~Preface~

I couldn't choose between exporting this & the .hack//RPG (http://www.nuklearforums.com/showthread.php?p=1057881#post1057881). So I did both. Now, I've never done anything like this RP before, so it's an experiment in more ways than one. With that said, feel free to give input.

~Story~

When most people think of ancient Japan, they think of the Sengoku period. Feudalism is nearing its end, but also its fiercest. Shogun vie for power all over the island. Trade with other nations have brought new people, ideas, & materials to the stage. In this time, there are a few notable names. Oda Nobunga attempts to bring Japan into unity, although he is as bloodthirsty as any warlord. Date Masamune, relative of the famed sword smith, encourages foreign trade & Christian mercenaries, extending his potential influence beyond the island itself. The land is split between these & hundreds of other families.

The soldiers of this period fall into 2 major well-known categories: Samurai, the “knights” of Japan, bound by a code of honor, & “shinobi” or “ninja,” the notorious tricksters, assassins, & workers of the “dirty” tasks that the Shogun need done but their Samurai are forbidden to take.

So, at any given time, one has to wonder: Who is this person serving? What are their goals? Who are their enemies? Do they thrive on war or peace? What do they plan to do with the likes of me?

~Sign-Up~

Name: Self-explanatory. First & last.
Age: Try to make it fit the character. If they’re a warlord, they’re probably at least middle aged. If they’re just starting out, they may be teenaged or even pre-teen. Et cetera.
Appearance: What does the character look like? What do they wear?
Class: Ronin are wandering swordsman & can take on pretty much any path they wish. Ninja are typically peasants & ideally these characters will focus on procuring a variety of devices for complicated diversions & tactics. Samurai are royalty & usually serve as soldiers, police, bodyguards, & governing officials.
Bio: Because of the traders & missionaries, the character need not necessarily be Japanese in origin. You also needn’t go out of your way to make sure you connect with the history of the period. In this section, however, you have to explain what it is they do for a living, what shogun they are allied with, if any, the general conditions under which they live, & what they are setting out to do. Past events, battles & duels they’ve participated in, & family information are also good. Essentially, you only need a good enough origin story that I know how you fit in. How easy or complicated it’s going to be will depend on what you want to do.
Weapons: Any weapons you are carrying with you. More can be obtained.
Notes: Anything extra you want to include. I should note that samurai cannot use any form of shield or most ninja weapons. It’s like a thing for them. Ninja are only limited by what they can obtain.

~Rules~

1. Multiple characters allowed.
2. Begin posting when a character has been accepted & an opening post has been made for you to respond to.
3. Characters can be killed off.
4. As stated earlier, adherence or strict reference to actual history is not required.
5. New characters can be made at any time. There is no limit beyond what you think you can handle.

~Trivia~

The title comes from, of course, the practice of adding "esque" to the end of a word to make it an adjective, but also from a track on Final Fantasy Tactics that, oddly enough, has nothing to do with the orient.

Name: Laurence Smith
Age: 32
Appearance: Laurence has long hazel hair pulled into a pony tail and a hazel beard he keeps trimmed. He often wears a tan kimono under his forge apron.
Class: Swordsman and Smith
Bio: Born on an English ruled colony, Laurence took the first boat out in search of fortune in his early teens. Traveling the world as a blacksmith, Laurence visited many places, spending only a year or two learning the culture and language. He was 25 when he finally reached Japan.
For 7 years Laurence spent his time selling pots, horse shoes, mundanes to the common folk, freelance repair work for the Samurai, and an under-the-table dealer of weapons and tools for the Shinobi.
His most hospitable customers even trained him.
Weapons: Laurence keeps at least 4 throwing knives in his kimono at all times, even at work, and a Daisho pair(katana and wakizashi) he crafted himself that he keeps hidden in his forge.
Notes: Laurence never lets his customers know he works both sides of the conflict. His trainers are all in secret, and thus no one really knows he practices Kenjutsu.

This isn't a pointless bump, I swear. I just need to know if there are people who are actually interested in this. I don't want it to be sitting in Limbo for ages waiting for sign-ups only for me to realize, too late, that I should just go ahead & start with what I have.

Edit: Damn it, guess I'll have to start under these conditions, although I'd really rather not. I'll put my character(s?) in here ASAP & then start this shit alongside the .hack//RPG. I guess I'll just have to hope that it picks up momentum soon thereafter.

Alright, let's be honest here, this one's never getting off the ground either. Mark it for deletion.
