THA RULEZZZZ
1) Images must be within 300x125 250 x 110 pixels.
2) Images should be under 75 KB.
3) We'll be cycling through several images for the logo so please provide a version with words and a version without words, so that we may make them all look the same and get an idea of what they'll look like as a finished product.
4) This contest will run about a week or so. Let's say around 12am CST (EST -1) on April 27.
Unofficial Rule 5) Save the logos as a .png for convenience.
e: See here (http://www.nuklearforums.com/showpost.php?p=1033291&postcount=15) for some updates and amendments.
An example of a proper submission-

In case someone wants some resources to use for banners, here are some characters I pulled onto transparency, grabbed from the other thread.
Figure I'll throw in some resources in case there IS gonna be a newly made banner or something.
Warbot! Alone! On transparency!

Wong! With the same words describing it as before!
http://www.ngamesrpgs.com/files/wongalone.png
And hey! It's that person who beats up Wong!
http://www.ngamesrpgs.com/files/fangalone.png
This one is admittedly a bit awkward, since she was originally propping herself up, but to have Wong's disembodied head floating there would have been a bit odd.
Edit: Oh yeah, and a banner. Gonna need to shave two pixels off of it, but I'll do that in the morning.

This stuff can be derivative of stuff from the site (like a comic panel) right, like the ones in that other topic?

I'd think that's the idea, rather than having a pastry themed banner. :P
Though, I am totally willing to accept that I'm wrong about this, and make a banner centered around cupcakes or muffins*.

Dude.
Do this.

Here's what I came up with briefly as a couple examples (I'll put them in the first post as well.)

I like your last one.
Needlessly dreary:

Need to find a less-sucky font. And Warbot would be a good bit less depressing in color.
Edit: Pastry! (Beignets, master of all pastry)

Thanks. I didn't like my font choice in retrospect so I went and did something a little classier.

just an observation for now:
Floating images are akin to banners, like the ads we have at the top of the forum. On the other hand, a logo that blends with the background color or is made to look like it is attached to the background/coming out of it/floating over it/part of it would make for a better entry, in my opinion.
I guess what I am saying, to be more succinct, is give those some closure. Make it truly a part of the forum layout and not just a picture slapped to the top corner.
Were we designing a header or full-width image to span the top of forum pages, though, it'd be open for anything.

Here are my half-assed attempts. Maybe I'll try something real when I'm in the mood (never).

Another approach supposed to blend with the background. Dunno if it works or looks any good. 'cause now it looks like shit.

Normal version with only the color changed.
Damn, that second one looks like ass. What was I thinking?
EDIT: Dunno if it's possible, but I think it would be cool if the banner/logo thing could cycle through pictures every time the page is reloaded. Maybe one for each of Brian's projects.
EDIT2: And the muffins.
EDIT3: Nevermind, I just actually read the first post

Alright, I resized it to be within the REAL dimensions. Took me forever, because I completely blanked on the fact that the width is the first number, and height is the second! Because I'm stupid!

Cool!
I think by now we got some common design elements going on though, namely the caption style and featuring a character portrait looking to the right, and I'd hate to deviate from those. Do continue to post images you think would work for that, though; or if you've got a particularly awesome logo with its own design choices, we can put that into the rotation too.
(And if you're working on something like that, I'm gonna say let's stick to 250 (w) x 110 (h) too - 300 x 125 is a tiny bit too dominating on the site.)
For reference, here's what's up currently - we're still ironing out some kinks in the rotation so for now it's just the second one that actually shows up.

You did see the script I wrote up in the other thread to cycle through the images, right? It's somewhere mid-thread in the images salvaged from the old forum. Just figured I'd point it out, if you missed it.
While I'm pointing out things that were missed from the other thread, there were a few icons here (http://www.nuklearforums.com/showpost.php?p=1031552&postcount=62), and the thread locked "button" is on the last page. Sorry to commandeer the thread, just figured it was slightly related.
Edit: If I can give a design suggestion: Might be good to move the eight bit sprites over to the right a bit. The fact that Black Mage is -barely- touching the edge of the frame(Maybe? Hard to tell.) is a bit annoying. You always wanna over emphasize edges meeting, by either spacing them out far enough so that they are clearly separate, or make it so that they're clearly touching.
Edit II: http://www.nuklearforums.com/showpost.php?p=1032019&postcount=70 has the script.

Like these ones, are we gonna get a HIKYM one in the rotation too? Or is it gonna stick with those three?
Actually smiled when I saw snow coat wearing Robo up there earlier, cause I was hoping that one would get picked.

We've got a script in place and it's being tested currently. There are a few bugs & issues that are being ironed out.

Haven't yet found a good shot of Wong/had the time to edit one! Maybe I'll just snatch IG's third one from up there because it looks pretty fantastic.
synk came up with some good script ideas too, so we're going to try all those roughly in ascending order of complexity/usability. As for the 8-Bit logo, yeah posted like that the fade in-effect doesn't look as good as when they're up there in the logo space blending in with the site background, but I think it'll work in the end (if not, I can still make adjustments).

Just a quick heads up on those banners: They're still slightly off color from the background of the forum. I wouldn't notice, probably, but I took a screen cap of the forum to grab colors off of, and noticed that the background of the images and the background of the forum were very slightly off.

He's right.
I wouldn't have noticed if he hadn't said anything, but now that I've looked closer and noticed it I see it with even casual glances... bastard.
Also: I like the 'invisible' background, character/s on the left, and that same font working together for all the banners. If/when you do one for Wong it should be in the same style.
I'd do it, but I have less artistic skill than a coked up golden retriever.

Yeah. Not entirely sure what's up with that because I
- grabbed the colour from a screenshot of the forums with Photoshop's colour picker
- made extra sure the values were the same in the forum settings and in Photoshop
- made extra extra sure to lock that colour in the palette before saving as .png.
Got an idea or two that involve different colour modes, though. As soon as I start my next "screw with forum settings" session I'll look into that and I'm not stopping before it's either fixed or I know why we can't fix it.

...OR you COULD just make the background layer transparent. I'm pretty sure you can do that with photoshop.

Wong with transparency in four variations, you can see it's sloppily done but I had the file ready, so it took me five minutes to just cut that guy out. I don't have photoshop or some fancy pants thingy, though, so correcting my little mistake wasn't really possible.
That last one here is just me funning around after those five minutes. It didn't turn out as great as I had imagined it, but I figured I'd post it anyway. So you know what I was doing those OTHER five minutes. Doesn't have transparency, though.

darn it... i don't have access to the proper programs now, hope i'll have some before the deadline.
Just to be double sure about this... can i create a few of these themed towards the community, or should they all be centered around Brian's work?
And if Community themed is ok, are Yodadog and Parrot-Beard allowed?
Also, i understand you guys rather have PNG files, but Animated GIF's under 75Kb can be considered?

So this contest thing kind of fell by the wayside, but now we finally got the rotation script working!
Still gotta look into the colour thing though. While the difference is just about noticable in Firefox it looks really jarring in Internet Explorer. Gonna dick around in Photoshop a bit more, I suppose. Thanks for the transparent logos, those will probably help.
Please post any other problems you encounter with the logo rotation.
