If it's got Craig Ferguson, then I'm willing to give it a chance.

Winnie the Pooh will feature five previously unadapted stories from the original books,[7] in the same style as previous Disney-produced Winnie the Pooh featurettes such as Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree and Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too!.[8]

Marley is a friendly alligator.

Presumably he was one of the characters in the original books.

They will weave together five unfilmed Winnie the Pooh stories and promise to bring in same humour found in the original A.A Milne books.

John Lasseter, Disney-Pixar’s chief creative officer, added that the designers would also be using watercolour backgrounds seen in earlier films.

Burny Mattinson, who worked on the original Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree in 1964, has been roped in as lead story artist.

I honestly don't know what you mean by "regular Pooh with better animation". :I

That alligator had better sound like Iago.

Considering that's how Gilbert Gottfried normally sounds, you shouldn't be worried.

Where's my regular Pooh with better animation?

That is actually exactly what this sounds like.

This is slightly tangential but everytime I see Gilbert Gottfried credited I have an immediate negative reaction not unlike nausea, and then I remember Iago and I'm ok again. But I mean seriously have you guys ever seen 'Problem Child'?

Gilbert Gottfried should do all the voices.

I honestly don't know what you mean by "regular Pooh with better animation".

You remember the Simpsons movie? And how it was like the Simpsons TV show but what with better animation? Something like that. Don't get me wrong - I actively go out of my way to find old videos on VHS rather than on DVD for the sole reason that I think some of them look better on a VCR. But I would like to see Pooh looking better than some of the other Pooh incarnations:

West High School? World Homosexuals?

...Like, man. The V isn't even close.

Also, I was going to defend Pooh Corner but then I watched the video so thanks for that

Wait.

HUH?!

They just do, okay? Like the old James Bond flicks, a bunch of old Disney stuff, Indiana Jones movies. You have to fix the tracking on the VCR and it's awesome.

Actually Seil has a point here - the low resolution of older films simply looks better played on a medium it was meant for. An old movie or show in the typical 480i format will look better on an older, Standard def tv than it will on a huge 1080p HD set.

Seil

Um... sure.

RickZarber

Granted, a 480i image will look better on a SD set than an HD set. (I would argue that the phrasing "low resolution of older films" is misleading, as 35mm film, no matter how old, contains at least 4k lines of resolution, and they were not "meant for" a 480i display. I figure you mean older releases of those movies, though. Just don't wanna give people the wrong idea.)

But I don't think that's what Seil is talking about. If I understand him (and please correct me if I'm wrong), he's saying that VHS copies of older films look better on a SD screen than DVD versions.

Google is totally failing me for VHS screencaps, or I'd post examples right now. ...Gimme a few days, all my VHS tapes are at my mom's place. I'll grab a few and then I'll come back with an argument against you. Maybe in a different thread? I feel like I've derailed this one enough with my videophile antics.

I'm just assuming Seil has a crappy tv.

It's not a matter of it actually looking better here, what with your "p's" and everything, but old flicks are fun to watch on old formats. I think movies like The Princess Bride benefit from being on VHS.

I mean WHS.

So you'd rather have your picture quality look like this:

GUYS VINYL IS WAY BETTER THAN CD CD COMPRESSES EVERYTHING VINYL IS WHERE IT'S AT THE HIGHS ARE HIGHER THE LOWS ARE LOWER THERE'S JUST SO MUCH MORE DEPTH

Actually that argument (supposedly maybe but not really) holds weight.

What Seil is doing though is kind of like listening to cassette tapes and saying they are better than CD.

Like I could argue the merits of dropping extra money on a Blu-Ray disc over a DVD but VHS over DVD? Are you kidding me?

Like if Seil was purchasing movies on actual film and playing them on a projector or something, maybe we could talk.

But yeah I have watched a few movies on VHS recently because I never got around to buying the DVD versions...would you buy the DVD version of Mortal Kombat?

No, I can see where Seil is coming from. I play all my PS1 games on my actual PS1, despite having a PS2 and PS3 perfectly capable of doing so. Why? Well, nostalgia has a lot to do with it. The noise of the PS1 just feels right with the PS1 games.

I think Seil feels the same way with his old vids. They're old and crappy and he loves them for their character.

Like I could argue the merits of dropping extra money on a Blu-Ray disc over a DVD but[...]Actually, Blu-rays are considerably cheaper these days. I get a lot of mine for around $10. $25 max. (Unless it's something like a box set or a Criterion release, but those are gonna be expensive regardless.) Plus, many of them come with DVD copies.

And to me (again--videophile) the difference between BD and DVD is actually more marked than DVD and VHS. I pretty much only buy Blu these days.

The only argument against I can offer is that bad Blu-ray transfers are, unfortunately, far more common and obvious than bad DVD transfers. Some studios are still employing DVD authoring techniques on their HD transfers, and the results are terrible: waxen features resulting from excess Digital Noise Reduction (which cannot distinguish between dirt and a film's natural grain structure--a physical feature of the film itself which contains all of the image's detail); followed by overzealous edge enhancement resulting in haloed objects and black "jaggies", macroblocking from poor compression, etc. It always pays to do the research before buying.
They're old and crappy and he loves them for their character.I guess I get that. It's just the insinuation that older films are inherently more suited for older formats that bugs me. (Not that that's what Seil is necessarily saying.)
