So,we've got sixty days, within those sixty days, a study will be done to see if letting gays serve openly will somehow hurt the military, bullshit if I've ever heard it.

All I can say is I'm so very, very happy this is happening, but I worry about some homophobes in the Service all protesting, giving credence to the idea that it would cause dissension or somesuch. Any military folks care to chime in on the scene in our bases?

Now how will the military industrial complex protect America's precious homosexuals?

Well, not quite. The bill still has to go through a final vote in the House (since all they've done so far was vote in favor of adding the repeal as an amendment to a defense spending bill), and then a vote in the Senate and the Republicans are already planning to filibuster it, but I say let them try and likely embarrass themselves.

Then, if it does pass, the results of the sixty day study will be decided by the leaders of the Pentagon, and with the Secretary of Defense and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff as notable supporters of repealing the ban, it's pretty much a lock that it'll happen.

The vast, vast majority of the current crop of military simply don't give a shit.

Yeah if there's one thing the 'pubs are good at, it's discrimination. So I'm sure they are welcome to filibuster the hell out of this one but I bet once again their one-time darling now considered RINO Scott Brown will again break ranks, and a few other noteable New England 'pubs and probably any other one who doesn't want to distance themselves from the obvious shift toward the left in re: gay rights.

They know they're on the losing side and their bitter fight won't last much longer. These guys want money and power and they will fight something until it's proven to be a loss, then they will adopt it and say things like "I have always been a strident supporter of (x)!" See: Obama stimulus checks.

Between this and Arizona's spat of anti-migrant laws, I love it that through their own actions the Republicans are limiting themselves to the White Fundamentalist vote.

Ah, the slow meandering march of progress. However, it's important to not completely dissmiss them as they've proven good at getting them to actually vote. Here's hoping November proves not to be a case of two steps forward one step back.

They might have some victories in the short term but they're completely fucked down the road. History has not been kind to xenophobic racists.

Yes, but those are all xenophobic racists with guns in military campaigns.

This is xenophobic racists with guns on their own people.
