In the action scenes he works better than I expected, but he loses me slightly when he talks. His voice just doesn't fit with what I had in my head, although I am coming around to him.
Also, Edgar Wright needs to direct every film ever.

This is the role Micheal Cera was born to play.
No, he was born to play George Michael, it just so happens that he's perfect for Scott Pilgrim.
Also, since there seems to be a slight tinge of Cera-hatin' goin' on here (although this is by no means an isolated incident), can anyone explain why they dislike him, beyond "HE PLAY SAME CHARICTUR" (and if that is all you have, care to flesh out the argument)? For me personally, he hasn't really done anything to diminish the free pass given to him by Arrested Development.

While interesting, it's a bit shallow for the amount of pre-movie fangeeking this requires. Meanwhile, I've read this (http://www.hitfix.com/blogs/2008-12-6-motion-captured/posts/michael-cera-and-jason-schwartzman-do-battle-on-the-set-of-scott-pilgrim) like three times. The part where he details how he envisioned it playing out like a musical, where the requisite musical numbers were replaced instead by fight scenes, is exactly the kind of awesome they needed to bring Wright on for.
As for the new trailer itself, I like seeing some of the supporting cast show up (OMG ITS APRIL PLAYING JULIE POWERS!!), but they really could have made it a five second clip of "Lesbian...Lesbians?" to demonstrate that the foundational comedy is still very much intact.

Define 'slutty'. The Evil Exes are presented in chronological order (starting with schoolyard one-week fling and ending with the time before she entered Scott's life), and they mostly function as a way of showing how Ramona consistently acts in relationships.

Well... i don't know if that would be the proper word. I don't know much of the character really, just didn't get a positive vibe out of her after reading the comcis summary and her list of Exes
Ramona's Evil Exes
Matthew Patel is Ramona's first evil ex-boyfriend. He is Indian and has mystical powers and can summon "Demon Hipster (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hipster_%28contemporary_subculture%29) Girls" at will. Scott gets $2.10 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Role-playing_game_%28video_games%29#Items_and_inventory ) for defeating him.
Lucas Lee is Ramona's second evil ex-boyfriend, a pro skateboarder (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skateboarder) turned movie star (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Movie_star) (and a "sell out (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sell_out)"). Scott gets $14 in coins and a mithril (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mithril) skateboard (that he can't use since he lacks a skateboarding proficiency (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Character_class) ) for defeating him. He is named after pro skateboarder turned actor Jason Lee (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_Lee_%28actor%29).
Todd Ingram is Ramona's third evil ex-boyfriend. He is a bass player for The Clash At Demonhead. He has special "vegan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vegan)-based" psychic powers (although he is secretly consuming non-vegan foods). Personality-wise, he is incredibly arrogant, narcissistic, and uncaring, as well as a liar. He dates Envy, his childhood love, but cheats on her repeatedly with Lynette, the band's drummer, as well as with other girls. Scott gets some money (again in coins) plus an extra life (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1-up) when he defeats him.
Roxanne "Roxie" Richter is Ramona's fourth evil ex, an ex-girlfriend, and her former college (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/College) roommate (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roommate). She is a "half-ninja (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ninja)" and an accomplished fine artist, who taught Ramona much of what she knows in terms of her ninja abilities and subspace. Roxie has an inferiority complex (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inferiority_complex) over her "half-ninja" background, as well as her figure (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_image). She claims Scott is a "pussy" who refuses to fight his own battles, prompting Scott to finally mature (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Role-playing_game_%28video_games%29#Experience_and_leve ls) in his relationship with Ramona, gaining a sword and "The Power of Love". When defeated by Scott, she explodes into a cascade of woodland creatures, a reference to Sonic the Hedgehog (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonic_the_Hedgehog_%28series%29).
Kyle & Ken Katayanagi are Ramona's fifth and sixth evil ex-boyfriends, a pair of Japanese twins (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twins) who often finish each other's sentences. The pair are 'expert roboticists' who summon robots to fight Scott. They vowed to work together closely once the pair realized Ramona had been cheating on them with each other. The twins capture Kim Pine to lure Scott to them, pointing out in the meantime that Kim may still be in love with Scott. Scott defeats them and gets $79.95 for Ken, $74.95 for Kyle, and a $2 twins bonus (again all in coins) after defeating them. He also unlocks an achievement (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_live#Gamerscore) for defeating them simultaneously.
Gideon Gordon Graves is the leader of the League of Ramona's Evil Ex-Boyfriends and suggested to be Ramona's boyfriend previous to Scott, in New York City. He is mentioned several times throughout the series, but never seen fully until the end of Volume 3. He is the owner of "The Chaos Theater" (A reference to EarthBound), in NYC and "GGG Heavy Industries," which is opening "Chaos Theater Toronto". Ramona has also "worked" for him previously, though her work is implied to be sexual in some way, and he eventually makes contact with Scott. There is also a small cat living at Ramona's house by the same name. He is set to appear in the final volume.

