View Full Version : David Zindell/The Lightstone Series Question/What's Up With Unavailability?

So I got this book at a dollar store called The Lightstone by David Zindell and unlike the majority of epic fantasy books it actually has really good prose and reminds me of the Silmarillion (a little bit) and all around actually seems pretty good/awesome. I went to Barnes and Noble to get the rest of the series, but found out I'd have to special order it. I thought this was really odd since the Lightstone appears to have come out in 2006 and was really well written, to boot.

So I did a little research on the internet about this David Zindell guy and apparently he has a pretty large following but despite being American is much more popular in Europe, and you can't find his books except ordering them online. It's really quite weird.

Anyway, for any of you European members who read fantasy books and ALSO happen to have read David Zindell (dunno who matches this), or anyone over on this side of the ocean who has also been reading him, since I have to order these things I had a question:

According to some reviews, there are four Ea cycle books, others there are five. I THINK this is because the American version The Lightstone actually collects two books, The Ninth Kingdom and The Silver Sword, but I've read at least one review that says that The Silver Sword is the sequel to "The Lightstone", so I'm sort of confused. Anyway, I don't want to order the same book again, nor do I want to miss out on a second book if it's required, etc. So if anyone can clarify this for me it'd be appreciated. Also if you want to talk about how you like David Zindell or whatever that's cool too, but I've only read the one book, plus from what I've read from people's complaints they like his science fiction better (for some reason).
