I was just informed that my radio show will now be every Saturday instead of every other Saturday or "whenever we feel like giving you a slot"-erday. This means that there will be more continuity between shows and more of a chance to build a following. But, it also gives me a chance to screw with the format a little.

I was thinking some of you might want to do some video game/anime/movie talk a-la the Nerdy Show. It would be topics that we decide on beforehand, new releases, reviews, controversy... anything that could lead to spirited debate. Then weave some rock in between. As far as I know there would be no other radio show like it in the tri-state area.

Let me know what you think. It's always more fun with more people. We have studio phone lines available, or we could Skype you in and give you aliases if you're uncomfortable giving out your name. If you think this kind of thing might alienate the listenership, just remember, I have no listenership.

I'm up for it if you'll have me. I can talk about both animu and the vidjamagaims.

Up for it possibly once I get a new mic/headset.

I'm happy so many are interested. Not sure how we would set this up, we could probably work it out with everyone on at once. Though I forgot to mention that there is a problem me and Nikose ran into where the person on Skype can hear others on Skype, but not anyone using the actual phone line. So everyone would have to get a microphone.

Another thing is that there is no censor delay. Meaning whatever you say is out there as soon as you say it. Short story, one slip and I may very well lose the position. I'm sure you guys can restrain yourselves.

All I would need would be for you all to be on Skype at least a half hour to an hour before show time. That way I can set the sound levels and do a last minute rundown. Other than that, this is the least strict radio station ever. We can pick the topics and music pretty much at will.

So what do we talk about the first night? And how many people do we include on our panel, assuming my friend comes with me to take phone calls?

I'm thinking we start it off easy, movies and tv, just to get the ball rolling and not give the listeners too much of a culture shock. It doesn't even have to be for the entire show, we could dedicate a half hour to it if we wanted. As for the participants, I think we could manage everyone at once, though we would have to practice restraint and talking in something resembling an order.

I think you should test call quality with all of us first off, to see who comes in clear enough over the radio. I think my connection could be the standard? I am very confident in NonCon's too.

If you wanted, we could do a call-in question time where people call in problems, you type the issue out to me and the others, we do a braintrust to figure out what the solution is. Video games, cheat codes, broken computers, anything to do with gadgets and gizmos.

I'm probably not going to have the ability to call anything in (no skype/internet type stuff), but are you guys geeky enough to... discuss DnD?!?!?

... or, barring that, t3h PATHFINDER?!?!?!?!?!?!1!1!1!one!one!one!

Hey, you've already got people making unreasonable demands that their particular niche be catered to, just like a real radio show! ... heh-heh... yeah, sorry. :sweatdrop

Do a E3 Panel as a one-shot to see if your audience likes it and trim the edges from that into a final format.

Also, for conferences you should have 3-5 people with you. It's just a safe logic... too many people and it gets crowded and a conversation becomes noise. Too little and as soon as you hit the first slow point the show dies.

also to prevent Technical Difficulties with your guests. (if you have 3 people with you and someone has trouble and logs off, you still have 2 Guests with is still enough to have a decent conversation of some length)

I think we could manage everyone at once

This could actually get out of hand, I'd think. Best thing to do is only a couple at a time, find out who works well and who doesn't, add more once the current group is situated well. That's just my personal opinion, though, so feel free to ignore it.

Krylo

I'd participate but I'd probably drop something or some shit while I'm on the air and let out a 'fuck' without thinking about it, and then you'd be all, "Dude, you're going to get me fired," and I'd be all, "Oh shit, sorry, dude," and that would be the end of your radio career.

And in so much as ending your radio career would probably be the best thing I could ever do for the world, I'd still feel bad.

...Plus I don't think I've talked for more than 10 minutes without cussing since I was like 13, so there's that.

This interests me greatly. Not really sure what I'd be good for, but there's time to think of that!

Also I think too many people on at once does get out of hand easily, and I listen to actual radio folks on local shows that just have too many people on to make it enjoyment.

An E3 Panel would be pretty cool though. One person for the big three, and like a joke person who is against video games.

The ultimate goal is to dethrone Limbaugh. I thought you might be on board with that.

