Title says it all. I like the rep system, the ability to acknowledge excellent posts, getting acknowledged yourself, gathering gems, the whole shibang.

What I wonder about is, when you give rep, how does the amount you give vary? Is post count a factor? Join date? How much rep you have yourself? Totally random?

This isn't really a major question (OHMIGOD, I'M ALMOST AT MY 4TH GEM, 299 REP, QUICK SOMEONE REP ME), but I haven't found any other thread pertaining to it, and since the rep I've received has ranged from 1 to ~30, I was curious. Also, bored.

I think the amount of rep you can give is based on the amount you already have...I think. As far as I know, that's the only factor that matters in the exchange of reputation. Someone better acquainted with the system can probably correct me on these points if I'm wrong.

All three, actually, factoring in at various amounts.

Also whether or not you're a mod/admin.

I used to give 20 points, which, I THINK is the max. I don't know if I still do, because people, thankfully, stopped caring about it so damned much.

I'm relatively certain all admins give 20 points, though.

Yeah, admins give 20 and that's it, but there are a lot of regulars by now who give considerably more than that. There's no upper limit. Actually given that fact it might not be a bad idea to adjust the admin value.

Yeah, I just got reputation from someone who ruined my perfect 108 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/108_%28number%29#In_Eastern_religions_.26_traditio ns) and made it a flawed 139 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/139_%28number%29#In_television).

I'm not complaining though. There's no peen like e-peen
