This is supposed to be the sequel to the Shadow Dragon (DS remake of Fire Emblem 1), if I remember correctly.

I certainly hope they do more with this one than Shadow Dragon, which, while a decent game in itself, was pretty plain as far as storyline and characters went. Still, I've read a little bit about 3, the story sounded a little more interesting. Not much competition really, but, it's something.

Don't really know much about it beyond the premise though. Normally I'd just look it up, but if it's getting a remake, I'll spare myself the spoilers and just wait and see.

It's going to be in English, right?

Well to be fair Shadow Dragon was a remake of a NES game. There wasn't much to start with honestly.

Yeah I too was disappointed when the FFI port for PSP didn't add a background story for the Black Mage about how he's the last of his race and needed to defeat Malirith because she scorched his town to the ground.

All Fire Emblems since 7 have been brought overseas. I doubt this will be the one to break the trend.

It's interesting that they are skipping 2, however. Wait, no, the adjective is "sad".

But wasn't FE2 just a side-story of FE1? I mean, FE3 is a remake of FE1 + a sequel, so I wouldn't see it being that hard to fit the FE2 story in as gaiden chapters or something.

That said, FUCK I knew there was a DS game I forgot to pick up! *Runs off to Gamestop to purchase Shadow Dragon* I don't care about the non-existent story, I just like the gameplay >.>

This is actually just a remake of Book 2 of FE3.

They might as well remake all of them, especially when overseas markets missed the first six titles.

Probably their intention. I hope they don't dally too long before going to FE4.

Is it still modus operandi for them to go "story" "fight" "story" "fight" without anything like "side quest" or "walk around"? I hated that about one of the earlier Fire Emblem games, so much that I quit playing it altogether. I don't want to play a story, I want some freedom. Even FF Tactics had more freedom than whatever FE game that was.

Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones for the GBA tried to offer freedom. General consensus seems to be that the game sucked hardcore because of it. The game basically fell apart because if you used the sidequests, you tended to become WAY too strong for the main quest.

But besides that one, no there is little to no sidequesting/freeroaming to be had. Fire Emblem is on railroad tracks, and they'll be damned if they ever let you hop off the train again!

Yeah, I'm actually not a big fan of games that do that. If I want to grind my party to level 99 and buy the best gear and set every enemy on fire with my mind, I should be allowed to. Or, you know, they could make fights scale.

Yeah I won't be playing Fire Emblem then. Games that are too linear piss me off.

Or, you know, they could make fights scale.

They also did that in FE8. Only it was only the sidequest encounters that scaled with your team. And it didn't really matter, since this is Fire Emblem. For all the talk about the games being super hard and such, they're actually very, very easy when you understand the mechanics.

Anywho, Radiant Dawn's crappy writing and Shadow Dragon's refusal to add in any of the game mechanics featured in post-FE1 games save for the weapon triangle to the original release have me thinking that the series has pretty much burned out, so I'm not terribly interested in what this next remake has to offer.
