View Full Version : Breaking news! Glenn Beck is still an ass!
Glenn Beck will be holding a rally in front of the Lincoln Memorial the same day that Martin Luther King Jr did... (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100826/ap_on_en_tv/us_dc_rally_glenn_beck)
I think my brain is trying to eat itself. Glenn Beck is saying it wasn't on purpose, but I doubt anyone is stupid enough to believe that. He also says it won't be political. I doubt anyone is stupid enough to believe that. He says they're "reclaiming the civil rights movement" and I know there are motherfuckers stupid enough to believe that.
I honestly can't wait for this fucking rally because it will give Beck's detractors so much to work with.

Glenn's rally might be apolitical... in that you have to be able to have a coherient and internally logical thought in order to form actual political opinions.

And we all know The Tea Party is incapable of any of that. Their logical is circular at best and when shown that, they will call you a Liberal and tell you that you are going to hell and that Obama is the Antichrist while waving their sign of him done up as The Joker or Hitler.
Surprised they aren't having Fred Phelps speak there too. I figured he'd fit right in!

I actually knew about this for some time. We'll just have to wait until morning to see how bad of a disaster it is.

You scared me for a second.

Well, I mean, let's not generalize. The rational tea party argument presents, surprisingly, valid concerns . Unfortunately the execution of their arguments come out as incredibly bigoted and ethnocentric. They are trying to address what would usually only require mild concern with the imagined need for open hostility. Also, does the white-christian-right really need a civil rights movement? Seriously?

Is this gonna be broadcast live? I imagine FOX will try to spin this as the greatest triumph in the history of ever once it's done and over with, but will I be able to watch it all go down as it happens?
EDIT: If I heard the morning news right, it starts at 10 AM EST aka 1 hour from this edit. STILL no idea if/how I can watch it all go down.
EDIT EDIT: CNN just showed Palin talking. They played five minutes of live footage and I honestly don't think she said anything. I mean, there was something about 'DA TROOPS' being a source of good for America, but anyone who would say otherwise would be commiting political suicide.

back when he was just on radio with a small audience and told things in a more rational manner where you were like "ok, thats reasonable. I can see where he's comming from".
That Glenn Beck died a long time ago when Fox bought him up.

I find it amusing that Beck, a Mormon, calls for this nation 'to return to its CHRISTIAN ROOTS'...when he belongs to a denomination that some of the more conservative Evangelical branches don't consider to be part of Christianity at all. Guess he better choose wisely which group gets to lead his fundamentalist American theocracy.
I saw bits and pieces of this throughout my workday, and I was amused by Beck quoting bits of LDS church theology as factual history (I think he mentioned that God was speaking to the Native Americans as well as to the Jews).
But overall this struck me as a bunch of terrified people trying to find something to cling to as they are unable to cope with change in any way, shape or form. They can't deal with the fact that the US is in hard times because of stupid decisions on the part of previous administrations (especially the Reagan and both Bush admins), that the US has become more diversified and that their kind of people will not be the ones running this country for much longer.
The constant mentioning of AMERICA WILL FIX EVERYTHING also made me sick. This new version of 'White Man's Burden' Beck was glorifying is something horrible and frightening.

