At first, I really thought this was an April Fools joke and they just got it going a day earlier, but apparently it isn't?

How is This going to a movie? I don't understand!

And Val Kilmer looks like he put on a few pounds eh.

You're a little late to the party, Val Kilmer's been fat for years.

Man, I haven't seen a shot of him in Years, I didn't even recognize him and went who the hell is that? It's almost like Travolta. Then found out it was Kilmer and laughed.

I'm glad I was late to another party though!

The only thing cooler than being fashionably late is blowing off the party because you had "stuff" to do.

Back to the movie, MacGruber might actually be a funny movie.

It looks fantastically stupid, or stupidly fantastic, I don't know.
I have no idea what it's based on except apparently Wiki says this is an SNL so, huh. Well, as someone entirely unfamiliar with it, it looks... yeah.
Unless this is one of those 'All the funny bits are in the trailer' movies, which seems to be the case since the trailer happens to highlight the beginning, middle, and end of the movie. Still, it looks like a decent summer-type movie.

...What's a MacGruber?

MacGruber is an SNL sketch where, as far as I can see, the following formula is followed:
There is a funny rock intro song, usually introducing MacGruber as a poor man's MacGyver in an epitomized fashion or with a problem such as financial ones.
Switch to MacGruber, a dude, and a chick locked in a room with a bomb. The dude and chick are by the door, telling MacGruber to do something before the bomb explodes. MacGruber only has 5-20 seconds depending on how long the sketch is. Someone does something incompetent, usually MacGruber.
They explode.

If the movie wants to be truly fantastic, it will end with a shot of the nuclear bomb exploding and killing everyone ever.

The Homer Simpson version of MacGyver?

He would ask for ordinary items to disable a bomb but run out of time because he's a moron and the thing would blow up. That's the like 3 minute sketch.

There were 2009 super bowl commerical's from pepsi featuring him. It really makes no sense to be a movie.

How many SNL sketches really lend themselves to longform (movie format v. sketches), and has that ever stopped them?

They even made a Coneheads movie, after all. A Coneheads movie!

Coneheads!

It's a goddamn sketch that was only funny because it was a 3 minute parody of Macgyver! a 1 1/2 parody is idiotic? It was funny cause he asked from stupid things, got distracted, then boom thing blew up. And it wasn't funny after the 2nd sketch because you knew what would happen. I'm just so...I don't know...I feel disappointed and let down this shit gets made. By the people who did Shaun of the Dead of all things...I'm so sad now.

If SNL did something like short films (10-30 min features) instead, it could probably work a lot better. As it is, all the good jokes are in the trailer, and then you have to watch a fat Val Kilmer so... bleh.

I think they just wanted to make a MacGyver parody movie and decided to use a preexisting parody for the nostalgia market. You know. For the... unusually tiny nostalgia market.

I don't know I kind of see this as a script that someone did as a dare, like, "Extend a sketch into a whole movie in 30 days or else you'll have to eat this dog".

Did we really believe Wayne's World could be made into two feature-length films, though? And look how that turned out! (cue cheers or groans)
