View Full Version : Hollywood to make a Bleach movie
I fully expect that this great movie will meet the high bar of quality set by the Dragonball movie (http://www.heatvisionblog.com/2010/03/warner-bros-prepping-film-adaptation-of-bleach-manga.html)
It's being directed by the same guy who did the "Get Smart" movie and "Fifty First Dates". This is gonna be great.
Johnny Depp as Mayuri Kurotsuchi... calling it now.

Clancy Brown as Kenpachi.
And the movie should be nothing more than him going around, kicking everyone's ass.

Yeah, this is gonna be so great... unless...
Edward Norton as Ichigo
Brad Pitt as Grimmjow
...
The guy who was Marv in Sin City as Kenpachi.

I shudder to imagine how they are going to cast most of the females with E+ cups like Orihime or Matsumoto.
Or the children characters. It's kinda rare to see kid characters in shows with violence or fanservice in any live action show.

This will be something to completely ignore, like Dragon Ball.
I'm actually a Bleach fan... when it isn't filler... so I'm considering the possibility that this might have some so bad it's good potential. Probably won't! But it might.

There is no chance this is gonna be above Dragonball-movie-quality.
The more I think about it, the more it just doesn't seem to work.

they have a live action version in japan, so, like most things they will use more averagely endowed women.
Betting this is pre-soul society stuff. Which might be to their advantage. Teenager in a modern city fighting monsters. Least they wont completely screw up the setting. Still shonen doesn't translate to live action very well. Ten bucks says Ichigo's sword isn't even half the size its supposed to be.

There is only 1 Anime turned Movie i would watch.
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c190/arbel13/HajimenoIppo.gif
It would be like the Unholy creation of Silverster Stallone and the Guys who did The Matrix. If they captured the insanity of Hajime no Ippo's Boxing, it would make an AWESOME , albeit stupid, movie that i would 100% want to watch.
But Bleach...?
A 2 hour movie can't cover the Soul Society Arc, so i hardly see the point of trying if before you even start it's already stabilished that you will kill any chance of Keeping the story in there.
And they managed to screw up with Dragonball-Fighting. There is no WAY they could nail Bleach.

...
Adam Sandler as Captain Stoner.
Crap, that is a terrible decision

Adam Sandler will be Ichigo's Dad. That's not me calling it, that's a Goddamn oracular vision.
Now, if they want to strip people of their free will and MAKE us watch it. . . Summer Glau as Rukia.

As far as I'm concerned this movie is fake. There are no plans, and someone is screwing with the fans.
Because Hollywood needs to be wiped out, NOW!

Any topic titles concerning the Hollywood remakes of Bleach, Akira, Cowboy Bebop, etc. are obligatorily required to say something along the lines of "Hollywood to rape [insert franchise here]". "make" is too weak a verb for such atrocity.

Shia LaBeouf, or Robert Pattinson. He's so dreamy.

:stressed: Dear GOD, the unadulterated RAGE. Shit, I would rather HAILLY JOEL OSMENT play Ichigo than either of those two fags. And by fags I mean cigarettes, because they stink and when people smoke them they die from lung cancer.
Ummm. Shia LeBoof wasn't in Dragonball, I don't think. It was the guy from Invisible or whatever who is a different person.
I vote Michael Cera because he's as much of an irritating mopey douche as Ichigo.

Also, I think Hanatarou Yamada is a better fit for Miss, er, Mister Cera.

Time to go looking for new talent. I can't think of anyone young enough and not indoctrinated into celebrity enough for the roles. I mean, you could ask Megan Fox to be a ditz and dye her hair brown...
(and yes, it IS brown, as the people who animate the show are clearly doinitwrong).

Oh this won't pan out well at all. I have no ideas for anyone, they might just have to cast a bunch of unknown people.
Watch Orihime be nowhere near as well endowed as she's supposed to. I've seen it messed up four times already, with Mary Jane, Nancy Callahan, Sue Storm and Bulma. I have no faith in this movie.

Meanwhile, I want to see Bruce Willis as Chad. Just shave him properly and give him a wig and he'll look young.
Depends on how flat the character is

It does happen to otherwise normal looking women its just exceedingly rare. Also it causes a lot of problems like shoulder and lower back pain. Generally speaking they end up looking into reduction surgeries because its more trouble than its worth. Protip avoid the BBC late at night on weekends some strange crap goes down their sometimes.

