Someone, presumably an executive with a heart of blackest pitch, decided this needed to exist. (http://www.tvguide.com/News/Fairly-Oddparents-Movie-1020888.aspx)

Jason Alexander is Cosmo. Drake Bell is a 23 year-old Timmy.

Then I read the article.

What...What is wrong with people? This idea actually makes me want to weep.

Wow I cringed after reading "Live-Action", but 23-year-old Timmy? REALLY? I don't think you could get any dumber than that and yet I'm sure I'll be proven wrong. I mean, aren't godparents only supposed to be there while you're a kid?

People for one...this is Nickelodeon...they are screwing with VOLTRON for crying out loud and going to make it a Nicktoon with PsychoFool PukeToilet (AKA> Spongebob Squarepants)...I lost respect for Nickelodeon YEARS AGO.

This is just a new low in a network that seems hellbent on rotting the brains of kids with garbage. >_> I miss the good old days when Nickelodeon showed quality kid's programming (product of the 80's and early 90's when Animation in the US was still good and didn't need to rely on Dark Themes or Toilet/Idiot Humor).

Flare> Nickelodeon is in Orlando.

That's the point. Like, he's 23, but he still wants to be a kid so that he could keep his fairy godparents.
But then he sees a chick and has to choose between keeping his fairy godparents or getting his bone on.
That's the plot of the movie basically.

Just... damn.

Also T.U.F.F. Puppy, created and executive produced by Nickelodeon hit-maker Butch Hartman, follows the gung-ho, dim-witted dog named Dudley Puppy who is thrust into the role of "hero" when recruited by the super secret crime fighting organization, T.U.F.F. (Turbo Undercover Fighting Force) to protect his hometown against the evil animal organization, D.O.O.M. (Diabolical Order of Mayhem). T.U.F.F. Puppy is produced at the Nickelodeon Animation Studios in Burbank, Calif.

This, and also that all oil tycoons are inherently bad.

So, our story:
A twenty-three year old man is still attending 5th grade classes.

He sees a woman and lusts after her and must decide - because it's difficult to decide, here - whether following through with this is better than sitting in 5th grade classes, surrounded by ten year old children, all the time.

And oil tycoons, being inherently evil, steal his reason for remaining in 5th grade.

This... is awful in every way. I know what their message is supposed to be (that it's okay to grow up, eventually you need to put childish fantasies behind you, etc), but this... this is so horrid on so many levels! This is not the proper technique for this lesson!

This looks like a great movie. Will probably be MUCH better than Inception.

Our mix of live-action and special effects animation will make them look 'hyper-real'

I mean come on. 'Hyper-Real'? Damn I'd have been happy with 'real but 'Hyper-Real'?! This movie is taking Hollywood to a whole different level.

There are all the points you guys made that are pretty obvious ones. We know that this will be terrible, it's a fact. Making a TV live action movie of a cartoon is guaranteed to suck.

But what drives me insane is how many times are they going to do this plot?! We have had SO many stories that involve Timmy getting panicked about having to grow up, leave the Godparents, and get on with his life. It was done way better in that ANIMATED TV movie, Channel Surfers. There is absolutely no way for this to bring anything remotely interesting or new to the table, short of "LOOK THEY'RE PEOPLE NOW"

M. NIGHT SHYAMALAN.

Fixed that for ya. Yeah, I'm still not over the disaster that was The Last Failbender.

Dragonball Evolution. Cowboy Bebop. The Last Airbender. Fairly Oddparents. Is it just me, or is Hollywood TRYING to piss the world off?

