Sega has yet another Sonic game in the works. This one however is rather interesting.
"The next Sonic will be a compilation of the best classic levels, from Sonic the Hedgehog’s Green Hill Zone to Sonic Adventure 2, updated for current generation consoles. That means there will be a mix of 2D and 3D environments adapted for the game. How that mix will be adapted–be it 2D updated to 2.5 or even 3D, vice versa, or some combination of both–couldn’t be disclosed. What was disclosed is that game will be coming to the Playstation 3, Playstation Portable, the Nintendo Wii, and the Nintendo DS."
Well I have a new reason to not spend any of my PSN funds just yet.
We should make a Sonic Cycle tag for Sonic game news.

So, first they admit that they're making shitty Sonic games and rectify that by returning to their roots. Now they want to fuck it up by saturating the market? Good ol' Team Sonic. Always knows how to keep us disappointed.

This doesn't seem to be coming out for another couple years.
On that subject, Sonic Adventure 1 is now available for download on Xbox Live and PSN. Just throwing that out there, since I vaguely recall that one being pretty popular, even if they changed Robotnik's name to something dumb.

They didn't change Robotnik's name to Eggman, they changed Eggmans name to Robotnik when they brought the first game to America. Sonic Adventure decided to merge the two together for the rest of the series. For instance, Dr. Eggman's company in Sonic Riders is "Robotnik Corp".

Robotnik is an infinitely superior name to Eggman, and it doesn't matter if they're "combined" if all they ever call him is Eggman.

So, I bought and finished Sonic 4, and I thought I'd post my final opinion on it somewheres:
It has a lot of good points, but too many frustrations, and some lazy-as-fuck shit. Like, come on guys, reusing all the bosses from old games? And even Sonic 2 managed to have an ending cutscene.
Level design was pretty good, but I think there should have been more, shorter levels. You could have cut them all down by about a third and not really lost anything, so I'm guessing the only reason that they didn't was because it's easier to reuse backgrounds and tilesets. The super long levels also made getting to bonus levels kind of a huge pain in the ass. I would mind this less if there were a special Super Sonic stage or ending, but there isn't (unless you count a lame-ass silhouette of a villain we've known for over ten years). I mean, you could have at least given me Super Sonic leaping at the screen.
The mechanics are good, everything looks pretty and controls well, and the level design is pretty good. But just because it's episodic doesn't mean it shouldn't have some completeness to it. As it is, I think fifteen dollars is a bit too steep for the amount of content provided.
