Anyone else super excited for this? I've been excited about it ever since I saw Grindhouse (with its hilarious fake trailer (http://www.youtube.com/verify_age?next_url=http%3A//www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DW8cCzltPD6Y) [NSFW]) and then later heard that for Grindhouse 2 Rodriguez wanted to make action-exploitation movies with Tarantino instead of horror and make an actual Machete film.
For some reason Tarantino didn't get in on this (probably because Grindhouse bombed at the theater, for some reason I still don't get, you get to see two movies for the price of one and they're hilarious and one is by Tarantino for Chrissakes), but at least Rodriguez gets to make his Magnum Opus (well, maybe he won't ever surpass Desperado, he kind of blew his whole load on that one, but maybe, just maybe, he can do it, and I hope he can!).
Anyway, seeing it opening day (well, maybe Saturday, but y'know). Anyone else rearing to see it?

My mom was rather happy to hear about this and so am I. This should be a rather awesome movie just for all the action alone. Who cares about story!
Besides! When was the last time anyone put a gun on a motorcycle?

The French and it wasn't even a real motorcycle. It was a freaking Vespa! Look at how dorky that looks! Not to mention you are sitting on the gun.
As compared now too...

Machete just looks cooler with the minigun on the Harley! F-off your dorky French!

I don't think you get a story when the guy is mounting gain guns to Motorcycles and then firing them while jumping.

Exactly! And it looks awesome! *see my previous post for comparison to French idea of putting on a gun on a motorcycle*

There is a story, though it is satirical and basic:
Machete is an ex-Federale who is contracted by a supposed pro-immigration fellow to assassinate an anti-immigration political figure for $100,000, playing on Machete's sympathies for his fellow Mexicans. However, Machete is betrayed when he attempts the assassination by the same man who hired him, and it turns out the anti-immigration politician was using Machete to turn the populace against illegal immigrants by creating a fake assassination attempt against himself. Machete then has to take his revenge and kill everybody. Cue explosions.
What's great is the original concept actually came out prior to all the newest shenanigans with Arizona (though obviously anti-immigrant sentiment was around at that time, too), but is even more apt now.

Since it's the same actor and director, I at first was hoping it was about the bounty hunter/merc hired to kill Antonio Banderas in Desperado. This will still be terrific, though.

There's a tribute to Trejo's scene in Desperado in this one where he jumps up on a limo and starts throwing machetes in through the sunroof instead of knives, according to the trailer.

The only thing I'm not digging about it is Jessica Alba. There's something about Hollywood's way of casting female roles in action movies where they just pick the most currently famous actress who happens to match the race they're trying for. Why couldn't they dig up Salma Hayek for the lead role? That would've been awesome!