I'd prescribe a dose of actually reading the comics (they are pretty fantastic, all things considered) and cracking open a thesaurus the next time you want to use the word slutty but aren't really sure if it fits (I've found that most instances of its use usually don't).

Things that just hit me with that commercial.
Brandon Routh's recent Chuck appearances have me really excited to see him play a douchebag again.
Chris Evans nonchalantly-evil gruff is great. And this may be just the Arrested Development nerd in me, but he sounds very Will Arnett/GOBish, which is always great.
I know the bread gag is straight from the comics, but the way Cera played it made it sound like the perfect ad-lib.

Behold as I step in and mediate a dispute that no one asked or wanted me to, as I, hearing the potential for injustice, must indeed step forward and interfere! And probably irritate both parties! (Sorry in advance, if I do, it's not really intended!) For great JUSTICE!
I'd prescribe a dose of actually reading the comics (they are pretty fantastic, all things considered) and cracking open a thesaurus the next time you want to use the word slutty but aren't really sure if it fits (I've found that most instances of its use usually don't).
As there were no results in the thesaurus, I went to the dictionary. Note: I've left out a number of meanings of each of the words, and emphasized some things, however that's to a) save time/space on anyone reading this (as are the swap tags - the definitions are rather bloated) and b) make the point more obvious: that she does, in fact, seem more slutty with each "boyfriend" on her list.

Medical Dictionary
pro·mis·cu·ous definition
Pronunciation: /pr?-?mis-ky?-w?s/
Function: adj
: not restricted to one sexual partne
First, I'd like to note, that this is only apparent "sluttiness", not definative sluttiness - I'm not argueing that she is a slut, only that she could be taken to be.
How does she seem slutty? Well, as things slowly progress the number of her boyfriends is impressive (but, hey, at least it's not eleven!). But more, it starts with Roxanne. The implication is that she was curious, sure, but didn't really love Roxanne, and used her for her own means, "selling" her body (without saying so) in an unworthy manner. Kyle and Ken - simultaneously - means that she was being (apparently) promiscuous - having more than one partner simultaneously (promiscuity being part of the definition of slut). Gideon was apparently trading sexual favors for business ones - very prostitutish (and thus slutty).
To Conclude: Lumenskir, considering you were talking to someone who does not speak English as his native language, I believe you owe him an apology, as Bells seemed to be using "slutty" better than you! If you wish to argue that it's a misconception, however, that's totally valid (at least from what I know), although even then, one of the themes of the book, to my understanding, is that she considers herself to be a slut and a "bad person". You're a pretty smart guy, but Bells seems to have been completely justified in his perception.
ALL THAT SAID:
DUDE, this movie looks awesome! I'm excited to see it, even though originally I didn't know if I would be. The comedic timing seems spot on, with enough "out there" moments being totally accepted in-world, that I'm highly impressed. Thank you, Living Bobbeh, for not only making this thread (putting Scott Pilgrem on my radar at all) but also for the YouTube links!