It may be, but it's probably much better viewing that that mess than they pass off on MTV's True Life.
And about the bust, it may not be that serious and it's surely not a personality trait but it is a minor annoyance. When I see a character on the big screen I'd like to see them as close to the actress as possible, and in many cases it's almost like they didn't even try, instead just grabbing whoever is hot at that moment.
Mary Jane = Kirsten Dunst
Way off. They, IMHO, would have been much better had they cast Laura Prepon back when she was thicker and had red hair. She is much closer to Mary Jane than Kirsten. But even then, Bryce Dallas Howard could have done the job as well.
Sue Storm = Jessica Alba
Seriously? This was way off and even they knew it, that's why for some asinine reason she looked more Caucasian in the second. And it's not just skin color, I can deal with that. She didn't have the body, the acting chops, the motherly look, nothing.
Nancy Callahan = Jessica Alba
It must be good to be Jessica Alba, not knowing how to act and getting cast in everything just because she's attractive.
Elektra Natchios = Jennifer Garner
This was just putrid.
Catwoman = Halle Berry
I doubt I can find anyone who thinks this was a good idea. Once she got out of that leather outfit the error in choosing her became apparent.
Lara Croft = Angelina Jolie
You know, it never ceases to boggle my mind why they have all these models for Tomb Raider but they never got the idea to cast one of them as her in a movie. I mean seriously, Angelina Jolie? She did good but she was nowhere near as sexy as Lara Croft is supposed to be.
Good examples?
Famke Janssen = Jean Grey / Phoenix
This was good, IMHO. I was quite a fan. She had the body, the look, everything was right. Until the third X-Men flick but that wasn't her fault.
Emmy Rossum = Bulma
I seem to recall Bulma being a little more well endowed but she did a great job nonetheless.

I think I've seen a few cases like that.
The movie is most likely going to be centered around the beginning (pre SS ark) anyway. So they don't have to worry about getting that right (not that they'll care anyway).

This is just a really bad idea. Some things can't make the transition to live action and Bleach strikes me as one of them. Plus, I really don't think American audiences would go for it.
I just saw the Death Note movie and I thought it was well done. An American remake/adaptation would be awesome and Zach Efron would be perfect for the lead. For the record, I hate HSM but I really think that he could pull it off.

Death Note and Zac Efron doesn't sound bad at all. I also liked the Live Action. Truthfully I'm wondering how the Live Action Cowboy Bebop is going to turn out. Keanu Reeves almost looks like Spike Spiegel, from some art I've seen of him with an afro, but he can move as smooth as him? Live Action Sailor Moon wasn't half bad, nor GTO or Gokusen. I still need to watch Boogiepop Phantom, and I think that's the only ones I know of.
Thanks for that link Aerozord, that was a great read. I don't think I ever really took any of that into consideration, so much as I just thought the people never wanted to look for a good actress and grabbed the nearest pretty one.

What anime would work as live action? Some stories are just too complex and strange to work in a movie. If people want to make a live action adaptation then they should try it on television where they could be a bit more faithful.
Donomni

Well, that just brings up another problem: Most anime, at least those that would be chosen for a live action adaptation, would require a special effects budget that TV rarely, if ever can cover.
It kinda creates a double-edged sword dealie: A movie could cover all the special effects, but a lot of the story would have to be taken out to get everything to fit. A TV series, on the other hand, could fit the story in, but has a greater chance of all the mystical mojo looking like ass(Quality of it despite the budget aside).
Some anime would work in live action adaptations without too many problems, it's just that most audiences besides the fans wouldn't even know they existed previously, or be very marketable in the first place.
Honestly, the movies Hollywood wants to do would work best in one of two ways:
1) A CGI-animated work, the likes of Pixar and Dreamworks. Not only could the same voice actors be kept to bring in fans, but everything would simply look like it originally was.
2) A live action adaptation that kept the fundamentals of the 'verse, but with new characters and plot. In this topic's case, a detective in <Insert Western City Here> gets involved with Hollow-based murders and eventually works with a Western equivalent of Soul Reapers to stop them(Holy Knights of some sort, MIBs, I dunno). It still identifies with fans a bit by following the verse mechanics, and it wouldn't be the clusterfuck of most live action adaptations.
That being said, some anime just shouldn't be adapted period, if only because Hollywood would fuck something up.

I'd see it if they went in that direction. I don't see them doing it in CG. Even despite astroboy getting the CG treatment with a reworked story and turning out pretty good.
