Okay so after listening to the epicness that is Lufia 2 - The Last Duel (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_wTNxseBTQ&feature=PlayList&p=A3051691745D4DE1&playnext=1&index=45), I've been somewhat hooked on bringing out my inner nerd and finding new, good video game music. Only thing is that I'm somewhat new to this. Anyone have some good suggestions? Oh and I hope I have this thread in the right section haha. And links to specific tracks are always good too =)

My favorite video game music cover band has been the NESkimos (http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=91259&content=music), who have done quite a few covers and they're (almost) all available for free on their Soundclick page. Their rendition of Grape Garden from Kirby's Adventure for example is pretty awesome, or Snake Man from Mega Man 3.

There is also Powerglove but their library is much smaller and they're not free. Also those are both bands that use heavy metal (for the most part) to do the covers, so what you like music-wise may be different.

If you mean "what specific songs from what specific games are awesome?", though, I'd say that's partially up to what games you like, since it's hard to say "this song is awesome" when you can't make the connection with whatever situation it was played in in whatever specific game. Like Glenn's Theme from CT is cool and all but it's even cooler if you've actually seen Glenn split a wall with a magic sword or whatever.

Try and grab some Illusion of Gaia Music. Also Cavestory!

The theme from Super Mario Land is my favorite of the Mario music. I'm convinced that it was the inspiration behind the 'Woody's Roundup' song from Toy Story 2.

Guilty Gear's got some awesome rock/metal music, also I suggest "Emperor: Battle of Dune" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y71hhVlktPM) as well.

Last Duel is your song of choice from Lufia 2? Personally, my favorite is probably "Maxim/For the Savior" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbQL_b18Wzc&feature=related) or the Sinistral boss music (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBnYGYa6l3M).

Anywho, as for games that have good music, without needing the emotional attachment of the game's events (It helps for certain game soundtracks, like most of the Suikoden series (Though this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULGa2X6ZPP4) is pretty awesome)), I'd say Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross have pretty steller soundtracks. Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CfE8lwSaFs) are (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaK3WZg16-o) some (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=laMvJf9UNdc) of (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-ttyCzHVSc) my (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJeRRzhVGrs&feature=PlayList&p=18AB71ABC1C0B3A4&playnext_from=PL&index=0&playnext=1) favorites (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bb4YB0ia46w&feature=related).

Guild Wars soundtracks are full of awesome.

I've also been very impressed with Shadow Hearts: Covenants' music.

I'm a big fan of the Tales (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpkV3MHdQmo) of Legendia (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTvPg89TIMI) music.

Also Final Fantasy 8 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2vpqd9gKXk) music. I recommend the piano (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3mLj2iQir8) collections (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EIVzGruSeM), too.

I'll be here all day if I list off all of my favorite stuff. So. I'll limit it to three series.

1) Fire Emblem (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zN61ymJyPk&feature=related) has some great (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuSwFJm90FA&feature=related) music (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtV5diYtQgE) for all of your listening needs.

2) SimCity 3000 has lots of ambient beats to relax to. You really can't go wrong with it, and the soundtrack is freely available from EA itself. (http://simcity.ea.com/coolstuff/sc3k_music/index.php) In particular I recommend SIM Broadway and South Bridge.

3) Age (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsRwyyg5cN4&feature=related) Of (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LddFSPFG_I&videos=RFPHN3iDg_M) Empires (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5joA9cjRKO4) has probably the finest examples of music I've ever heard from a video game. Simply magnificent.

If good vidya game music appeals to you,
might I suggest some Mega Man Two (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8Ao63nmzuE)?
You can't go wrong with Metal Man's (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7y82DgpgrC0) theme, (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_JDzMPtC27k)
and Wily 2-1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJRoRt155mA) is right up there with Queen.

I said it before and I will say it again:

Ace (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyEGYMeGEqs) Combat (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9b2kHSUy52w) has (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtZWXy9I_EI) some (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1Qkzj5bStU) great (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXoBxeyZitk) music (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKDzOnRydWk).

Hey thanks for all the input so far guys. I'm really liking how epic/calm/fast these all are sounding. Now I just gotta sift through all of these new songs (new partly seeing as how I haven't played most of the games talked about Mega Man 2 included *ducks*). And on that too, I never realized how great a lot of MM2's music was either.

In my experience, all that counts is volume volume volume
Hm now if you want some moar volume, then here's DMC1 Psycho Siren (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxBiJQ5NcMM) (turn down your speakers a bit), and epic bass version of Imperishable Night's Night Bird (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jf-8tlo0fiM) if you haven't already heard these yet.

Don't forget Home Sweet Grave.

And you sure as hell bet I downloaded Home Sweet Grave after hearing it for like 15 minutes straight in I Wanna Be The Guy haha.

But anyway, besides the ones you guys have already said, here are some of my personal favorites too:

Mother 3 - Hard Rain (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGm3bkPZELU)
Wind Waker - Forest Haven (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4X8QbyzkgbQ)
Rudra No Hihou (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYqlATk-9tY)
Rockman and Forte (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwmMlVM68qc)
Mirror's Edge (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQ5SdMaQ0Dk)
Rise to the Challenge (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkeOtMNMmFQ)

Oh yeah and if someone knows what song this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCBgYh4GI5A) is that would be really helpful too. I assume it's from SMT: Nocturne.

Surprised no one's linked OCRemix (http://ocremix.org/)yet. So here you go, it's not the actual songs from the games, but rather a massive collection of remixes based on music from games.

Also Donkey Kong (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J67nkzoJ_2M) Country 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlFYSIyAGmA&feature=related) has far more epic music (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Qp0_NE8M1c) than most serious high budget RPGs, despite being a comedic light hearted platformer.