Lumenskir, considering you were talking to someone who does not speak English as his native language, I believe you owe him an apology
How does she seem slutty? Well, as things slowly progress the number of her boyfriends is impressive (but, hey, at least it's not eleven!).
'Impressive'? What, for a girl? Leaving aside the nebulous seriousness of some of the 'boyfriends' (again, the first one was for a week and a half and they barely even kissed (Ramona's words)), how is the fact that she's dated (not serially fucked, actually had some form of relationship with) seven guys a part of your sluttiness calculus?
Gideon was apparently trading sexual favors for business ones - very prostitutish (and thus slutty).
The implication is that she was curious, sure, but didn't really love Roxanne, and used her for her own means, "selling" her body (without saying so) in an unworthy manner.
"Selling her body without saying so"...I'll say, seeing as she (and the entire comic) never even hints that anything remotely like prostitution occurred. Again, actually reading something beyond a Wiki-blurb would have cleared this up (and been a lot more enjoyable), but she did actually did just go through a phase with Roxanne (they were roommates, she was teaching Ramona the quirks of her job, their lesbian fling seems like an outgrowth of that), and we don't know much of anything about Gideon, but there haven't been any hints that 'business' came into it (the most we have is her dream of being submissive to Gideon and Envy's vague hints that Ramona inflated her relationship status).
Also, I love 'an unworthy manner'. The personal choices she made were 'unworthy'...ok.
But really, this is all mostly explained by clearing up one misconception-
one of the themes of the book, to my understanding, is that she considers herself to be a slut and a "bad person"
She might consider herself a bad person/unworthy, but mostly because she has committment issues that being in proximity to Scott is making her work out. Again, these were all relationships, not random hookups. Maybe if the main thrust of the book was "You have to defeat my seven worst one-night stands, all of them from the past week" you might have some ground to stand on, but these are seven guys spread over 10+ years. The books make the point of showing how Ramona and Scott's relationship is a growing process for both parties: Scott is maturing, while Ramona is forced to confront some of her issues that prevent her from connecting with someone.
Has she done things that are wrong? Of course, with cheating on the twins being the most prominent...although that revelation came at the same time it was revealed that Scott had started dating her while also dating Knives. However, some of the things you label as wrong (like her not returning Roxanne's love equally) are better explained with committment issues (she had trouble feeling the same amount of attraction and began to drift away) than 'sluttiness' (she was...selling herself...for no money or tangible benefits). To label her a slut is just using a really broad brush to obscure the individual trees of her character and...another metaphor.
Now, with all that being said, I'm not against the word slut, just that you can't (or at least shouldn't) throw it around based on a Wiki-article. The old one of Sex and the City, the one who rubs yams on her vagina so she can sleep with a different guy every night with no emotional connection, yeah, that's an easier thing to label as slutty with little detective work. But just seeing that a girl has had seven boyfriends, without knowing anything beyond that, isn't a proper basis for thinking she's slutty, in fiction or real life. Now you know, and Knowledge Is Power!
ACTUALLY TALKING ABOUT THE MOVIE NOW
Ok, fine, you're absolutely great as Wallace, Culkin, no need to rub it in with these great line readings (P.S. I am absolutely kidding, keep at it).
Also, gotta love the VS. graphic. The only thing better would have been boss subtitles. And its good to see that they weren't afraid to differ from the comic in regards to fights. I loved the anti-climaxiness of the Lee fight in the book, but going with the "fights and musical numbers" motif means you need to (expertly) beef up or tweak some of them.

Maybe? I don't think I've played a game like that (well, there's that fight in God of War, but maybe you have a better example in mind?).
Personally, I like it better as a continuation of the Lee-as-sellout theme...although, to be honest, I never really got the connection (that seems to be accepted/confirmed(?)) between Jason Lee (real) and Lucas (comic). I guess because my first exposure to Jason was through Kevin Smith movies and not his skateboarding work. I dunno. Still love Chris Evans overly gruff bad guy growl.

