View Full Version : Loose end?

Was there ever any explanation for what Dr. Swordopolis and Darko were actually up to? That is the one thing that I am left wondering about since the comic ended. Possibly they were just hallucinations that were without any relevance? Or were they trying to really work to lead the Light Warriors along this path so that Chaos would spawn and the Order of White Mages would take it out?
Or maybe they had entirely unrelated agendas that got delayed indefinitely when they both gave up because the people they were supposed to mentor were quite horribly incompetent. Any smart avatar would simply give up and Choose another One, someone more competent, and dump a "destiny" on him. And I think this is exactly what they did.
Someone in another thread said that Darko was basically trying to do to Black Mage what eventually happened to Sarda: Phlebotinum Overload him to the point where he could use the nexus of magic as a portal to bring Chaos into their dimension. Only BM got distracted by huge knockers... RM absorbed the datasphere, and Sarda ended up with the superpowered evil and the power of the orbs.
Swordopolis... I would assume was Darko's opposite number, trying to break Fighter out of his stupidity long enough to actually kill BM and prevent the summoning of Chaos. I think he gave up a long time ago, but we haven't heard ANYTHING out of either Darko OR Swordopolis in some time... don't know the exact count comic-wise.

All of that is correct.

Loose ends?
1. The ultimate fate of the characters, obviously.
2. Dragoon and the Golden Chocobo
3. The resolution of Swordopolis and Darko. Brian explained that above, but it hasn't been shown in the comic.
4. The guard and the messenger
5. The Real Light Warriors

Hold yer goddamn horses. (http://www.nuklearpower.com/2010/04/22/four-thangs/)
2. Dragoon and the Golden Chocobo
I've always thought it was strange how people latched on to these two.
3. The resolution of Swordopolis and Darko. Brian explained that above, but it hasn't been shown in the comic.
Uh, clearly it has. That's how the above poster knew what happened. He read it in the comic.
4. The guard and the messenger
Running. Running forever.
5. The Real Light Warriors
If history is any guide, they're probably failing to achieve their goals. And it's somehow the Lite Warriors' fault.

I think what everyone really wants to know is, why back in episode *mumblemumblesomethingnumber* where Fighter was thinking about the Jabberwocky poem (which I myself memorized in 8th grade Literature Class -- the poem, not the 8-bit comic), did his master look like his upgraded class? Clearly that's him from the future telling himself something in the past and therefore it's the time loop and Brian is both insane and misleading and a jerk.
Yes, that's the real mystery everyone cares about.

Brian actually explained this awhile ago. It was just the only available sprite at the time.

Well he didn't explain that to ME personally.
The only loose end I care about is White Mage's.
After Black Mage gets through gettin' his bone on with it.
That's what fan interest really boils down into an epilogue, watchin' some bone. Aw yeah.
I've always thought it was strange how people latched on to these two.
I figured it was because you have a history of subtly referencing things that happened earlier in the comic, and most people just connected 'Wait, so they're both on the moon and one can fly?'. Also, because Dragoon was a pretty hilarious and interesting character. He even took out one of the Fiends on his own and didn't have to share it with a Party Of Four like everyone else in the comic.
Obviously the best thing to do is pull a South Park and show the Gold Chocobo and Dragoon's corpses on the moon with the caption "There is no air on the moon. You jackasses.".

Yeah, putting the two of them on the moon 300 comics apart only to bring them both back in the end is just the kind of step-up we've come to expect from 8BT.
Kinda like the Armoire of Invincibility being needed to kill a vampire.
Or the Cave of No Return setup.
Or the Cure albums being introduced just so they can hurt Lich.
Wait, scratch that one.

Or some goofy kid that Black Mage kept traumatizing becoming an almighty dick

I just want to know how Fighter intended to use the 4 ultimate swords against Chaos. This I must know!
SWB
You've heard of Katamari Damacy? Fighter is the ball. The swords are the stuff stuck to the ball. Chaos is the poor dumb bastard the ball is getting rolled into.
Optionally: SOMETIMES THE LIGHT WARRIORS COME UP WITH PLANS THEY DIDN'T THINK THROUGH, ARE DESTINED TO FAIL OR FULL OF SUCK. (purely as conjecture I might speculate that this is the entire theme of the webcomic, it's a very subtle theme you see)

I'm thinking, swordchucks. I'm not sure where it would go from there, but of swordchucks, I am sure.

Yeah, but he said he had an idea how all the Light Warriors could use them. That doesn't imply Swordchucks to me.

I know the epilogue is coming Brian, I was just answering his question of what loose ends remain.

4. The guard and the messenger
I swear there's a comic where Hank sneaks up and grabs him while he's reporting to Sara or something, but I guess the messenger escaped.
We'll find it when the epilogue goes up and we all inevitably reread the entire comic from the start.

All of that is correct.
Whoa. Dr. Swordopolis was trying to have BM killed? Weird. Why not kill Sarda? Sarda turned out to be the real issue. If Dr. S wanted BM out of the way he would have known sex was the answer.

The answer isn't "Eeka Eeka Eeeek!"?

Sarda was essentially Fate's way of completing the circle. Since BM couldn't do all those things, overload on power, and become the portal for Chaos, Fate (or rather, Brian as Fate) conspired to make sure it happened anyway.
I don't think even Swordopolis could have predicted that Sarda would become the portal for Chaos. Hell, Swordopolis probably counted on Sarda's hatred of BM to eliminate the threat for him, after Fighter proved to be unusable.

Is anyone forgetting about the blue robed old man who took all of Fighter's money way back at the beginning? I smell Black Mage growing old, time travelling and fufilling the closed loop paradox that 'wasn't' suppose to happen.

Awesome, that was really the one loose end I was curious about too.

Something that always bothered me was:
The Enlightened Warrior bringing about the End of Days thing.
Also also what Bahamut meant when he said "Do you think he'll see this coming?" to Raven I believe it was.

The caused Chaos to come into the realm of the living, that seems like the "End of Days" to me. Doomsday prophecies always forget to check a few minutes after the "apocalypse".
Also, to Sarda maybe? Not sure on that one. Maybe Darko? Screwed him over by giving BM a suckish power?

I don't believe so. Both Bahamut and Muffin spoke the The Enlightened Warrior, and only muffin spoke of the Enlightened Warrior waking Bahamut to bring about the end of days. It sorta just seems unrelated to the whole surprise Chaos thing.
And Darko gave bm the power, not Bahamut.

Wake Bahamut > Class Change > Super-Sarda. Seems to make sense to me.
And maybe then that was it? Just not giving him a power?

I'm guessing that "he" was Sarda. They made the light warriors quite effing powerful. If Sarda hadn't absorbed the power from the orbs of light, he wouldn't have been able to survive their assault. So, I'm guessing that, by powering the light warriors up, they were trying to take our Sarda.
