So, as some of you know, Mafia has kind of died on these here forums. Now this isn't an attempt to bring them back for forever. But rather its summer time and we all have ALOT more time on our hands during this time of year. As such, I feel like maybe having a mafia game might help us spend some our summer time enjoyably on these forums outside of waiting for other things to happen. After a quick PM to Fenris, for his go-ahead, I've decided I'd try this one more time.
So for those of you who are unfamiliar with Mafia, here are the rules.
--------------------------------
The Rules
1) There will be 20-30 players in this game. The Game Organizer (me) will assign each player?s role at random, and will PM the roles to the players.
2) Of the 20-30, there will be 5-6 Mafia members (based on how many total players there are). One of the Mafia is the Mafia Leader, and will report to the GO. The Mafia can communicate with each other through outside methods (PM, Instant Messenger, Email, etc.).
3) Of the 20-30, there will be one Police Officer. The Police cannot use outside methods of communication, except when talking to the GO.
4) Of the 20-30 there will be one Bodyguard. The Bodyguard cannot use outside methods of communication, except when talking to the GO.
5) The Vigilante: The Vigilante (vig) is a town-aligned Player. Each night the vig may PM/IM the name of one player, and that player is killed. The vig, like all townies, wins when all mafia are dead.
6) The Imposter: This character can imitate one of the three main town roles per night(Police officer, Bodyguard or Vigilante). He is out for himself and wins when he is the last one left
7) Secret roles: I will initiate secret roles that only the user of this role knows of. THIS ROLE MAY NOT BE ROLE CLAIMED UNLESS THEIR POWER THAT IS USED HAS TO BE KNOWN TO THE TOWN. There is not a specified number of secret roles, but the more people that join, the more possible roles there will be. (ADDITION!) YOU MAY NOT TELL YOUR SECRET ROLE TO A GROUP MEMBER! DON"T DO IT! THE ONLY TIME YOU USE YOUR ROLE IS WHEN YOU GET MY VERIFICATION FIRST! Thank you.
8) The rest of the town shall be towns people. These players have no outside communication with other players about specifics of the game. (I don't care if you say in an IM "Hey, that mafia game is great." but no telling each other info.)
***HONESTY GOES A LONG WAY***
Also, once killed, a poster is not told who is mafia and has no special knowledge the rest of you don't. Outside communication with living players is forbidden. Feel free to converse with your fellow dead/non-playing mates about the game.
---
The rounds will proceed as follows:
1. The 4-6 Mafia decide on one person to kill. If the members of the Mafia do not agree, then the Leader gets the final say. The Leader will PM/IM the GO to report the target ASAP.
1a. The Imposter will PM/IM the GO with who he wants to copy and how to use his power.
2. The Police Officer may investigate one player. The Police Officer will PM/IM the GO with the name of the player to be investigated ASAP. The GO will respond to the investigation by informing the PO whether that player is Mafia or any other role.
3. The Bodyguard (a.k.a. Doctor) may choose to defend one player. The Bodyguard will PM/IM the GO with the screen name of that player ASAP. If the protected person is hit by the Mafia, the hit fails and the person continues in the game. -The bodyguard may not protect him/herself.
4. The GO will write a story to explain the failed hit. The story may (at his discretion) contain implications to some number of players using the same rules as the death post.
5. All of the players spend the remaining days discussing whom they think is in the Mafia. They can judge this based on who was killed last, how suspicious their opponents sound, or anything else they want to use as evidence.
6. Each player will vote on who is to be lynched.
Votes for lynching are to be posted on the thread. To simplify collating the votes, each player will identify their vote with the words vote: username followed by the screen name of the person they vote for. Be sure to bold your vote (Example; Vote: Mesden), or it will not count. Votes may be posted at any time after the deathpost goes up and will end after a certain amount of time.
Revisions. Players will be allowed any number of revisions. The last post with a revision in before the voting deadline will be the one that counts. If you wish to revise your vote it should be identified first with an Unvote (Example; Unvote: p-sleaz), and then a new Vote: SomebodyElse.
If you post your vote prior to the opening of voting for the round, it will not be counted. Revisions to those votes posted within the voting period will be counted.
The GO will tally the votes, and announce the lynched person. The lynched person is then out of the game. The lynched person may respond to the lynching by saying something to everyone before death, but only has one post. The lynched person may afterwards haunt the thread but they may say nothing substantial to the game and should not spam.
In the event of a tied lynch vote, the voting period shall be extended until the GO sees it fit to continue. Players who wish to amend their votes may do so during this period.
Should a player PM their vote to the GO resulting in the tie being broken, then votes will stand as at the close of the voting window.
At the close of the extended deadline, if the lynch vote is still a tie then there will be no lynching that week.
7. There will be a "deliberation" period for the mafia, PO, and BG to choose their next target, after which, the next round begins. Repeat until:
-The Mafia are all dead, and all the Citizens are winners (yes, even the dead ones.).
-The number of Mafia make up at least half of the remaining players, then the Mafia are the winners.
-The imposter is the last player.
Roleclaim: Roleclaims are what they sound like, telling everyone else what your role is. This is not to be confused with Copy and Pasting your PM, which will get you modkilled. Rolelclaiming is your word only, no GO verification.
No Lynch Vote: If you feel that nobody is acting scummy enough or you simply do not want to lynch anyone, you may Vote: No Lynch. If the majority of people vote to not lynch, no one dies and the game is shifted towards Night.
Also, BE RESPECTFUL of eachother. I will oust anyone I find being overly disrespectful to thier fellow players. This does not mean you're not allowed to argue, it just means you must do it in a respectful manner that doesn't sound like "you're a dickwad!" "No, you're an asshat!" etc. This is in the rules section, so don't break it!
------------------------------
Some of you may notice that there won't be alot of roles in this game. Thats mostly because I've simplified this game ALOT in comparison to some of the other games we've had. Why? Because simple can be funner. Plus this is the first game we're having in a LONG time here. Why start off with a hard set up for the newbies?
If you want to play, post in this here thread and if you have any questions about the rules, feel free to ask me and I'll clarify anything that needs to be clarified.
