Jesus fucking christ all my favorite bands are breaking up.
Say goodnight to The Fall of Troy after their current tour. I will be seeing their show on tuesday April 6th, fuck everything else. TFOT has been a pretty big influence on my music tastes and has generally influenced the way i listen to music. Fantastic band with fantastic musicians.

They sound like a janky ass Fallout Boy.
The guitar riffs are elementary and repetitive, the vocalist(s) sing poorly and all that "grr angry angry emo" crap gets on my nerves.
The song I listened to didn't seem to be able to make up it's mind on where it was going and the lyrics (the ones I could discern from all the mush-mouth fake metal bullshit) were entirely uninspired.
In short, I don't think they're a very good band.

The guitar riffs are elementary and repetitive, the vocalist(s) sing poorly and all that "grr angry angry emo" crap gets on my nerves. It really depends on what song you listen to. His play style changes a lot between songs. Single uses a lot of arpeggiated palm muted chords in repetition, but The Dark Trail uses a more groove oriented simple chord progression. Then there's Sledgehammer or Macaulay McCulkin where he shreds balls a lot.
The vocalist isn't a very good singer but the way he sings usually adds to the often energetic feeling of the music. Erak has awful screams, Frank has... awful screams. But its a style thing. SikTh has really bad screams too but they make it work with their music.
Grr angry angry emo? =( I don't get that at all!
The song I listened to didn't seem to be able to make up it's mind on where it was going and the lyrics (the ones I could discern from all the mush-mouth fake metal bullshit) were entirely uninspired.Lyrically, they aren't too hot. They have some really good ones and some really bad ones. <.<
In short, I don't think they're a very good band. The song I listened toYou don't have to like them and I doubt your opinion will change after listening to more but you just based 4 albums worth of musical maturation on one song.

Heard about this a couple weeks ago. I'm really sad about it, they're one of my all-time favorite bands. I've seen them twice already and they're coming through again in April so I'll get to see them one last time at least. Thomas is a god.

I thought this thread was about Prince, I'm both dissapointed and relieved.I made a thread a couple months ago and I entitled Goodnight Sweet Prince about The Number Twelve breaking up.
It seems to be a trend in my favorite bands!

I don't care about his penis (though you two seem awfully fond of discussing it), he is shitty at this music thing.

Odjn, Prince, while having nothing to do with this thread, has everything to do with being awesomely fantastic. Get over it.
Purple Rain owns.
But yeah, the band in question, I subsequently listened to portions of 3 other songs and nothing really changed. To clarify my "grr grr angry emo" comment I was referring to the yelling and screaming and general suckery of the vocalist(s).
I'm of the opinion they're only one of you're favorite bands because you're one of about 15 people who even know who they are. Just a hunch though.
I tend to focus first on the vocals and how they flow with the music, then on the lyrics themselves and subsequently the finer points of a songs construction, such as the chord progressions and techniques used as well as nonstandard instruments. Basically I was immediately disappointed by the quality of the vocals, then the meaning behind the noises let me down and finally I found nothing of merit in the music.
I guess they'd be pretty awesome for a high school band.

TFOT is pretty popular as much as they can be. I mean, its not like they are Psyopus or something. They appeal to people musically in a more than cold, technical manner. *shrug*
I have a thing for guitar players and people who think outside the box a little. I can't think of a single band that is even remotely like TFOT. That is a huge appeal to me (after my initial decision to, uh, liek them).

Psyopus is someone you will like considerably less than The Fall of Troy.
Edit: For posterity's sake, and the lulz

The Burning Halo is not really a good indication of Chris Arp's technical ability with a guitar. The guy is pretty much a god of 8 finger tapping.
Also, his nickname is arpmandude. :o

I like Troy mostly cause Thomas is basically a totally ridiculous guitarist. Seriously, the dude can play like no other while holding down lead vocals and has been doing so since his teens, when the band got started, which blows my mind. I don't think they sound like anyone else, they're all incredibly talented for their age and create sweet, complex, unique sounding music I love. I like their singing but I like metal so screamy vocals don't turn me off. I guess vocals aren't really the #1 thing I listen for in music so if they're good that's good but if they're bad it doesn't really ruin things for me. I like their singing though. And I didn't get into them for indie cred.
Funka, what songs are you listening to that you don't think the music has merit? I have a hard time thinking of stuff of theirs where the music isn't all over the place and totally rad unless you're listening solely to the bad songs from Manipulator or something.
Mondt
03-27-2010, 11:53 PM
I love Manipulator. Like... all of it. Except Oh, The Casino!!. <.<
Chipper173
03-28-2010, 02:47 AM
Manipulator is about half-and-half good songs and pretty bleh songs IMO. I like Cut Down All The Trees, The Dark Trail, Ex-Creations, Oh! The Casino, Shh! If You're Quiet I'll Show You A Dinosaur and Sledgehammer. The rest is pretty unremarkable. They sounded like they couldn't decide if they wanted to do more Doppelganger-esque freakout or go for a much simpler, straightforward pop sound and their compromise just sounds watered down. I really like Phantom on the Horizon, though, and In The Unlikely Event has a lot more even sound to it. It may be more committed to pop, but they're at least focused on something, which is better then when they don't know what they want. Plus they still managed to work in some of the freakout stuff.

It was Rockstar Nailbomb! i think.
Holy balls man, I got a drumstick, Frank signed my shirt, and I was that one kid that got on stage first when Thomas told everyone to get the fuck up there and everyone was girls about it.
>.> I felt like such a tard. XD
Edit: I was really hoping for Semi-Fiction, and I would have prefered the trippy alien shit break that he did to be with Macauly McCulkin because fuck that is an awesome song.
Also, he picked like all the songs i dont know words to =(
Double Edit: So, I was yelling about him making sweet love to his guitar most of the night.
And then he actually did.
I lol'd.
Also, pedal wouldn't be sticky if thomas didn't rub one off on drew. :o

I got a picture with Frank and accidentally hung out with him and Andrew outside for a few minutes before the show started. One of my friends had a cig with Thomas, I was super jealous. At the beginning of the show when the riff to Laces Out kicked in I threw myself in the pit just as it exploded, I got knocked halfway across the room and slid the other half then got up and ran out, best start to a concert ever. After that I stayed near the back of the lower area and sang along to everything and air guitared.
Pretty sad that that was it though :( And no F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X.!

Well, we showed up to the bottleneck just as TFOT was soundchecking, so we just kinda chilled, he hit that first note and we just bolted to the stage. The grossest I've ever gotten at a concert and I really didn't care at all.
My X's were gone before I left the venue. Never purposefully rubbed or anything, just sweated 'em right off. In one setlist.
Jesus fuck I want to go back.
Edit: I groped Erak a few times. XD Mission: Accomplished.
