First off, let me ask you what you do when you're scared. What do you do? Here's what I do. I turn on the TV. I turn it on to something stupid, like Tiny Toons. I chill out for a bit. Freddy can't kill me if I'm awake and chilling out.

This movie is not about The Grudge, but the original Japanese flick it was based on, Ju-On. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8R1dODSbzU) Ju-On is a ghost story, and let my say that if you're a fan of horror movies, this should definitely be on your list of things to see. I'm a fan of Japanese horror from things like Silent Hill because - Yahtzee said it best here - "...the Japanese attempt at horror tends to be slow building..." And Ju-On is slow building. Ju-On doesn't pull any cheap scares or shocks by having things jump out and go "boo!" And at the same time, you'll think that the scares are just cheap tricks. But once you see Hitomi, shit gets real.

The movie starts with a social worker asked to check up on a older woman. When she gets to the house to find the woman, she's surprised to find that the house is a mess, no one is around save for this old woman, and that said woman has literally spent every night browning her pants. The social worker later finds out what's terrorizing the woman when she meets it face to face.

The movie goes from person to person, telling the stories of various people. It's slightly Tarantino-esque, and I can say that because Ju-On came out in 2002, in that it tells different stories revolving around the main characters and it's not in chronological order. Or should I say a singular story involving multiple characters. Whatever. It's a foreign movie with subtitles, but easily one of the best horror flicks I've seen recently. If solely for this scene, (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkBKUcjAmr0&feature=related#t=6m20s) which is the reason I asked the question in the beginning.

You probably have all seen The Grudge, that one horror flick with Sarah-Michelle Buffy, but watch this, too. This gets a definite thumbs up.
