I...

I...

Look at it yourself... (http://www.treehugger.com/files/2010/08/gop-candidate-bike-sharing-program-unconstitutional-video.php)

I mean seriously? I thought people were kidding when they said the Teabaggin Party was a group of right wing nuts, but how in the world can you really be against a bike sharing program that helps the environment, that allows people to get more in shape... All for a stupid conspiracy theory?

A plot so well disguised it doesn't even look like a plot at all at any distance.

This guy must have an allergy to being specific about anything at all.

UN! Boogaboogaboo.

Obviously sharing stuff is unconstitutional. How are you supposed to know if you own more property than the next guy if everyone goes around lending things to each other for little or no profit? It's a short slippery slope to COMMUNISM, I tell ya.

It's true, piracy is just indiscriminate sharing.

Because sharing is communism, duh.

And I thought I could be the cool guy who makes the link to communism first, but I've got beaten to it by two people already.

You can't even toss around wild, baseless, perhaps satirical, accusations these days anymore without copying someone else.

So I guess who ever punctured the tire of my bike did it as a political statement opposing THE UN COMMUNITY.

Really what confuses me the most out of all his idiotic ramblings was the allusion to it being harmful to any group of Americans to be part of a "U.N. community." I mean, last I checked (which was like two minutes ago just in case I missed out on some Earth shattering news this last week) the US was still part of the United Nations. Charter member in fact. Since when is it dangerous to America to be part of something America founded?

Actually, disliking the UN or wanting the US out of the UN completely is a pretty standard thing for conservatives. We've got a big-ass billboard where I live that says "Get US out of the UN"

Since when is it dangerous to America to be part of something America founded? Yeah, the biggest question that I just couldn't shake was whenever he mentioned the part about the "U.N. Community" I was thinking, "What does that even mean??"

I can't help but wonder if there is in fact a reason he believes that "U.N. Community" equals "bad" or if he's trying to invent a new buzzword to get riled up about.

@danmaes Hey, I'm a Dutchman. I noticed you were being stupid about a bike-sharing program? What the hell? Also, UN-community? What?

@danmaes I mean, apart from the fact that the US was a founding member of the UN... what the hell?

Not like I'm gonna get any kind of answer, but if I do, I'll keep ya posted. ;)

And women. AMIRITE!?

Honestly, my favourite part is how he implies that as the bike sharing is a part of a larger UN program, that it is actually part of a larger insidious plot from the UN. Then when asked "What is this UN plot that worries you?" he kind of looks around and doesn't answer the question.

Seriously, we should start requiring that interviews with politicians follow either a "yes or no" format so they can't even try to spin their way out of saying stupid things.

My issue is that the UN is so fundamentally inept and incompetent there is no way they could run a worldwide conspiracy to take over the US.

Or maybe the One World Government just wants to look as corrupt and stupid as possible until the moment they reveal the secret plans they've been working on behind the scenes in an ultimate act of subterfuge to decent capitalism and democracy?

Maybe rather than purposely disguising their plot with incompetence the plot is the cause of the incompetence.

Look at it this way; you can have a plot to conquer the world, or you can be an effective multinational organization devoted to the betterment of mankind.
There's no way you can have enough funding to do both, and guess which the U.N picked.

I'm contacting Jack Van Impe about this New World Order plot right now! Surely it will bring about the end of days and he needs to make a 30 dollar DVD telling me all about it!

I'm still looking for lie detector tests for politicians, they don't prove anything per se, but we should at least see the results.

Lie detector tests can be irreparably broken by clenching your sphincter. I don't know why they even bother anymore. It's pretty much common knowledge they don't work.

When you say "clench your sphincter" do you mean tighten it up, or do you mean with your hand?

It may be very important.

I honestly find this overall less insulting than the typical rightwing attempt to treat sharing and concern for the public good as some kind of heinous affront to decency. Probably because it was such an unrefined, overt attempt.

When Dan Maes starts going on about affirmative-action bicycle-queens and citing dubious statistics about immigrant bicycle gangs and how unSAFE bicycles are compared with gargantuan, CO2-spewing SUVs, you'll know he's ready for primetime.

Actually, disliking the UN or wanting the US out of the UN completely is a pretty standard thing for conservatives. We've got a big-ass billboard where I live that says "Get US out of the UN"The UN thing seems to come directly from the Left Behind series, where the leader of the UN is the Anticrist and uses it to set up his OWG. So that explains the conservative paranoia about it sorta

Best way to describe the Left Behind series I have ever seen! It's a badly written fanfiction of the Book of Revelations! Complete with it's own Mary Sue and Anti-Sue and things not even found in the original source!

Too much Left Behind on my part thanks to the Slacktivist blog. Must admit the series did a lot for the popularity of the idea, though.

I'm still waiting on Twilight cults to start popping up but the infighting between the Edwardian and Jacobite factions seems to be keeping them truly organizing.

Anyway, I really hope to hear more of this idiot from Colorado. The more he talks, the more likely it is that his opponent will win.

Sadly, there already are some. Apparently they believe Stephanie Meyer is God and that she created the entire Twilight universe, which is a rather literal way of thinking of authorship, making it not entirely untrue if you think about it. :ohdear:

I think you're overestimating the extent to which that would be a bad thing. I mean, worst case scenario, they're rabidly in love with both causes but as a result don't have the energy to pursue either. And that's assuming the SMeyer worship and the Tea Party remain relevant about twenty years down the line.
