, the sword fighter grasped the injured ex-soldier's upper arms and tried to hasten his progress into the ship.

She hoped they could get into the ship before that damned Sand Person finished reloading.

"Raiders!" Petal shouted, wincing inwardly at the redundancy of her words, "Stay in the ship - they can't hurt us if they can't see us!" Even as she said the words, Petal knew they were more for her benefit then the others - they could attack from a distance, she would be the only one who had to cower in the ship's corridors until the enemy closed.

Still, it was sound advice.

'Oh yeah, now the authorities do stuff on this planet,' Nicholai thought to himself. Why weren't they out enforcing other laws on other people?

This wasn't looking good. Apparently, one needed permission to go out into the dessert and slaughter raider. Ridiculous, in Nicholai's opinion, and although he did have a license to go out and kill them anyways, he apparently needed a license to take things from their corpses.

"Sir, I can assure you that me and my compatriot do indeed have hunting licenses," he informed the man, showing him his license. "Although, I am not in possesion of a scavenger license, I feel like your a reasonable man, perhaps we can work something out, " he said, "we simpley wish to sell these items, and turn the ghaffi sticks for a bounty." Nicholai considered the idea of telling him about the ship, and that their group probably would leave by tomorrow, but that would probably worsen things, what with no licenses for that.

Nicholai knew, almost for a fact, that no one on Tantoonie was completely upright or honorable. Just about anyone that you happen to meet would probably be corrupt enough to be bribed or something along those lines. Nicholai just prayed that this man wasn't an exception.

If this man remained adamant, Nicholai still had a back-up plan. He would talk. He would stay here and talk to this man, no matter how long it took, until he gave up. He would talk until one of them died of hunger if necessary, either one. It may take him longer than he wanted to get back to the others, but the didn't care.

The guard grunted with a slight harumph, as his eyes settled onto the rather talkative hunter. "If you have a hunter's license you are free to turn in the gaffi sticks for reward at the Czerka bounty offices," he started, pointing through the gates and into the city. "However," he continued, his voice stern, "All scavenge is property of Czerka Corp. and if you lack a scavenger's license we will be forced to seize it."

He pointed to a nearby building, "Please bring your pack animals over there for processing, sir."

"Now I don't mean to be rude," Nicholi said to the guard, "but why should Czerka get the supplies that we found when we are the ones who made a trek out to the desert to get it." Nicholai was hoping that his plan would work. He would simply filibuster this guy until they were arrested or someone died. In fact, arrest wouldn't stop him.

"Perhaps we aren't beyond an agreement," he said to the man, trying to keep a tone that wouldn't incite any bad feelings.

"We managed to find some decent supplies while we were there," he said, motioning towards the banthas, "perhaps we can make some form of a trade with this corporation you work for, maybe a sale at cut price," he suggested.

Nicholai was still holding back the possibility of bribing the guard. While he was pretty sure in the possibility that this man would be easy enough to bribe, he decided it would be more tactful to attempt a deal first.

AT THE SHIP:

Things seemed quiet, there had been no more sounds from the the sand people outside since the initial run in, however it was strange that they hadn't attacked the ship yet, either. Something wasn't right, but who was going to risk exiting the ramp again?

Anchorhead:

The guard grunted a bit. "Alright, fine, if it'll get you off my back... just bring your things over there and wait. I'll see about selling you a scavenger license retroactively," he said as he pointed back to the previous building. "Czerka Corp. is still entitled to 50% of all scavenge, however. This is OUR planet, sir, and therefore all scavenge is ours. We merely allow people like you to keep 50% of it as a reward for bringing it in for processing."

Davis had tried to help load the Banathas and Koto had stopped him without having to make good on a threat of beating him to a pulp with a bleeding ex-limb. This was fortunate since the rather slender Zeltron looked incapable of pulling it off without mechanical assistance.

The rest of the day was fairly thankfully devoid of such horrow shows, the injured resting and some chipping away at the monumental task of repairing a starship begun.

It all went out the window early the next morning, Douglas being shot and Petal raising the alarm.

"Poodoo!" Koto declared as she rush down the corridor, struggling to finish wrapping a burnoose about her head one handed, the Tusken rifle she'd pulled out of the stockpile in her free hand. She looked around at the people huddled near the entrance to ambush any Sand People who came too close.

"What if they have grenades?" Koto observed, ducking into the medical bay to pull out a doctor's bag she'd put together from the more portable and less tetanus infected salvage.

"How many shot at you?" she asked Douglas, propping her new gun against the wall and peering at his neck wound to assess the damage.

It looked like Nicholai needn't to kill anyone through the power of speech today, the man had conceded, and the Khar and him would be able to make the sale. "Thank you sir, I knew you seemed like a reasonable guy," Nicholai said to him with a respectful nod.

Admittedly, Nicholai doubted he would need a scavenger license, since it everything pointed towards a departure soon, but it wasn't safe to tell the guard that. Besides, he may run into these guys again, it's good to have a license.

One successful rescue operation later, Petal allowed herself a sigh of relief. For all his faults, Douglas was an effective - if frustratingly difficult to repair - battle droid, making him an asset in combat. Not to mention that, quite simply, he was stronger then her and easy to manipulate besides. All of which added up to Petal doing less work, if he was alive. And that, she reminded herself, is the most important consideration.

"What if they have grenades?" Koto observed, sounding concerned - although whether it was from the grenades or because Douglas had sustained significant damage was anyone's guess.

