View Full Version : Glitchy Forum behavior

Hey all.

I ran into two particular issues. I don't know if they are specific to a certain thread or the forum in general or just my account/ISP.

A: Whenever I try to post, it would post it, but it would also take me back to the screen and say that I can't post twice in the same time frame and need to wait 30ish seconds. Basically, sometimes when I try to post, it would attempt to do so twice in the same exact instant with one button press.

B: There is a particular thread where I can't view any pages past a certain point. I tried logging off and I tried shortening the number of posts per page. When I got 45 posts per page, I can only view the first page, but not the second. When I got fewer posts per page (10 per page by signing off), I could view the first and second, but not pages 3-6. I'm thinking that one of the posts is glitching me up or something.

http://www.nuklearforums.com/showthread.php?t=38323&page=1#post1058172

I view the thread very often for the roleplay, so this is quite an inconvience.

I tried deleting cookies, I tried restarting, and I tried viewing the site while logged in and not.

There seem to be other people posting in that thread, so I think it might be isolated to me.

Any thoughts?

EDIT: I noticed that the posts that I CAN view are the ones prior to the downtime. Anything after the forum came back on, I can't seem to view.

EDIT: I just realized that the only posts I can view at this point in that thread belongs to me and AB (the one who made the thread). Everyone else's posts seem to have disappeared from my view!

EDIT: I also posted in the thread after I noticed this, hoping it might trigger something and I could go back to viewing it normally. No such luck. Basically, I'm stuck at only being able to view my posts and the posts of the thread's creator, and only up to the point where the thread was when the forum crashed and when into downtime.

EDIT: This glitchy behavior doesn't seem to be occuring in the other threads though...

I have the same problems. I can't get past page 2 in the thread, and the same posting problem has also occurred several times.

I just PMed Dracorion, who also goes to the thread just as frequently and he seems to be having the same problem.

Is there a way to make a duplicate of that thread without deleting any of the content so we can delete that particular one?

Hmm very weird that it is only affecting that one thread. Rebuilding counters, thread information and forum information, then running a query to repair & optimize tables. After that it should work. Gonna take a little while though so bear with me. :[

Very very weird. It won't update even with my test post. I'm going to have to look into it later.

Copy all the information and remake the thread is my currect suggestion. Strangely, when I ran the updater, it....shortened the length of the thread. I'm not even gonna pretend to understand wtf happened there.

I see your test post in the thread. We lost alot of info with the missing 3 pages, so we may as well start a new thread.

I CALL DIBS ON NEXT THREAD! Barring the sudden return of AB.

I'm very curious to find out what caused that. Hopefully it is the only one.

The thread is still sorta weird... Yeah, let's start a new one. Bard, find a pokemon/homestuck pic and take us away.

THIS INTERMISSION WAS BROUGHT TO YOU BY POKEMON UMBRAL! 4000 DISCUSSION POSTS. 700 RP POSTS. ABSOLUTELY NO STANDARDS.

For some reason, my SHINY NEW Mozilla Firefox keeps crashing. The only time this happens is when I attempt to 'refresh' these forums (specifically with the F5 key). I've no idea why, but sitting through reporting the errors is kind of annoying. As is losing a nearly loaded movie.

I couldn't say...sorry dude. The software code didn't malfunction and we have no fragmented or corrupted structure on our SQL so unless you can give me more specifics I'm afraid you'll have to downgrade or somethin'.

Wh-wh-whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...? You can't fix my every little computer issue?!? Well what good are you?!?

Nah, really it's totally understandable. Thanks for looking. Actually it hasn't happened the last several times I've tried (though I haven't tested it too thoroughly). It may very well be - and probably is - something wrong on my end, as my really slow laptop (which I'm using now) doesn't seem to have that particular problem (it has it's own... it's old). Weird that it's only these forums, though. Anyhoo, thanks for all the hard work you put into this stuff!

EDIT: I love your sig. I've meant to tell you several times and have forgotten. It's fun to get great quotes from Smarty!

Bumping this thread 'cause it's kind of a glitchy behavior?

Often when browsing forum sections, I'll view a thread or make the last post in an active thread and then leave to another section. However, the thread will retain the "unread new posts" icon [and a bold font if I am viewing that section's thread list]. Even if I go back into the thread and then out again it seems to stick. Manually clicking "mark forum read" will resolve it, but I shouldn't have to.

And it's not every thread, nor is it consistent. Thoughts?

Click into the forum itself and then back to the main page.

It's been that way for as long as I remember. :B

Yeah I think that's an error in the forum software itself and not so much the machine.

Also: clock will be fixed later. Derp.

It probably has been around for a while, but for some reason it's bugged me lately. It's not a big deal, though -- I was more looking for affirmation that it happens to others or a clue if it was something I was doing.

It's happening to me too, and it's slightly different from normal, you're right that it's always happened if I go right back to the main page, but now it seems to stay marked even if I go back to the forum like normal and only loses it's new post status when I hit Mark Forums Read. And like Synk it's inconsistent, but seems to happen more often with threads I've posted in.