I am quite excited for this movie...
When I found out it was being made in to a movie and having heard of but not read the series I immediately went to Amazon and bought the first four books...and read them all in less than a day...then went right out to buy the 5th one almost as soon as I finished. So yeah I literally became a huge fan overnight.
I am quite pleased with what I have seen...I'm still on the fence about Wallace though...in one thing he seemed good but in another he didn't...maybe it was just how the trailers or TV spots were edited...
Anyways I am anticipating quite the good time from this film!

Just from my own experience, I didn't really get a deep impression of Wallace until the actual movie clip. Sure, it's just two lines, but he does them pretty perfectly.

Yeah, all this movie talk is almost making me forget that we'll finally get the sixth book in July. I'm always tempted to pull out book 1 and do another series-so-far readthrough, but I want to save it for when I have book 6 in hand so its seamless.
And speaking of the comics (and because I was just thinking of it and need to while away some time), does anyone have an opinion on which book is their favorite? I think I've narrowed it down to 3 having my favorite plot and fight(s), but 4 having almost all of my top ten jokes/lines.

First gameplay trailer of the game. (http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-2010-scott-pilgrim/101185[/url)
Features dinosaurs and faux-rock band.
The guitar hero bit made me laugh!

Welp, I'm pretty sold on the game now.
For once, A game based on a movie(based on a book) that doesn't suck!
It helps that the source material has video game influences out the ass.
Yeah, this actually looks pretty fantastic. I saw the trailer for the Brave and the Bold game recently and that seemed a little wonky. This looks smooth and clean and god I want to play it RIGHT NOW.

An IGN Article (http://uk.xboxlive.ign.com/articles/109/1096379p1.html) (of all places) about the game.
Another fun one is holding down the heavy attack button to perform a taunt. Okay, seen that before. But if two players get close and both taunt, they will whip out instruments and start playing a song. Get all four players together and you rock out with a full performance, laying the thunder down on nearby enemies. It's wild stuff that fits perfectly into what a Scott Pilgrim fan would expect, but which will probably surprise (or shock) and hopefully delight newcomers.

Hi, my name is Arcanum, and I'm Scott Pilgrim fan. Whew now that the awkward introduction is over let's get down to business.
New gameplay trailer (http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-2010-scott-pilgrim/101460) for the game. Pretty much same stuff as the other trailer, only now with bold words giving some exposition and stuff.

The tracklist for the official soundtrack for the movie has been released, and oh man it's pretty awesome. (http://pitchfork.com/news/39213-beck-broken-social-scene-play-fake-bands-on-iscott-pilgrimi-soundtrack/)
01 SEX BOB-OMB (Beck): "We Are SEX BOB-OMB"
02 Plumtree: "Scott Pilgrim"
03 Frank Black: "I Heard Ramona Sing"
04 Beachwood Sparks: "By Your Side"
05 Black Lips: "O Katrina!"
06 Crash and the Boys (Broken Social Scene): "I'm So Sad, So Very, Very Sad"
07 Crash and the Boys (Broken Social Scene): "We Hate You Please Die"
08 SEX BOB-OMB (Beck): "Garbage Truck"
09 T. Rex: "Teenage Dream"
10 The Bluetones: "Sleazy Bed Track"
11 Blood Red Shoes: "It's Getting Boring by the Sea"
12 Metric: "Black Sheep"
13 SEX BOB-OMB (Beck): "Threshold"
14 Broken Social Scene: "Anthems for a Seventeen-Year-Old Girl"
15 The Rolling Stones: "Under My Thumb"
16 Beck: "Ramona (Acoustic)"
17 Beck: "Ramona"
18 SEX BOB-OMB (Beck): "Summertime"
19 Brian LeBarton: "Threshold 8 Bit"
I had heard a rumor that Metric would be playing as Clash at the Demonhead, but I guess that would have been too awesome to be true? I remember them playing Black Sheep (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obV-OL3TwXo) in concert before Fantasies came out, and I was surprised they didn't include it on the actual album, but I'll gladly take it on the soundtrack.
Also, I hope they actually use Anthems for a Seventeen Year Old Girl in the movie, it's definitely one of the greatest modern love songs (edged out slightly by Lover's Spit, but still great) and should be included into more things.