Nodding resolutely, Petal got to her feet and drew her sword. "As I am the most expendable," she stated firmly, "in this situation, I believe it falls to be to determine what they'd doing out there." She turned from the group in a swirl of her sand colored robe.

"How many shot at you?" Koto inquired of Douglas.

Pausing, Petal decided to relieve Douglas of the burden of speech. "I only saw two." She supplied, still facing away from the group, "And only one fired a shot."

That said, with sword in hand, Petal cautiously crept from the ship, senses alert for attacks, or anything out of the ordinary. If the Raiders were watching the ship's entrance - as they should be - her meagre attempt at stealth would prove futile. In all likelihood, if this was a serious raid, she'd be dodging bullets in moments.

I hate feeling like bait.

Douglas stormed the ship, muttering profusely, having forgotten his good graces to Petal and Davis in the heat of the moment, his weapon slung to his back as he hastily examined the ship. A cloth was roughly wrapped around his neck like a scarf with little care to medical detail except for stopping blood flow.

"Barricades! Get some barricades!"

The soldier relocated some of the bulkheads and large metal crates, sliding them along the floor of the hallway just around the corner, stacking them high with a gap in the middle to aim his weapon through the slot.

As Petal steps down onto the ramp she sees... nothing. There appears to be no trace of the sand people from before, and all signs that they had ever been there seem to have vanished in Tatooine's shifting sands.

However, as she stepped down into the sand, things quickly changed. First came the loud krakow of a Tusken Cycler being fired, the projectile coming from somewhere within the sand where the previous Raider had been standing. A sharp pain in her shoulder told her she wasn't fast enough, and that the raider hadn't gotten as lucky this time around (2 damage).

However, before she could even register the pain she was surrounded by screaming, and four more forms burst from the ground, their Gaffi sticks striking out with deadly intent. She attempted to dodge and parry, but the attack caught her by surprise, the hook of one sand person slashing through her arm painfully (5 damage), while another narrowly missed her throat (evaded), yet another struck the blade of her sword as she attempted a clumsy parry, sending her slightly off balance (1 damage), and the axe head of the last sand person's gaffi stick narrowly missed slicing her face in half.

Heralded by a bullet from a hundred paces distance, enemies sprang up from the sand around her, shrieking warcries and lashing out with their bladed sticks. Suddenly surrounded, outnumbered and fighting for her life, Petal scrambled to parry and evade the attacks.

Swiftly regaining her balance after her last clumsy excuse for a parry, Petal cracked an icy smile. Her grip on her sword tightened as, quick as lightning, she changed her stance and dropped into a low crouch - dodging yet another strike in the process.

"Idiots." She murmured.

Her sword was became a flashing river of steel as she sprang up in a twirling rush, lashing out in a circle. White lines danced over each Raider in an instant, turned from their usual silver by the light of Tatooine's twin suns, as her blade's tip wove a flurry of light cuts along each of them in passing.

Landing lightly on the ship's ramp, Petal completed her spin with a short flourish of her blazing white sword.

"You only get one ambush." Petal stated coldly.

Petal's quickly flashing blade did tremendous damage... to the sand people's clothing. Her sword totally failed to make any purchase in their flesh, each blow missing completely. Emboldened, the creatures rushed forward, swinging their gaffi sticks with murderous intent.

Their attacks came swiftly, an axe blade cutting through her thigh painfully (5 damage), as she danced out of the way of another, and attempted to twirl away from a third, the hook end of the stick only barely grazing her chest, drawing a small bead of blood (1 damage). However it was enough to cause her to stumble a bit and put her off balance as the last of the sand people screamed violently and swung his gaffi stick with all his strength, the axe blade digging deeply into her already injured stomach, and sticking there for a moment (15 damage).

Her eyes drifted downward as he pulled it back out, with a burst of blood, but she couldn't feel it. Her strength leaving her she tumbled downward, off the ramp, and into the desert sands bleeding heavily.

Davis rounded the corner just in time to see her injury, "Dammit!" he yelled as he prepared to run after her, the sand people now turning toward him.

Leaning around the corner after Davis, she took in the scene. Four Sand People right there on the entry ramp, Petal lying face down in a pool of her own blood. The hand holding her looted rifle pressed against the wall to stabilise herself, while there was no opportunity right now, she wanted to switch over to the rifle when she got a chance.

Most of her body concealed behind the wall, she fired around the corner with her pistol, taking care to aim well clear of Davis and Petal.

Koto's single shot blasted directly through the chest of one of the sand people, sending it tumbling over the side of the ramp, landing right next to Petal. The two would have looked almost cute laying next to each other if not for all the blood.

However, the other three charged forward, preceeded by a single shot from the sniper which barely grazed Davis's arm (2 damage) as he charged forward to meet the onslaught of the sand people, swinging his axe pick down upon the shoulder of one of the sand people (6 damage), and yanking it out with a gout of thick reddish liquid.

The injured sand person screamed in pain before attacking Davis with his gaffi stick, to find himself somewhat shocked as the large man stepped INTO the attack, allowing the unsharpened pole portion of the stick to thud into his side harmlessly (2 damage), while he blocked another attack similarly with his forearm, leaving a rather large bruise, but no other signs of assault (2 damage). The last attack, however, he managed to evade completely, stepping back just as the powerfully swung gaffi slid infront of his face, the axe head smashing into the boarding ramp with a resounding clang.
