I love civilization, and it looks like 5 is even better then 4, but I know from last time how much of my life it consumes. Its so addicting my first game I lost 10 hours playing it. So this isn't a question of if its good, its a question of whether or not its still digital crack

I polled my office yesterday considering it will destroy my research and consensus wasget it and don't be a pussy. Same advice to you.
I've heard the minimum requirements are not realistic and you need considerably better to run at a reasonable speed.

System requirements are D:, but it still looks fantastic at low settings. Multiplayer is awesome, with simultaneous turns, the civics system from Civ4 has been completely redone and is :D, culture is just cool, and this game is fucking fantastic. I've been playing Civ 3 on my eeePC forever, and wouldn't have transitioned to Civ4, but Civ5 would be the game to change to.

In short: Yes. Get it and don't be a pussy.

I already have 37 hours of playtime logged in my first week. Crack would be an understatement.

EDIT: Anyone here interested in a Civ night? We've already got a lot of people interested in L4D/TF2 events, and I wanted to see if it extended to other games as well.

How would a civ night work even? Unless they've changed it massively from previous games multiplayer games take forever

Yeah, it'd be more like a Civ month.

Civ V has simultaneous multiplayer; no harder to set up than any other game. Might have to make it a quick game though.

Even taking turns simultaenously it still hard to finish in a night- playing computer games take on the order of weeks for proper setups. I suppose it is doable if you chuck everyone on a tiny map with accelerated startups

But then it'd be boring and stupid.
