View Full Version : In The 80's, We Had Robocop - Then, In 2008, We Got Iron Man
So will our next hero be more robotic, or less robotic? Iron Man seemed more advanced than Robocop, but that doesn't make him more robotic. I mean, Robocop was a cyborg android dude, so he's set the standard for being a robot. I'm guessing our next hero will be more human.

Clearly there were no other heroes and heroines in between of varying mechanical and non-mechanical origin. Nope.

What's worse is that Seil couldn't even spell "Iron Man" right. It's spelt "War Machine."
There are totally other things out there, but nothing really comparing to Robocop and Iron Man.

Yeah, I agree. No heroes like Robocop or Iron Man. Not a single one that really compares to either one of them.
Edit: When are we adding the sarcasm tag?

I'm just waiting for the robocop remake. I know it's coming any day now...
But to be honest, i'm not all that sure of how Robocop would work in movie form today.

I love how one of his eyes is looking down to the side and the other one just stares straight ahead.

No one else is going to say it? Iron man is from 1963. Not 2008.

Lazy robot eye?
I'm talking about the movies here, people! This would be in movies if the sub-forum still existed. What's going to be the next big movie?

You know there's a handy way to clarify that sort of thing in advance.
e: honestly why Robocop and Iron Man, of all the characters?

Are we talking the G1 Cartoon or the recent abominations called Bay-Formers?

This'd be more interesting as a "versus" post in the versus thread (if it still exists). I'll see about doing that now.
EDIT: Done. http://www.nuklearforums.com/showpost.php?p=1048964&postcount=2504
Anyway, it seems like there were other robotic heroes between then and now. Arnie in Terminator 2 definitely counts, for one, he was the hero in that one. He basically returned for Terminator 3 as well. There's also non-action movies like Short Circuit (I think that was post Robocop, I'm not really sure). Johnny 5 was pretty endearing.
As for whether or not they will be more robotic or less, while they might turn into "total robots" or remain cyborgs (or guys in robot suits, I guess?), they will still have to have some kind of human-like qualities or emotions that endear us to them. Even Robocop, despite the way he talks and acts, ended up having human qualities we can identify with, especially towards the end of the first film (for some reason number 2 retconned him as being back to pretty emotionless for some reason, but anyway), but even before that there was a clear struggle between the human emotional side of him and the cyborg side of him that has to follow his orders. So even if a hero is a total robot physically, they will still have to have human characteristics for us to enjoy watching them.
He saved the human race!
