Discuss the RP here.

Expect Group 3's introduction post soon.

Hey Truce, what are the distances betwwen us and the enemy?

I also have the suspicion that this 'enemy' is Emperor Cirian. And that the 'parcel' was his corpse. You just did this so Krylo and me could have a 'nice job breaking it hero' moment, didn't you? Well played.

Cirian aside, that's exactly what this moment is. No doubt about it.

So its totally at least half your fault Bard. ^_^

Medium Distance.

Also, no, it's not Ciaran. Ciaran wouldn't go about doing things like this.

Yay for being back in play.

Having the first post there works great for being semi-emotionless (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheSpock) too.

I think I'm going to have Ralts attack. I bought an electro-marble earlier, may as well put it to use.

And if we can kill this guy (although I doubt it), do you think I could get away with taking Excalibur? Or would the guards catch me first? I'm wagering its the second one, but that sword is just awesome.

Yeah, sorry. I've been vaguely keeping tabs on this, but I lost track of what was going on a while back and haven't had time to look through and clear everything up. Appearance: Blond hair, athletic build, and tall stature. She wears her hair in an elaborate braided bun and never leaves home without earrings, even though she wears a helmet. Impractical? Probably. But if you tell her this, you'll probably lose some teeth.

Background: Elsa lives for the thrill of battle. Almost obsessively so. Some say, in whispers, that this is because the years wielding the powers of shadow and dark magic have taken their toll on her mental state. This isn’t to say she’s the dark and brooding type, driven by inner torment: Quite the opposite, actually. She seems to be motivated by the single desire to cause as much damage as humanly possible just for the hell of it, and seems to enjoy this pastime immensely. This leads people (fellow Dark Knights included) to believe that she is somewhat insane. Some say this is the result of magical corruption; others blame the influence of her former teacher, a similarly mentally-unbalanced Dark Knight who ultimately met his end trying to fist-fight a dragon “because it looked at him funny.” If you ask Elsa, she’d probably call you unpleasant names.

Quote: "There's a whole wonderful world out there, full of things I haven't killed yet. I mean to change that."

Teal Mage

There should be number under your class, beside the words Skill Points. For Dark Knights, its 14.

Just add your Int Score to that.

So, in your case it would be 8+14 = 22.

I think you have one too many points in your attributes as well.

Otherwise, I can't see any problems. Pity we won't be in the same group, this character sounds like she'd be interesting - to say the least. But group one does have a crazy of its own. I suppose that's sufficient.

mauve
01-25-2010, 03:47 AM
Thanks. I knew it had something to do with my INT score, but I didn't know if I should add my rank or actual score to the Dark Knight points. I'll fix that.

As for my attributes, that extra point is the +1 VIT from her armor. My bad-- I should have specified that.

Pity we won't be in the same group, this character sounds like she'd be interesting - to say the least. But group one does have a crazy of its own. I suppose that's sufficient. Heheheehehe. Oh yeah, she'd be on the same team as the Paladin. I can just see how well that would go. XD

Axl
01-25-2010, 03:51 AM
Let's see what the number crunch pulls up...

Repeating Teal's findings:

You only used 17/22 available skill points.

Hot new fire:

HP/Level: +11
MP/Level: +10 (Per level is the Att Score plus the Job Bonus)
Should have 100 GP left (Weapon 100, Vest 200, 2x Potion 100)
EVA: 7 (+1 DEX rating and 6 for the Job bonus unless there's something I'm missing)

Teal Mage
01-25-2010, 03:57 AM
Heheheehehe. Oh yeah, she'd be on the same team as the Paladin. I can just see how well that would go. XD

I know! Its totally like, the best idea in the world.

Paladins and Dark Knights compliment each other's job abilities really well. They're just born partners! Ziegmund and Elsa would obviously set their differences aside for the sake of murder - it's a mutual calling.

Menarker
01-25-2010, 03:33 PM
A few of your skills are too high I think.

