So, this is about games, anime and everything in between. I just thought it would better fit in the general section since it's not about one medium per se.

So, i was looking at this fake http://cache-04.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/9/2010/05/500x_stupid.jpg, and you know what was the point where i knew it was a fake? "Dead or Alive Chronus".

I mean, what the hell? That doesn't sound like a DoA Title at all! It actually sounds like something a 15 year old would spit out when trying to put words to describe his awesome video for an awesome game...

And look at some of these names... "God Of War 3: Afterfall", "The Legend of Zelda: THe fall of Hyrule", "Resident Evil: Downfall" (What's up with this guy and "falling" anyways...?)

And then i was thinking about Hoax and fake news and fan creations portraited as official releases and all that stuff we have around... new pokemon, new season of a show or anime, reboot of a movie, reboot of a book... anything really.

There is a Hoax about a secret Pokemon? It's a Demon. It's Dark, It's Broodier, it requires the death of another Pokemon.

There is a new season of Pokemon on TV? Ash has to fight his feelings for his dad who is the main villain. Pikachi dies! Misty Dies! EVERYBODY DIES!

There is a new season of anything? It should be darkier, edgier, broodier, heavier....

Is there a reboot of a action movie coming? ULTRAVIOLENCE THAT SHIT!

Was there a Hero in your book/game/series/movie? Hell, he is back now and he is MEAN and TORN and BROKEN and stuff!

What? You thought There hero of the movie was a decent guy fighting for justice and honor because he believe in that? Well, here you go with a series of books that shows how dark and tormented his future has become. And that of his family! Did you know his son became a hardcore Villain?

... and don't even get me started on Diablo 3.

And it's the same crap over and over again. I mean, no wonder there are so few gems around and year after year all media gets plastered with crap. People like crap! People like Gore and mindless, senseless violence for no god damn reason.

There really are no more heroes, because no good hero is a real hero unless he can also work as a Villain, a jackass, an asshole. They are easier to create Too! So it's bigger payoff with less effort.

Everybody gets comfortable on the comfort zone of laziness, not just the ones who create the products, but those who get influenced by the product and start to desire more of it. Creating this cycle.

I still remember an Article on IGN where they made a huge case for why they think Kingdom Hearts 3 should be Darkier and edgier... i mean, what? It's fucking Kingdom Hearts! Mickey, Donald, Goofy! Power of Friendship and Love! what the hell...?!

So, i'm not sure if this is a trend or the norm right now. But it exists and it's around and i don't really care for it. I still think you can create amazing products based on decent characters, it's just harder to do.

So, have you guys had any experience with this trend? How do you see it?

Yeah, it's a big trend permeating all of western culture since several years. I've talked about it before so I'll just copy that post:

It's not just making things darker and edgier, you get zombies, vampires, Todd McFarlane comics, Chtulhu and all things morbid and putrid. England went through the exact same thing some 100 years ago, when the empire collapsed. What we're seeing is the spiritual death of our culture, which for some reason manifests consciously as a fascination with death and decay. There's no cause for alarm however, we'll figure out new things to define ourselves around. This end of the world is just another world beginning.

Could this be what the Mayans predicted for 2012!?
DISCUSS!

(Or, y'know, let's stay on topic. Aside from this post.)

Note: People that make fake lists/sequels/etc. are trying to piss people off.

Note: Bells reaction to titles of fake list and descriptions of fake sequels.

Do math.

"Epic Mickey" would set off all my alarm bells immediately if I didn't know any better.

Personally, "Metrioid the Oder M" rung some alarm bells for me. I mean, what's the premise of that game?

"Samus! Quickly, we need your help! Mother Brain and all the Metroids are dead, but it turns out that the stench of their decaying bodies is FAR more potent and deadly than they ever were!"

Samus fixes that solution on every game she plays. She blows up a planet.

It's like someone hired the staff of DC Comics to write videogames.
