I've been reading the comic over the last few years, and it's always given me something to smile about, rain or shine. I know that it must be hard to continue working on something that you cannot readily make money off of, but I must say, you've done a fantastic job with 8-bit theater. I've become an avid reader of yours, and I look forward to see what you do with your other works in progress (I've been enjoying Atomic Robo, HIKYM, and Warbot quite a bit.)
I thought it would be nice to have a thank you thread now that it seems that 8-bit theater is truly over (though there may be another page in the works.)
Thank you for all of the hard work you've put into 8-bit, Brian. Once again, I look forward to what you have in store for us in the future.
I want to thank Brian too. The comic is one of the best in the history of mankind.
(Never mind that Brian is probably gonna hate this thread with all passion, since his declared goal is to piss us off, not to make us smile happily and thank him... It's "Realworld-Fighter-Girl-Gainax-Ending" all over again.)

I to wish to thank you Brian. You are a great writer Mr. Clevinger, and I will be sure to try and pick up Atomic Robo when I find a book store that carries it.

Thank you, sir. While it saddens me to see the end of a comic that I have read fairly loyally for about 5 years now, I want to thank you for all the laughs that you have provided me. I'm not lying when I say that 8-Bit Theater has gotten me through some of the awkward nerdy phases of puberty, and at this point I turned myself into a reasonable facsimile of a functioning member of society. So without any sarcasm I say again, thanks.
Unless the ending is a trick and you're actually going to continue it, in which case I withdraw everything I just said.

Awesome job, Brian. You kept giving us this comic even at the expense of more profitable ventures. You are one class act, and I will always be grateful. Naturally I will be expressing that gratitude by buying Atomic Robo comics! :)

Me too man. What a great comic. I have been reading almost since the inception, with a brief break only to be catching up back when they got the class change. The "it is time to become legendary" panel is still my all-time favorite.

Yeah I don't think 8-Bit Theater's going to go on anymore, except for maybe an epilogue strip or two.

Thank you so much, Mr. Clevinger. You've inspired me to try and become a better writer and to do something that makes people happy. Binging through the archives has been one of the things that has actually made me happy this week and that really means a lot to me. You are, without a doubt, my favorite writer.
I like to think a little slice of 8-Bit Theater will live on. Not on our Tuesday's or Saturday's, but on our Thursday's.

Can I get away with 'Ditto'? I don't think I can. Darn...
I think I discovered this comic around nine years ago, somewhere around #20. It took less than an hour to get caught up, but I've been hooked ever sense. Every week, I've looked forward to 8-bit Theater. The jokes told in it have been things I've repeated for friends and some strangers. As I write this, I look at one of Matt Speroni's 8-bit inspired images as the wallpaper on my 2nd monitor. The point I'm getting at is that 8-bit Theater has been more than just an entertaining web comic. It's become something more, a piece of my life. My very soul....or maybe I'm just messin' with ya! ;-)
No, really...thank you for your work. May it go down in history as one of our era's great pieces of literature.

Well, I finally decided to play the Final Fantasy series, particularly the first one, because of this comic. I chose the iPhone port of the PSP version.
I had originally intended to follow the strategy laid out in this comic. However, that doesn't seem to fit the results. My strategy, throw Thief at it. If that doesn't work, have Black Mage hadoken it.
8 Bit theater made me realize that Final Fantasy isn't just an awesome game. It's an awesome game that makes a kickass sprite comic.
To celebrate the awesomeness that is 8bittheater, I'd like to share a song with you, that just PERFECTLY goes with about 85% of this comic:

There needs to be some sort of 8-bit tribute.
...
I mean, something other than a 900k-post forum. Perhaps a short video, chronicling the journey, both in-comic and real-life.
I'd make it, but I have absolutely no experience at making movies. Still, perhaps I can come up with some more ideas on how to structure it.

Yeah, I don't know where I started but it was somewhere around Otakon 2001, well before strip 100, and it's been a staple of killing 30 seconds to a minute three days a week since. So thank you, Brian! My only regret is never going to meet you at any event despite having lived in Orlando for 5 years now.
Is 1224 really the end or do you have another strip or two left? I can't think of any loose ends left, but I think we'd all like to see Fighter stabbed in the brain one last time, and a "The End" where Fighter isn't a woman in bed from istockphoto.com.