Purists won't like the movies because of the director's inevitable narcissistic God-complex drives them to dick with the source material. Normal moviegoers won't like the movies because to be honest, they're trying to make a movie from a story that was never meant to be a movie in the first place, and they're doing a damned bad job at it. Generally, the only ones who tend to enjoy these utter shitfests are either so beyond high on something that they'd enjoy eating barium meal, or so unaware of what a good movie actually is that they'd gleefully sit through a Julia Roberts movie marathon. Ugh.

but why Fairly Oddparents, even by modern animated standards it was goofy and wacky, that was the point. 90% of the humor was visual, which is next to impossible to do with live-action. Avatar, DBZ, those can atleast work in theory (obviously not in practice), but even in theory this fails. Can you think of one scene, a single scene comedy or otherwise in the entire series that could work in live action? I cant

Nor can I. Fairy Oddparents as old school animated comedy brought to kids of this generation, most of whom I thought couldn't enjoy the humor and would still prefer to laugh at toilet jokes and garbage like that. The person who is now King of Hell in place of Satan is whoever thought this Live Action movie was a good idea.

I found something I'd rather watch Sharktopus instead of...and Made for SyFy movies hurt my head to watch.

To be fair, if they actually cast Carlos Alazraqui for it, the movie would have at least one redeeming factor.

But I mean that would require them to do something right and this is the Fairly Oddparents Movie starring Drake Bell so they're probably going to get Cedric the Entertainer or something.

Lay it on us Fusionman!

Yes Kyanbu! Well in Channel Chasers Timmy used the fast forward button to make himself older until he loses his fairies getting rid of the remote and stopping Vicky from taking over the world. OF COURSE! When Timmy goes to 16 he loses his fairies. Let me say this again. According to CANON he loses Cosmo and Wanda at 16!! Also at the end of that movie we saw 30 year old Timmy with two kids. Each of them were around 8. Yep. Hartman raped his own timeline. I didn't know that was possible.

Kyanbu The Legend
07-29-2010, 12:34 AM
Unless he found away around that rule, He shouldn't even remember who his fairies are or that he even had any. Of course even then the fact that he had kids that were 8 when he was 30 still roles out the chances of this movie making any sense.

Fusionman

Well then we agree. Hartman ruined his own timeline. WTF? Why would you kill your own timeline?! Isn't that the point of being the head writer!? Sorry. This movie pisses me off. I admit. Tootie's actress doesn't make me angry though. Daniella Monet otherwise known as Trina Vega in Victorious. Your thoughts Kyanbu and others?

Kyanbu The Legend
07-29-2010, 01:09 AM
The very idea of it being live action erks me. But if it was going to be done like Scott Pilgrim or Loony Toons back in action, then maybe I'd give a chance.

But then timmy's going to be 23 which is rather ridiculous and the plot while somewhat true his character to an extent, seems bad already.

Those are really the only things that bother me about this flic. I don't follow movies much if not at all so I don't know enough about the actors/actresses to like or hate them aside from what I hear or read from others.

Actually, Fusionman, this could work fine.

"I wish I never have to grow up and lose you two."

Wish creates the paradox world, just like Timmy already had to stop Vicky in Channel chasers to change the future. Making this wish screwed with things, and the end of this feature-length farce will probably end with the typical "I wish I never made that wish" time will re-write itself and it'll end with em hookin' up. Bam, movie.

It was established awhile ago that its mental age not physical that decides when you lose them. Back when he wished himself as an adult it was his regression to mindset of a child that allowed him to wish himself back, and later he wished for merely "the body of an 18 year old" and retained full access to his fairies.

But this is a live action movie so I doubt they'd actually give a reason

Internal consistency? What happened to Trixie being a closet tomboy? It was the main plot point of one episode then never mentioned again! This could have made great stories.

Let's face it...Nickelodeon and Hartman want to commit Franchicide. Franchicide is when someone kills a Franchise. Most infamous and recent example...Highlander: The Source. None of the actors involved in the original Highlander series wanted any part of that but someone talked them into it.

The fans watched and rejected it (including me and my mother) and both the fanbase and the actors refuse to acknowledge it as Canon and blame it for killing the Highlander Franchise.

This has the potential to burn and be rejected like Highlander: The Source.