Your Max rank in skills is based on your sub-stat Rating + 1. (And your Str rating happens to be 3 not 2.)

This means that both your synthesis rank and your awareness are regrettably one rank too high unless you move one point from elsewhere to INT. 8 INT means a rating of 2 and thus a max rank of 3 in those skills, and two of your INT skills are at rank 4.

(Although if you can't move it from str without causing the same problem for Massive Weapons)

Oh, I didn't think of that! Thanks!

Sorry guys, my computer refused to download the pdf of the manual so I've been using a txt version, and it's a bit difficult to navigate. I have no idea where everyone is getting all these numbers from, but I'm taking your word for it since I can't find anything in my version of the rules. XD

As soon as I fix that, will I be okay to start playing, Truce?

Truce
01-27-2010, 01:35 AM
Feel free, Mauve.

TAL - More or less what happened. If you desire, you could even talk to Krylo to find out what he knows before taking action, since you're the only character in a position to have a chance of meeting Jal before all this.

phil_
01-27-2010, 01:57 AM
Hey, Truce, can we use potions and other healing items on other characters on our turn? I mean, I know it doesn't really matter, since 50HP isn't much in the face of a guy who can kill each of us in a single hit (or maybe a single turn), but I'd like to know, anyway.

Edit: I just saw where Truce's avatar came from lolololol.

Menarker
01-27-2010, 02:05 AM
I'm pretty certain items like Phoenix Down would be useless if we couldn't use them on our allies. ^^; So I'm willing to bet the answer might be yes.

However, I'm also willing to bet that there might be a range restraint however like having to be in close range to apply it or force a potion down someone's throat.

Unless our system operates like this...

Truce
02-06-2010, 11:52 AM
So it's sorta obvious that it's been a bit too slow. And by slow, I mean nothing has happened at all. So, I'd like to discuss a couple of things with you guys to make this go along faster.

First, I'd like to see who still wants to stick around. I'll try to make a post tonight or tomorrow, depending on how everything sorts out.

Second, statting up the encounters is more difficult than I expected it to be. Since I'm trying to balance it out anyway, I'm thinking of switching to a more free form type of RP - but not completely. The idea would be that your limits would be still be decided by your character sheets - in this case, character sheets would be a lot like general guidelines.

Still, I understand the feeling of seeing your character deal massive damage to an enemy, so if you guys wouldn't want to switch that's fine by me.

Third is my schedule. The past couple of weeks, it got a little hectic since I was still adjusting to it, but it should be more or less stable now. The days I'll usually be free from now on will be Thursday through Sunday (except this Sunday).

Sorry for the delay. I'd like to say stuff came up, but I really should've seen those things coming.

Bard The 5th LW
02-06-2010, 11:56 AM
I'd definitely like to keep it up. And switch the type of RP to whatever is easiest for you to handle I suppose, but I kind of prefer the current set-up.

If you want to do free-form, I guess that's ok. I don't have much to add beyond that.

Menarker
02-06-2010, 02:58 PM
Totally in. Personally prefer what we got going, but it's really up to you. The suggested idea of blending the two a slight would be neat. However it would somewhat impact my character to go freeform (Scan would probably be a hell of a lot less useful).

phil_
02-06-2010, 04:17 PM
However it would somewhat impact my character to go freeform (Scan would probably be a hell of a lot less useful).I have the same issue, except it's with Flirt and all of my "plus or minus to a stat" Arts (which is 3/4 of Bello's repertoire).

But we can sort this out if we actually end up dropping the numbers.

Teal Mage
02-06-2010, 05:47 PM
I suppose I'll play a little longer.

Not sure how long exactly, but I'd like to play out the part of the story I'm in at least. After that, I'll see how I feel about going on - leaning toward stopping right now, but I might change my mind.

As far as freeform versus numbers go, losing the numbers might help balance things. But there'd be other issues that come out of that - how to work magic and MP so mages don't totally outclass fighters, for instance - so it might end up being more work then just rebalancing things, since you’d probably need to resign the entire system.