I thought I read that the soundtrack was going to be a double disk deal? I guess not now. Added that to the first page.
Also added was the achievements (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/scott-pilgrim-vs-the-world/achievements/) for the video game:
New Challenger 10
Defeat Matthew Patel without losing a life.
Twin Dragons 10
Defeat the Twins simultaneously.
Dirty Trick 10
Defeat an enemy by throwing an object at him while he’s already down.
Invulnerable 10
Play through a World and reach the boss without getting hit.
Get The Girl 10
Clear the game once with Scott.
The Power Of Friendship 20
In a multiplayer game, reanimate another player at least 25 times.
Gourmet 20
Eat every food items.
Vigilante 20
Defeat all enemies in a World, excluding the boss.
One Man Army 20
Clear the game in single player on the “Supreme Master” difficulty setting.
Shopaholic 20
Buy all the items of a shop.
Armed And Dangerous 20
Defeat at least 200 enemies using interactive objects.
“Chaudown” 30
Unlock and call all strikers.
The achievements seem a bit uninspired. I was hoping for: "If your life had a face..." Punch Scott in the face as Kim Pine as a secret achievement.

The best part of the game is that the art is done by Paul Robertson.
I love his art. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ll5qW9_ex0g)

I'm working through the third comic right now, damn this is good stuff. Looking forward to the movie too. I think I'll consciously not look into the game so it can try and surprise me.

Nope, not yet. It was due out today in the UK but play.com, who I ordered from three months ago, chose to only send it out yesterday. Lazy gits.

normally I'd be pessimistic, but this looks so awesomely campy. I was worried they'd try to take the premise too seriously but they instead just run with it. I love it. I might even break my "no theater" rule for this one

Right, news round-up. Firstly, there's this series of remixes (http://theplaylist.blogspot.com/2010/07/future-like-with-jetpacks-complete.html) by Osymyso. They're pretty neat.
There's also this short clip (http://uk.movies.ign.com/dor/objects/844517/scott-pilgrim-vs-the-world/videos/scott_pil072210.html) from Scott's encounter with Todd Ingram. In the grand scheme things, it's not that interesting on it's own.
IGN have made a video preview (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S65GtrVg_4M) of the game. It shows a couple of the striker characters and generally more art.
Anamanaguchi released the track "1-1" for the video game, dubbed "Another Winter". You can listen to it here (http://radiomaru.com/2010/07/13/brand-new-anamanaguchi-track/)

Just got home from seeing it.
It's probably the best movie I've seen all year, maybe even a couple years. It was consistently funny. It didn't totally follow the comic, but we all knew it wouldn't, but did enough with the source material. It's worth a see.

I was all set to watch the movie today, but it turns out it's not released in Sweden until the 24th. September. It's like they want us to pirate it. :(

The German release is next year. I sure hope that makes you feel better because it sure as hell doesn't do that for me. And then I'd have to watch it in German.
I could now commence an epic rant on how they'll dub it, because everything has to be dubbed and that will take all the fun out of the movie. Because, fuck. Is it so hard to release a subtitled version for cool people? I'll stop now, because If I went on I'd end up blaming it on some kind of international conspiracy which is all about suckng the joy out of my life.

Wow, that sucks on so many more levels than my situation. But on the bright side you have a good excuse to skip on the theater going experience in favor of importing a DVD from an English-speaking country. Which will probably be out before the movie hits Deutschland.
