A few questions:
1. Did the royal guard ever manage to kill the messenger?
2. What font did Brian use for this comic?
Okay... I guess it was only two questions.

1. Not that I recall.
2. ACME Explosive, I think it's not available anymore but ACME Secret Agent (http://blambot.com/font_acmesa.shtml) is 99% the same.

Can't remember anymore exact episodes but Royal Elite Guard Hank and Messenger was last seen when Princess Sara first ordered Messenger to deliver something to elves and then she ordered Hank to kill Messenger. Whether he succeeded is unknown.

There was one comic where Hank sneaks up on him and yanks him away. I don't think there are any loose ends left.

She ordered Hank to make sure that the messenger was captured so that the elves would get the false plan and be at a disadvantage. I assume that they both died in the war.

Okay one more question.
How did Brian make those nifty speech balloons in Photoshop?
I know there was a tutorial posted in here at one point, but it seems long gone. Does anyone remember, or have a link?

I do indeed remember.
He used circle select to make the shape of the balloon, then he added on a polygonal selection of a triangle where it's pointing.
Then edit>Fill with foreground color.
Then edit>Stroke selection.

Not the way Brian does it, but the way I do it, which I cribbed from his descriptions anyway.
1. Type and format your text.

2. Select the speech bubble-to-be around it. You want to do this in a new layer.

3. Use polygonal lasso to give the speech bubble a nice pointer. Fill in.

4. Use Layer Effects > Stroke for an outline. Move either text or speech bubble layer until they line up properly.

Design tip: You'll want to make any connections between speech bubbles as straight a line as possible, but that's no problem with the polygonal lasso either.