But my general preference in this case is, "Its up to you Sah DM, I don't care."

HEY EVERYBODY!

http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/1268/forphil.png

YEAH!

Edit: Also, if the voice in Jal's head says we can't win, then we should probably retreat. On the other hand, Jal blocked Excalibur with a dagger, so maybe its corruption has weakened it. Group huddle, guys? Or should we just let Jade drag us all to our deaths?

Edit after reading the other groups: Aww, I want crystals! Maybe a Crystal Guitar? It's like an electric guitar, but with crystals. There's one in Crystal Bearers, you see. Plus, that whole "I can interface with ancient tech" Trait is just lying there being useless.

Bard The 5th LW
02-07-2010, 10:10 PM
I say we stand and fight! Lets prove ourselves to not be as evil as the other groups may think!

We must go beyond the impossible and defeat him! For that is the Group 2 way!

Besides, we're already this far into it, going back now would make him even more hell-bent on killing us.

phil_
02-07-2010, 10:55 PM
Well, as far as group huddle goes, Jade couldn't, rather, didn't hit him, so his evasion might be really high. Either that, or his Armour is so high that she can't hurt him. On the other hand, the electro marble, while it hit him, didn't seem to do HP damage, given that Truce's post didn't end with

Dark Lord: -X/??

so we don't know if that hurt him either. So we seem unable to hurt the guy. As for me, assuming he's undead, Bello would do more damage with his razor than by mimicing a Blizzard from Ralts. But, again, we have no indication that we can hurt him. From a purely meta-gaming perspective, we should totally run from this battle. However, that doesn't really fit most of our group's characters. So, yeah. We either die or let the LORD OF DARKNESS go free. Neither is particularly appealing.

Bard The 5th LW
02-07-2010, 11:26 PM
Perhaps curing magic will hurt him? he is undead. I should have learned life, if I did we could have complete dungeon bypass, like the Phantom Train.

And I think that Truce may have left out damage from the post because he's swithching over to free form, which also fits with him not posting our distance from Ripel.

phil_
02-07-2010, 11:56 PM
Truce may have left out damage from the post because he's swithching over to free form, which also fits with him not posting our distance from Ripel.I also considered this, hence all the qualifiers on "we didn't hurt him." Though, if he did, I'd appreciate a heads up.

Truce
02-08-2010, 12:02 AM
Ripel was hurt. I didn't bother to mention distances since, handling it via free form, it'll be decided by dramatic necessity.

When discussing how characters are injured, I'll try to give your characters (as well as enemies) cues on how they're hurt. Ripel is pretty hurt right now, but still strong enough to continue to fight - though I can't tell you for how much longer.

Actually I just got caught up in something and thought the RP died considering how much time had passed without an update. Not like Teal's posted, either, apparently.

In all honesty, this thing I'm trudging through right now along with my work schedule (in the process of transferring to a new department) isn't really going to be conducive to me posting in a timely manner for a bit. If Truce wants to just play my character for a bit while the group moves on to wherever it is we're supposed to be going, that's fine.

Not like Teal's posted, either, apparently.

I have nothing to say, so I don't want to waste a post in the game thread. I'll just follow the group quietly until something worth replying to comes up.

Not that it’s a real excuse for lack of effort in my posts, but enjoying this RP has - once again - become a challenge for me. Right now I'm just planning to go through the motions until a convenient time to drop comes up. Since, after spending a lot of time looking through the system, I've come to the conclusion that it and I won't live in happy marital bliss no matter who or what I play. Bit of a spirit breaker for me, honestly.

So, now you know why I'm not posting much.

I am sorry that my eventual resignation will leave Group 1 incredibly short staffed though.

Since, after spending a lot of time looking through the system, I've come to the conclusion that it and I won't live in happy marital bliss no matter who or what I play. But, Teal, we've told the system to take a hike. Didn't you see us beat the re-incarnated Shadow Lord zombie? No dice or HP or anything.

I'm still wondering how we're gonna get new spells and stuff with this free-form version, though.

