View Full Version : The Disappointment of Comedy Central

The word Muhammad is now a censored word on television.
Congratufuckinglations, extremists. You've solidified that there is something American Free Speech does not cover. God I'm disgusted.
It's not even about a TV show. It's about the fact that this whole thing has gotten so bad, we're forbidding people from saying a NAME on goddamn television. This isn't fucking Voldemort, it's Muhammad, a figure that MUSLIMS are not allowed to show because it would cause reverence to him instead of their deity.
But thanks, Comedy Central. You really showed the cut of your jibb tonight.
Also, before people say "No, bleeping his name was part of the joke!", here's proof that CC and the networks bleeped it and not the creators:

Guys....I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that was the joke. It was punctuated very nicely by large cut of the ending speeches.
That being said, I did kinda wonder if the death threats posted up on that extremist website towards the creators triggered the editing, but if it did they managed to get a whole episode sound and video edited in under a day and managed to still make their point funny. So either the edit job was planned before hand, or these guys are damned amazing at their job.
Sorry, I was that guy....who didn't read the last half of the first post.

Somehow, Tev, I don't think it takes too long to bleep out the word Muhammad. And South Park was unable to stream the new episode on their site because they didn't have CC's edited version and were not allowed to broadcast the non-edited version.
Also, the website had posted the addresses and living residences of Comedy Central execs and the South Park Creators, "just in case someone wanted to contact them". Before it got hacked by 4chan anyway.
I wonder if we'll get a non-edited version on the DVD release of this season....

but thats the thing, there is nothing wrong with saying Mohammed according to their religion. Though they already did that with the image of him in the Family Guy episode. As I've always said, the terrorists won. The moment you give into fear and intimidation they win. Sadly America has reached the point that safety and security is more valuable to your average citizen then freedom and civil liberties. The Romans were allowed to do a lot of things. Do you want to wind up like the Romans did with a crazy inbred emperor and Germanic barbarians kicking down their doors ushering in a few hundred years of Dark Ages?Rome existed as an empire with an emperor for another 65 years after the Goths sacked Rome, and even then existed as a political force for another hundred years (or until the current day, if you count the Rome-originating Catholic Christian church). And really, what were the barbarians supposed to do? Stay up north and be slaughtered by Attila's hordes? Rome's downfall was a mixture of having the emperor spend all resources on keeping the army happy so they wouldn't kill him, overstretching those resources, and a thousand years being a long, long time so it was gonna happen eventually.
Gosh, think before you post.
Oh, and quests are neat. Much better than grinding mobs.
Gosh, think before you post.I still think there were Dark Ages....history pretty much backs me up on that. "It's gunna happen eventually" is not a valid excuse in this day and age either. The day it happens is the day everyone fires off their nuclear weapons and we, as a planet, stop happening.

Just really a major disappointment. In a matter of a week, Muhammad jumped onto the censored name list.
First you could show his image because no one cared, then you had to censor it. Then you could at least say his name but now you can't say that either. Muhammad has become He Who Shall Not Be Named.
Does that make the extremists Death Eaters?

Actually, History doesn't back you up because one of the reason's it's called the Dark Ages is there was little history recorded during that time in the regions the dark age actually effected. Considering the Byzantine Empire was still around, aka the Easter Roman Empire, The fall of the Western Roman Empire caused everyone to war with each other in that region for supremacy while east of that everything else trucked on fairly normal. The Dark Age's also saw the rise of the Arab Empire to the south of everything. Then by the 800 the west finally got it's act together and came back. So from 400-800 AD the only area really overly screwed during that time was Western Europe. The as everything started getting back into the grove of things the Holy Roman empire popped it's ass in the things by going fuck you I'm taking over middle europe bitches. It really wasn't overly that much more screwed then the times before it, just didn't have the crazy all power romans to boss everyone around.

Rome was falling just fine on its own without them.
There is no intentional metaphor here.
So I spent some time reading the blog (http://revolutionmuslim.blogspot.com/) on the site run by the New York based extremists that caused this whole mess....
I gotta say, they are a long winded bunch. And maybe I really am the great jaded Satan they make me out to be, but really I'm not feeling much more than a "get in line" feeling towards the oppression they are raging about. I mean, I'd put gay marriage higher on the "to fix" list than coming to an agreement over which religious figures need to be shielded from mockery.
That’s what I get for subscribing to the idea that Free Speech is free I guess. In their world I’d not even have bothered to read what they had to say.

You can bet that if CC drops them, they'll have other networks clamoring to pick them up. South Park has become an icon over its run.
I expect that the 2013 contract negotiations are going to be a little more involved than Comedy Central would want. I'm betting on a forced-hand deal that gives the creators far more control over how their property is broadcast. Since, as Blues pointed out, they are more of a cultural icon now they can wheel and deal with more authority.
Because really, if another network is willing to take them in and give them more control over their project then there really is no good reason not to move.
krogothwolf
04-23-2010, 10:46 AM
I don't know, a network still has to have limitation opposed on every program they produce. The same standard for that specific time slot. As soon as they give South Park that kind of free reign they lose a lot of negotiating points to other programs. So either they would have to limit the restrictions on a whole or tell South Park they can't. The only network I can see giving South Park free reign like that is HBO and no one wants that!

just about any network would do the same, so its not too much leverage. Heck if they didn't already have alot the episode probably would have been pulled. To be fair CC did do this in part to protect Matt and Trey as if the threats were carried out they'd be among the top target. I mean you cant physically attack CC, especially since its just part of a much larger corperation. Only people you can really threaten are those involved in the show and the execs, and their anger would be more directed to those that do the show.
Keep in mind I doubt they'd follow through with their threats, just saying its probably the logic they are using.
