My old music library got wiped out by computer viruses. I got everything back up and running right, and have all my antivirus and whatever taken care of, thats not what this thread is about.
This thread IS about how now my music folder is empty and I am a sad panda. I've already gone and replaced all the stuff I like enough to keep CD's on (Muse, Gorillaz, MCR, Daft Punk and a few others). Anyone have any ideas for bands I should try listening to? I'll listen to pretty much anything that isn't country or rap, and even some rap I can deal with. No country though. Just... no country.
So, any ideas?

You could always get into Chinese/Korean hip-hop-inspired dance pop. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7MHZpSNJQc)

Actually just got me a lot of Maximum the Hormone (The japanese metal band that did the intro to Death Note's second season) so Im good on foreign gibberish music I don't understand.
Also, a guy on steam pointed me towards Pendulum, which is amazing. Anyone into techno/electronica should look them up in the youtubes. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZ9JT1WOGjk)

Check out Venetian Snares' Cavalcade of Glee and Dadaist Happy Hardcore Pom Poms. (It's uh, an album)
VSnares is (mostly instrumental) electronica of varying styles. And I have no idea which ones because I don't care.
It's probably not exactly your taste because It appears to be no one's but mine and all the other people who buy his albums. But worth giving a try.
My favorite Track (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hU_NRegd82w)
Another nice track from the same album called Pwntendo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3CSzXzELjo)
EDIT: On second thought, maybe his My Downfall (Official Soundtrack) album is much more accessible, since it's the least breakcore-y of his records. (I don't pretend to know, what this actually means, I'm just echoing the wikipedia article)
EDIT2: Seriously, the guy claims his real name is Aaron Funk. That's how you know it's awesome.

You might try Zombina and the Skeletones. They aren't like any of the bands you mentioned, but you never know. They're a horror genre of music.
song that got me into them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-So4wMPtOAE
Another good one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQ2E8-XoeLU
Along the same lines but with a different sound is Nekromantix:

Here's some House music from Deadmau5 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QV8eiSA4vqc) if you're into that kind of stuff.
Also, one of my most favorite video game tracks (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkeOtMNMmFQ), from Rise to the Challenge (a Super Mario World hack). Soundtrack download here (http://www.sendspace.com/file/8mgqfg).
And a major seconded to the people who recommended 311 and Sugar Ray =)

So save for things you backed up onto CD, this thread is about what music to recommend you to pirate, yeah?
Your library would be fine if you'd bought the music. I find this amusing.
Also I suppose now you've learned to back up your data!

Or, ya know, he could actually have bought the music digitally. That's totally a thing people do. Not necessarily saying he did, but it happens. I've done it, and lost that very music.
EDIT: Or he could have just lost the discs. As someone who has moved a lot, that's happened to me plenty of times, too.

So digital music stores don't record when an account has bought a song and leave you high and dry should you ever lose the file, unable to just re-download it?
ha ha ha
That's terrific if that's how it is. Good game, music stores.

OR he could have been sent stuff from friends over something like MSN or whatever. I think the first 100 tracks I ever aquired were given to me like that. Or he could have taken stuff from other peoples librarys by other means, I know my iPod has a thousand tracks copied directly from friends hardrives.
And no before you ask, that's not illegal pirating; both msn file sharing and Ipod copying are built into their products as standard. It's no different than ripping straight from a disk, which by the way you can do an unlimited number of times on an infinite number of computers which makes copying songs an inherently easy thing to do by just about anyone and which record companies make no effort to stop so why the fuck they complain when nobody makes any effort what so ever to stop people is beyond me.

Hypothetically there are a lot of ways I could be planning to acquire this music that are perfectly legal, which is why this isn't a discussion on HOW to get music, just what music to Legally Acquire at a Legitimate Retail Establishment.
Thanks for the suggestions guys. Its good to have more then 30 songs on a playlist. That gets old.
EDIT: PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT KIDS! Pirating music is bad, and 80% of people who do it DIE the first time! Don't let it happen to you!