Jesus Christ I spent seven years reading a sprite comic.
8 years and about 5 months for me. And you know what? I don't feel bad for it. What I feel bad about is that it's ending. 8BT has been a reliable, stable weekly activity for most of my adult life. Knowing that every M/W/F, then later (for most of the run in fact) T/Th/Sa, I could tune in for a few moments of funny as BM does something offensive, Red Mage has a stupid plan, Fighter says something obvlious, and Thief suffers this all while robbing the world blind (and somestimes all four of those at once) help me get through some rough times. With that gone... well I don't need it anymore but it was nice to know it was there.
Ah well, all things must end eventually. At least my fears of not having other work by Clevinger still in production are no longer valid. Including a few things on this very site. So the routien of checking of NP.com for new content continues.
Thank you Brian, I've been reading since the Dwarf arc (I think the exact comic was the full page spread of the dwarf village incineration)
It was a fun ride, and I hope you had as much fun making them and toying with our minds.

Dear Brian,
Thank you for creating a comic which attracted that guy who failed at basic English skills and typed out really weird fanfics.

Nearly the end of a decade of insane ramblings of four "adventurers". From what we could learn from the story it has been quite a ride, but nonetheless enjoyable. Good things have to come to an end in order for other endeavors to prosper. Though you may not see much monetary gain from doing a sprite comic, what it has done has helped you improve and do more with your life, to which should open more doors of opportunities in the future.
Congrats on what success you have already gained and let 8 bit slip into the pages of internet history as you continue to deliver things like HIKYM, Warbot and Robo.
Thanks for the 9 years of entertainment so far, cheers to seeing more.

I don't even remember when I started reading, but I know it wasn't nearly as long as some of these other people. I am so happy to have followed this, though, and all of your other projects. Thank you greatly and good luck with everything you ever do, ever.

I created an account just to toss my hat into the thank you pile. I started reading in 2001 thanks to my friend in our Integrated Software class back in 9th grade. This has by far been my favorite web comic, it's also the first that really got me to recognize the concept of web comics. I too have the fond memories of the M-W-F schedule before it changed to T-Th-S. I mean, my icon that I used as my forum avatar I've been using as my AIM buddy icon since the comic where Black Mage used all the cheesy pickup lines on White Mage FOR 9 YEARS. Thanks to you, I can never change my buddy icon or forum avatars (I also use it in TF2).
Whenever I suggested this comic to someone I always show them my favorite one, King Steve's Theatre - New Shoes: http://www.nuklearpower.com/2003/12/23/king-steve-theater-new-shoes/
To this day, that one still cracks me up. So the only thing left to say is thanks man, for the years of work having made 8-bit easily one of the best, and most consistently funny web comics out there. Good luck on your future endeavors.
Forgive me sire. Your wisdom is eternal.

I wasn't there at the start, but I guess hopping aboad when it was only 40 chapters old is close enough. I liked it so much, I immediately started spreading it around to my friends. :D
8 bit was one of the only good sprite comics, and it was one of the truely great webcomics of any kind, period. I can say with confidence that it never got boring, never disappointed, and never remotely "jumped the shark".. And good for Brian for ending it on his own terms, instead of trying to extend it's life and just let it fizzle out, like a lot of good comics do...
I do hope he'll maybe consider doing something with King Steve and Sara once in awhile? *Hint hint*

Well, like so many others, I appreciate the time put into 8-Bit. It is a masterpiece, unparalleled in it's genre (sprite comics) and, in my opinion, only matched by a precious few overall. Even though I would love to see 8-Bit continue on forever (somehow), as long as you don't completely abandon comedy I'll be content. I guess it has to end sometime, but it feels to me like there is still so much story left to tell. I would not have called the last comic, as an ending, a cop out, but I am glad it is not the end, because it still feels like something is lacking. I'm sure you won't disappoint (or if you do, I'm sure it'll be satisfying in a fuck-you-Brian-you're-such-a-bastard sort of way).

My friend and I used to go out on walks and hang out, joke about the latest 3 strips or so as the joke or instance seems to last about that, then we started going out and juggling metal whips and flails while talking about it. From the very start I think you deserve 100% of the credit for swordchucks as the idea of using gyrespikes from dnd or pommels from the jian would not have prompted me, what did was the creative presentation of the concept and the fan base. Thank you =]

This is dumb and more than a little histrionic. Pardon my brusqueness.
I anticipate your angry replies and do not care for them. I hope this will not be considered flaming.
Brian, you've done what I've wanted to do. What so many folk have tried to do and failed miserably. You went the distance. You pulled a damn Rocky.
You made a joke into an epic story that had some very sad points in it, that were heartfelt, it had jokes that were hilarious, action that was epic. Giants, fencing, fighting, true love...er... intense boob-desiring.
Despite any criticism I've ever thrown out, I do consider this a masterpiece. I'm eternally biased to this out of the rest of your work, I hope you can always remember how many people you enraptured with this.

