It looks like the old prince is back, wearing an old set of clothes:

The question is whether Eleka(?) is making a return. Maybe not in her old capacity, but from what I understand, it would actually be somewhat suspect if she DIDN'T. Straighten her character out a bit, give her a function more similar to Farah's, and they might have themselves a deal with the fanbase.

From what I've heard, the game is part of the original trilogy and stars the Prince's brother.

In that case, I have to wonder if maybe before coming to power, the Sultan's family wasn't a circus troupe. It looks like whoever this prince is, he's got the same parkour thing going as the one we know and love, although they look similar enough that the difference will probably be superficial at best overall, so I guess that it doesn't really matter much.

I wonder if this will somehow tie into the movie?

I disapprove of this whole heartedly. This could be a major step back for the franchise.

So long as it doesn't fuck up the parkour, I think it can be forgiven. :p

Can't be any worse than Prince of Persia '08.

Honestly, how could it be a step back?

Dying from so much as taking a step down a stairway comes to mind. I swear the prince has glass bone syndrome sometimes.

I detest retcons and this looks to be a big ol whoppin motherfucker of a retcon, so I'm pretty sure it's going to be lame.

Other than that, what Noncon said.

What? The original original trilogy? Cause that would be... unexpected.

It's totally the original trilogy - Ubisoft confirmed it.

And it's meant to be a game tie-in with the movie they're doing about the original Sands of Time. So it's a game based on a movie based on a game based on a game that's in the second game's universe.

You can see why I'm setting phasers to "Suck."

No... We need something stronger...

"Epic Fail" comes to mind.

It could be good... maybe.

I can only see it be "Hey remember the Sands of Time trilogy? Wasn't it fun?" And me going, "Yes, it was, please don't try to keep it going, I'm okay with it not being the next Zelda or Mario."

I hope they bring back that sweet password system with drinking the lettered potions. That was awesome.

If it's some kind of retcon or new beginning it's probably a good time for me to get back into the series since I was never able to beat the Sands of Time like...eight years ago, and so never played any of the other ones. Ubisoft's game-ending glitches are good for forced replayability but they basically kept me from buying any of the sequels.

The whole trilogy is good, but even with the gameplay improvements of the second one I still absolutely love the first most of all. If only for the writing.

The third one was the best - it had humor, great puzzles, the insta-kill system.

The first reigns in at a close secon, though. As soon as I had beaten it, I went out to buy the next game in the series.

Warrior Within wasn't that bad, at least gameplay-wise it was more of the same kickass stuff. The story was disappointing, but Two Thrones redeemed that somewhat that for me.

I actually heard this game starred the "real" PS2-era Prince and takes place between Sands of Time and Warrior Within. I'd much prefer that over a retroactive introduction to the Prince's brother (if he had a brother, it'd just be stupid for the good old Prince not to have mentioned it.)

I'm pretty sure the Prince having a brother - with his own kingdom for no reason considering I'm 99% sure that's not how Persian royalty works - is a total retcon.

And on Warrior Within: IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII STAND ALOOOOOOONE!

The third was the best gameplay wise, yeah, and I did like the instant-kill system, but I hated A - the chariot races which were unexciting, B - changing Farah from a personable strong female to an emotionless Action Girl, and C - Dark Prince segments, which timed you on the puzzles but yawned him through combat.

I'm actually very happy with what Warrior Within did for the battle system in the series (except for the fact that you can basically choke people to death) but the reason for the condolences was that he probably bought it fully expecting a similar game.

The main strengths of SoT for me were the platforming, the enjoyable characters and the atmosphere. WW ruined two of those, and what it added back didn't make up for what was lost. Two Thrones brought back Fun Prince (TM), made it more storybook-ish again, kept the awesome combat... and then added in Chariot Racing and weird Dark Prince combat, which brought it back down to par with SoT in my mind.

New PoP was a fun enough game in my opinion, but it was too easy and I miss the time control. The nonlinearity was unnecessary as well and it just needlessly complicated the game for me.

Bugger to the chariot races. I could have done without that. Dark Prince was a unique little thing, but damned if I found decent uses for him. It's kinda like you're forced to use him and you have to make due with what's in front of you, which really just annoyed me.

The first was still the best. My ish with the second is the fact that the Prince is ALLLL ALOOOONE for so much of it, that I could have cared less about the other characters running around. Then, in the end, when you're lead to the third one, it's like they wasted a character! Ubi could have done a better job, I believe.

Hey, I liked the Dark Prince. The whip combat was hard to get used to, but his bits were usually pretty fun. And the chariot races? There's two. They're each, what, less than five minutes?

That's what I remember hearing too, something about explaining exactly why he goes from Sands of Time Prince, to Warrior Within Prince with everyone hating him/trying to kill him more fully explored. I've gotta look up the article again.

Ugh, See, now looking at this really makes me want to jump from Ubisoft, even though they're pretty much my favorite game developer ever. Seriously, they have a good track record, this could be a good game, just bad execution of said game, which would suck.
I liked the whole premise of using different princes with different main gimicks, I have'nt played the new one to see how it was, but I know I like the Sands Series ending and them moving on with it.

Two too many.

Yes the Dark Prince is alright. I just wish he wasn't forced on me where I have absolutely no control over his moments. It's like Ubi just came to slap me off a pedestal when it turns 4th of July.

Plus, their new DRM policy (http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2010/01/ubisofts-new-drm-solution-you-have-be-online-to-play.ars) doesn't help.

Am I the only one who has extended periods without the internet and likes being able to play their games at such times? That's why I like Steam's Offline Mode.

This is just silly, Ubisoft.

I can give you a detailed explanation of exactly how and why the Prince goes from the heart-of-gold sarcastic jerk who doesn't know as much as he thinks he does to the growling troubled brooding goth with overlong hair because the Dahaka had been chasing him for years causing him to live in a constant state of paranoia and fear and blah blah blah.

Doesn't make it any less fucking stupid, especially when Shadee shows up wearing a bikini made out of steel.