As far as an E3 panel, we could do that starting the second show, but I doubt any of our current demographic even knows what a vidjagame system is. Much less anime. We might have to ween them a bit before we let them have the good stuff. That's why I'd suggest a movie/tv discussion. What's out, what's coming out, that sort of thing.

This could actually get out of hand, I'd think. Best thing to do is only a couple at a time, find out who works well and who doesn't, add more once the current group is situated well. That's just my personal opinion, though, so feel free to ignore it.

First thing we have to do is get everyone together on Skype, or at least those who would want to participate in the test run, and decide on topics. Maybe the finale of Lost (even though I haven't seen a single episode), 24's finale and movie, um.....whatever else is happening. The show's every Saturday 6-8pm EST. We don't necessarily have to start the panel this week, but if we're ready by then I'd like to give it a shot.

And it doesn't really matter what your specialty is. If you hold any sort of position on any website or at any company anywhere, or even just a college major, I can make you sound like hot shit.

I hate TV!

I'd be kind of keen to listen to you guys, assuming it streaming on internet somewhere.
Also if you need to get yanked off the air I reckon I can do it faster than Krylo.

It's definitely on the web somewhere, Bob has linked the radio station's website in past topics and it was apparently streamable. The one time I bothered tuning in though Bob had been preempted by something, or I couldn't get it to work, or something like that. There was definitely a reason I didn't listen to his show that was not simply pure laziness!

Bob The Mercenary
06-03-2010, 07:08 PM
Yup. www.wdvrfm.org if you feel compelled to listen.

I've been looking for topics and Fark's showbiz section always seems ripe with them. Pilgrim vs. The World looks mindblowingly fantastic. They're making a Sex and the City 3 -_-. Captain America is being filmed. We could also hint at the new reality show based in NJ if we want to get a little local action. And we could focus a little more on the comic movies if you would prefer, since a lot of you seem to have that down to a science.

[Edit] Oh yeah, and there's a list of 5 video game movies that completely missed the point that we could go down.

Do an entire panel on the new Marmaduke movie. It's a movie based on a comic, it practically writes itself. Bonus Guest: Marmaduke Explained (http://www.29-95.com/time-suck/comic-strip/marmaduke-explained)!

Daimo Mac, The Blue Light of Hope

If we are talking current movies, I like that idea. Just TV shows I won't work well with as I don't watch TV!

Alright, to anyone who said they were interested, be on Skype between 4 and 5pm EST tomorrow. Hope you can make it.

Bob The Mercenary
06-04-2010, 10:45 PM
Update: Looks like my friend who was supposed to cohost with me tomorrow bailed again. That just means no phone calls. Or we'll just have to think up a way where I can take calls, but not interfere with the banter.

Nique

Bob, are you in need of any additional talking heads? I want to argue with NonCon about who makes the handomest Doctor, David Tennent or Matt Smith.

Bob The Mercenary
06-05-2010, 04:12 PM
Sure! I'll take whoever I can get.

For tonight it's not looking too good though. Might just postpone it for a few weeks. Only one person showed up for the broadcast so far.

We should really think up a game or something we could do on the air other than just a lot of banter. I mean I'd be up for playing samples of music from around the world that you guys like, in addition to chiptunes, OCRemix, and J-pop. Any ideas that pop into your head.

I vote for Geek Jeopardy!

If we do do Geek Jeopardy, we might want to have Bob asking questions on a sort of rotation (Mac, Nik, Me, Mac, Nik, Me as just an example), rather than whoever answers first, otherwise it might get kind of messy.

By the way, Bob, if you get this off the ground and running, are you allowed to record the show and upload it as a podcast later or is that against the station's rules? 'Cause frankly I can't get the live stream to work, plus I have a crap internet connection.

I've actually been recording every show I do for the past two months. I'd have no problem recording and hosting a download link on my site. It was actually part of the plan to begin with, but someone still hasn't finished my website yet. ;)

We're finally getting a delay installed at the station. I hope that alleviates at least some of your fears of going on air. We could even do political talk.

Had an excellent idea today that I would like an opinion on.

Two straight hours of nyancat. Only pausing for commercials and station IDs.

I don't really know your audience, in fact, I just remembered this show because you posted about it but, wouldn't people get mad or something because of that?...then again, I would listen to that

Professor Smarmiarty

You should hae 2 straight hours of SMB getting boozed and ranting about how much me hates oranges.