As long as you take the same approach to Game Overs as Fighter has towards being stabbed in the head (i.e., shrugging it off / not noticing it at all), you'll be fine.
I don't really have anything to add that hasn't been said already. Thank you, Brian.

As another newcomer (2 years almost), I also want to thank Brian for the entertainment. It is a fantastic collection.
I can't wait for a prequel series that completely ruins and destroys my view of this world. Whether it is done with unrealistic up-to-date (for 2030) special effects as 2048-Bit Theater or as a more proper 1-Bit Theater (starring PONG!), I wait to see.

Been reading since almost the very beginning of the strip - about when the voting out of white mage was happening. It's been and remained my favourite webcomic ever since. I still and always will go through the archives at random points and laugh every single goddamn time.
It's sad that there'll never be another webcomic I'll enjoy as much as 8-bit, but it had to end some time. Thanks Brian, you horrible human being, for everything.
Haha, even to the very end Brian jerks us around. :P
'Epilogue to be posted some time in the future maybe'. I wonder how many people would stop checking the site for updates if there was a 100% guarantee that no new episodes would ever be posted. I know I still keep checking each Saturday.

More to the point, "I'm not sure what some of you are looking for in more pages, but I can just about promise you won't find it in anything I have to add." I wonder how many people would have gotten this far had he posted that warning when he started 8BT like he should have.
Seriously though, it's been a great ride, and while I didn't start reading it until about 4 years ago, catching up really helped me get though a deployment.
I also want to you thank you Brian, for the work that you've put into a comic that I've spent literally years of my life following. This comic made a lot of days better throughout high school and college; and when I enlisted in the Army and was going through BCT/AIT I felt better by counting the number of 8bit episodes that I was going to get to read as soon as they let us have internet back.
So thank you very much again for all the good years!

Thank you Brian! It's been a great ride. I can't even remember how I found your comic or who linked me to it, it's been that long. And so much has happened since then... I never expected I'd end up following this thing all the way through the whole FF story. I've been so impressed to see that little sprite comic I used to check in college become a genuinely successful website, and your work winning awards. Congrats on finally wrapping it all up!
Oh, there's one other thing I should thank you for. In an indirect way, 8-bit is partly responsible for my marriage. (yes, that is a good thing. At least it seems that way so far, going on five years) Cause when I first met my husband, I thought he was kind of weird and didn't get to know him too well until we found out we both like 8-bit and had something fun to talk about together. ...I mean, we found other stuff to talk about too, we're not total nerds or anything, (okay we are) but I distinctly remember having a big chat about the nature of chaos and the ethics of Black Mage, and that being the first serious conversation we'd ever had with each other.

Your comic helped me through countless crappy days, it never failed to put a smile on my face.
I remember back in 2003... Instead of using the school computers to work on my assingments .. I spent all the time reading your awesome comic. I also remember quoting fighter ALL THE TIME ! (back then he was my favorite character .... nowadays you can easily tell wich one it is).
Whenever someone asked something I didn't know, my answer was "I like swords"

Honestly, the reason I'm dying for the epilogue of 8-Bit more than anything else I've ever read is probably the length of time I've been reading it.
I started reading 8-Bit back in 7th (or 8th?) grade when I was still too young to legally join most internet forums, and here I am, about 7 years later, watching something I've been following for so long come to an end. Even though 8-Bit is a webcomic, I still see it as one of the most entertaining narratives (and probably the longest) I've ever really seen. After following these characters and becoming emotionally invested in their asshole tendencies for so long, I'm just dying to get at least some sort of closure.
Plus, 8-Bit was a huge inspiration for me to be creative back in the day. It (and other sprite comics) opened my eyes to the fact that comics and such could make people laugh, and I spent alot of my free time in those early teenage years drawing and writing to entertain my fellow classmates and anyone else who'd read. Back then 8-Bit was a huge source of entertainment and inspiration for a couple of my other friends as well. The fact that it's still going today just inspires me even more, especially since I have a terrible knack for not finishing projects.
So like everyone else said in this thread, thanks a million for making me laugh and inspiring me for the last few years. Being a writer as well, the fact that you could keep this going for so long and get so many people to follow it and beg for an ending really gets to me. I hope the doors that are opening for you now lead you somewhere great.

I would be remiss in not adding my thanks to the list. Been reading this since late 2001 and each comic brought me so much joy, and I'm afraid it has shaped my perspective on life and humor; like a head wound but with less skull throbbing.
So thank you Brian, for 9 amazing years.