Oh wow. Check out the ego on Beck. (http://mediamatters.org/research/201008260005)
Beck says his 8-28 rally will be "the Woodstock of the next generation." On the August 19 edition of his radio show, Beck described his rally as "the Woodstock of the next generation." Beck further explained that just as "Woodstock inspired a generation," his rally "could be a new generation's defining moment." He also "guarantee[d]" his audience that if they don't attend, they "will say, 'Oh crap, I wish I would've been there.' "
Beck: "Maybe in a 100 years from now or 200 years from now ... this will be remembered as the moment America turned the corner." On the June 8 edition of his radio show, Beck asked his audience to "bring your children with you" to his rally, claiming it will be "an image for the history books." He went on to suggest that he believed that "maybe in a 100 years from now or 200 years from now" the event "will be remembered as the moment America turned the corner." He added, "I believe this is the pivot point."
Beck claims his rally will "grow the next George Washington and Abraham Lincoln." On his May 27 radio show, Beck urged his listeners to attend the August 28 rally, imploring them to join him "to set things right in [their] own li[ves]." Beck went on to suggest that attending the rally would help to "grow the next George Washington and Abraham Lincoln" and restore America.
Beck says his 8-28 rally will "reclaim the civil rights movement." On the May 26 edition of his radio show, Beck claimed that the civil rights movement "has been so distorted and so turned upside down. It is -- it's an abomination what has happened." He said that his rally would "be an iconic event" and that "this is a moment, quite honestly, that I think we reclaim the civil rights movement." Beck also stated that though, at the rally, "we're not going to talk about the issues of illegal immigration or anything that's happening in Washington," the attendees of the rally "will reclaim the civil rights moment. We will take that movement, because we were the people that did it in the first place."
Someone clue me in on exactly who Beck is thinking of when he uses 'we'.

I talked to a Mormon dude about Glenn Beck once, and how he felt about someone in his faith being so public. His response was pretty much an uncomfortable 'yeah, well, there's lots of Mormon's with a variety of political views. I don't want to say anything bad abou him personally, but to be honest he's a bit of a nut'. I thought that was pretty funny.
I saw bits and pieces of this throughout my workday, and I was amused by Beck quoting bits of LDS church theology as factual history (I think he mentioned that God was speaking to the Native Americans as well as to the Jews).
Well, I'll agree this is probably a poor tactic since most people of any faith (or none) find the claims of the Mormon church dubious, I think addressing his personal belife in those details as factual is a different issue.
Someone clue me in on exactly who Beck is thinking of when he uses 'we'.

Viridis' quote
THIS is the image America is giving of itself to the outside world. Thinking this and that will change THE WORLD FOREVER. Obviosly Glen Beck is a dellusional jackass. Not to mention stupid and an asshole. But nevertheless, this is the image the whole states manage to give (or have managed to give during the past several years) to the outside world. I know it's not an accurate discription of the actual US public & nation, but still it is the image that people in other parts of the world remember. That whole "we only care about ourselves, everyone else is wrong" -image.
Now please understand that his is not how I view your whole country, but this is the image that a lot (if not most) people here in my neighbourhood atleast have of your country. Glen Becks rally might end up having less effect than dog shit, but it will no doubt manage to give a bad image of your country to the rest of the world, if nothing else.

I get it, the whole thing. I just don't think many others do.
Edit: Osterbaum, it makes me distressed that Beck is how other countries see us. If I went to DC and punched Beck, would it help at all?

e: Viridis, no need to prove anything to me. I know enough allready to know better. But yes, atleast here this is the image many people have. And the thing is, it's not entirely false. Obviosly it's a gross generalisation, but still; Someone like Glen Beck would never get this much puplicity in Finland and would be largely ignored. I guess it's sort of a cultural difference.
If you punch him in the face and that makes it in to the news, it would propably cast a slightly better image. I mean, I'd like to punch him myself. So if you go and punch him in the face, tell him it's from me.

What you simple civilians don't understand is that many of the world leaders you hate so much aren't half as stupid as we pretend to be. We're just really good at trolling. Glenn Beck is secretly a democrat. So is Fox News.

Like the phony he is, I'm about 99% certain Zippy the Chimp was just a recording of a chimp rather than an actual chimp in Glenn Beck's studio.
I found it amusing that my local news managed to find the one black guy who wasn't at Al Sharpton's opposition rally to interview about how much he likes Tea Partying.

Nope. Drones sit around and suck resources. And also fuck things on occasion. Beck does just that: absolutely nothing unless it's fucking something.
Now if he was a worker, I'd agree with you. ;)
