So, the new J J Abrams and Spielberg movie.
The trailer is already on youtube, here :
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=super+8+j+j+abrams&aq=f
As Abrams already pointed, it has nothing to do with Cloverfield. Even though the "Atmosphere" of the Trailer is quite similar.
This movie takes place on 1979, and for kicks i wikipedia'ed (i made a word!) the year to see if there was any events that would relate to this movies or trailer.
I also wanted to cross this information with major events in the year, that happened between Ohio and Area 51, but that's pretty much the whole freaking country.
But here are some of the ones that jumped on me.
March 29 ? America's most serious nuclear power plant accident at Three Mile Island, Pennsylvania.
April 20 ? President Jimmy Carter is attacked by a swamp rabbit while fishing in his hometown of Plains, Georgia.
June ? McDonald's introduces the Happy Meal.
August 10 ? Michael Jackson releases his first breakthrough album Off the Wall. It sells 7 million copies in the United States alone, making it a 7x platinum album.
December 3 ? Eleven fans are killed during a stampede for seats before The Who concert at the Riverfront Coliseum in Cincinnati, Ohio.
So... it could be anything really.

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say it's about an alien they kept at Area 51 escaping during transport to Ohio. Seems to me like they pretty much spelled it out, although looking over your list I really hope it's actually about the swamp rabbit.

I'd totally go see this film if it was about the swamp rabbit.

Actually Looking at the trailer It looks Beginning-ish spring and very wet.
So I am Hoping it's some how connected to Three mile island
The nuclear power plant incident gives eight people superpowers, becoming the infamous team known as the Super 8.
But no if Spielberg is involved it's probably the alien thing.

Incidentally, what kind of weak-ass trains do you guys build in the US?*
A train might derail from a head-on collision with a pick-up, but never to that effect.
Regarding the film... if this comes close to Cloverfield, which I liked quite a bit, I am certainly going to watch this.
* I know, I know. It's the movies. A feather lying on a piece of track could make a train do a triple salto.

Eh, 1974?
I'll give you the cars, but the trains were still heavy sons of bitches. ;)
Straight from Wikipedia, we're assuming the pulling locomotive was an SD40 (built between '66 and '72), probably 2 in tandem, weighing in at 360,000 Pounds (or 160,000 Kilograms) each.
Even if you build a completely lead car, it wouldn't stand a chance when it's thundering down the rails at 83 MPH (134 KM/H). Any car, save heavy armoured vehicles and probably big trucks, would be atomized.
It was closing on a crossing, though, so let's half that speed. I wouldn't expect the train to be lifted from the track, or come to such a violent stop.
Also, if you want to continue this, I suggest we carry on in PM's or MSN or something, 'cause I'm going way off-track (PUNS!) being a complete train-geek here.

To just end it here. All it had to do was Lift a single wheel off the track. With both sides of it's Cages Stuck under the wheels one of them would. But I do admit it's Hollywood And Spielberg They are going to Over dramatize shit

guys, its totally related to the Happy Meal.
Also, if this is somehow related to Three Mile Island (which in total gave off less radiation than your monitor is putting off, right now) then I will personally drive to JJ Abrams' home and kick him in the face.

Indeed. There is a movie in here.
I think the only connection to cloverfield might be the title. if "SUper 8" means the Type of Filme (8mm film) that could mean they plan on combining the "Live action style" of Cloverfield, shot in Super 8 for scenes with the more traditional filming style of today.

Screw you, Mr. Abrams. We get it, you like to dick around with your audience. Now stop playing around and make a sequel to Star Trek.

Or get around to making those Dark Tower movies you supposedly signed on for...