Teal Mage
02-13-2010, 01:55 AM
I'm not convinced that'll help all that much, to be totally honest. It wasn't just the numbers that were the problem, a lot of the classes and their abilities just felt unbalanced to me, like whoever was designing the game either stopped halfway through, or decided they really liked White, Black and Red Magic, but really didn't like Samurais, Blue Mages, Geomancers, Entertainers (unless they're mimics!) and left them without many options about how to play if they wanted to be remotely good.

But that might just be my feeling - I don't particularly like being told there's only one way to do things viably.

All that aside, converting a number's system to freeform isn't an easy task either, but I doubt I need to explain that in too much depth. Some of the skills and abilities only worked by affecting those numbers after all. It'll be a lot of work, and I'm not totally sure I feel like sticking around long enough to see the pay off in the meantime.

I'm still wondering how we're gonna get new spells and stuff with this free-form version, though.

I was under the impression Truce meant to stick with character sheets and levels, but use the sheets as guidelines more than absolutes.

mauve
02-13-2010, 01:58 AM
I'm still wondering how we're gonna get new spells and stuff with this free-form version, though. We'l probably choose new abilities and such at the end of big battles, or the end of chapters, or something alonng those lines.

Also-- Has my team been reduced to just me and Naqel? Sigfright? Anyone else? You guys here?

Hmmmm. Well Naqel, it looks like the duty of saving the world from crystal-related destruction falls solely upon our shoulders.

Hehehehehee the world is screwed. :D

I'm still kind of interested, but as the only character in the group without people skills or plot powers, my character seems kinda superfluous to the whole thing, and that's led to a bit of a decline in interest.

You could, like, flesh out your dude some more, Argent. The character doesn't end with the numbers, you know.

I know that. But, this being originally a rules-based RPG, I was pretty much incapable of actually talking to an NPC to any effect because my character wasn't built with any interaction skills. And I tend not to describe my character's thoughts because, well, they're not all that interesting. Also, I don't know much about fictional mechanics.

I guess it's more that everyone else in the team either has an overblown personality, or a direct line into the plotline, and my character is just kinda there.

Also, while we aren't using the system anymore, for those of you still interested in the rules there's apparently a new version of the core book out.

Hehe, quite a few changes... and a few more typos... :3

EDIT: If we see a rule that has changed in the new book that effects our character's current build negatively, is it possible to negotiate it? In my case, it's regarding my dragon. In the first book, it deals damage when I crit according to the STR stat, which is how my character is built. This new book however changed it to Dex, which I got crappy amount of. It's nice that the damage is increased at higher levels, but it doesn't help me at all at this point. (Would be really nice if we could blend it to just subbing Str for where it said Dex)

I suppose it would be good to know exactly how much of the rules or setting laws we're disregarding. For instance, we're still using our job classes - what else is being kept?

To give some more concrete questions, how will magic work now? Are HP and MP still considered stats, or is damage determined via realism? Which spells can casters access? Are their effects still set to the descriptions? Are traits, abilities and limit breaks still around, or are they just flavor?

…I'm sure there's others questions that are other relevant concerns. But those are just what I can think of off the top of my head.

And if you're wondering, I'll have my post up tomorrow sometime.

Sorry for the delay!

I hadn't realised things were waiting on me.

Hmm, if we assume dex affects speed, I think Bello might actually be a faster sprinter than Jade.

Oh well, she might want to use that move later when he starts running out of steam. Huzzah for stamina!

This is basically how I intended for that to play out.

Well, Group 1 is waiting for Truce and/or POS to post...

Ain't nothin' we can do until we get a GM post.

We're all prepared to walk into the cave from the looks of it!

Unfortunately, we need the GM to set the cave as a scene.

I'm also going to say that Ecurt needs to post in our RP because what Evoir does decides whether this is a chase scene or the end of the mission.

Hugs, phil_. You get no kisses 'cause I don't roll that way.

Yeah, I've pretty much entirely lost interest at this point.
