Well that is odd. Did they have any promotions for it? Some ploy for the third one? I don't know, sounds odd to me at the moment.
But screw it, I'm doing it anyway, if they think it's a mistake or what not, then they can deal with it later. I always needed to complete my quest anyway. Awesome.
It's probably an error on their end, but that doesn't make it any less legal, and I haven't played Fable 2 so whatever.

According to Microsoft it's only Episode 1.
Really? Lame. I guess I'll find out for sure once it's finished downloading.

But the ending was the only good part.
FINALLY, a game that let's me interrupt the asshole's 'blah blah I'm so evil' speech with a bullet to the face.
Too bad about all that interim stuff.

I can save you the time and bandwidth.
It totally is.
EDIT: Lulz. You already probably finished the download. Didn't check the date and time. My bad!

So a bit more than a demo but not really the game, basically?

Pretty much.
Though now I've heard conflicting sources saying this IS (was, by now?) the full game... It probably isn't, but y'know.
That's what I've heard. I haven't checked yet because it's... well... Fable.

My belief that Fable is a series that tries to deconstruct the idea of the "folk tale hero" by every means possible, in that your character is less a hero and more a superpowered errand boy, at worst a superpowered Tykebomb. The original game played on the fact that as a hero, you could actually be a "hero" or a "villain" and the only truly heroic action that no sensible normal could do was destroy Jack, and even then you could still be a monster after the job was done, just a greater monster than Jack.
Fable 2 denies you any experience of being a real hero, because you have no real destiny, it's been forced upon you by two other characters. Your quest for revenge was placed upon you by another, directly by one and indirectly by another for reasons never revealed to you, and the entire scenario could have been avoided if you'd told Theresa to take her notblindness and shove it up her piehole. The next one suggests that it was all done so you'd become famous and popular yet again, and from there your family could become royalty for whatever reason.
So in 1, you were a folk hero (which didn't require you to actually be a hero) and in 2 you were an overglorified errand boy, an in 3 you're going to be a War/Revolutionary Hero, and will probably find out that your revolution was actually a gambit by another power to sow discord and dissent throughout the kingdom for other forces to prey on or for your brother to root out all opposition.
In Fable 3 I expect you to learn your brother has your wife and children held hostage, and when you go to rescue them, he hits a switch that takes away all of your magic and abilities, mind controls your family to kill you, and just as you're about to die, he shoots them all in the head, and then as he's about to kill you Theresa swoops in, says something mysterious about it not being your time, and teleports you out, then leaves because clearly you aren't meant to know anything she knows.
So, I finally started playing, and either the portion of the game that people say is unlocked is really long, or it's the full game for free. I am on my way to find the second hero. Also, this game's minigames are just... awful on levels rarely seen.

Welp, it's not there anymore, so full game or not, you have it.
Guess it was the full game because I beat it yesterday.
Verdict: It's an average adventure game with a lot of pointless gameplay elements. The minigames are pure shit through and through and anyone who disagrees is the most wrong person. There are times when some genius shines through and really impresses, but it's always not half as impressive as it could have been because there's always something that fucks it up.

I generally agree. Except there wasn't really anything that fucked up the ending. One of my favourite game endings in all of gaming, actually. Though that's not a terribly high pedestal, because like most other forms of media, game endings suck.
Eh, I've got plenty of game endings I thought were superior.

I might too, I just can't think of a single one immediately. Maybe Portal.

That was the worst game ending I've had to endure in a long time, fuck Reaver.

On that note Fable 3 is apparently pretty abysmal as well. Damn I was kinda thinking of buying it just to see if I could kill Reaver.
Man I'm pissed sealing Reaver in a pit with immortal sexually frustrated balverines wasn't one of the end game wishes. Fucker stole my kill. And killed BARNUM.
I actually killed whats-his-face at the end on accident. Out of habit, I pressed the gun button to pull out my gun so I could kill him when he was done, but the game interpreted that as just straight-up shooting him.
ALSO: I don't see why people get so pissed at the game. I mean, it's not a great game by any stretch of the imagination, but at the same time I'd say it isn't really awful either. It's right in the middle.

Fable to me seemed to be lacking a lot of the elements of RPGs that I enjoy, such as strategic battles, for instance. It just seemed like I hack and slashed my way through it, and it isn't particularly challenging. The reason for this is probably because it was developed for the XBOX console market, to take advantage of how one would play an RPG with dual control sticks and so on.
Fable 2 for instance hasn't even gotten a PC port, though I hear they are going to try and do one for Fable 3. But it's still being developed the console first and so I think people should realize that. Games like Fallout for instance are developed with the PC market in mind and are then ported to consoles. Fable is the exact opposite.
EDIT: Also NonCon the level of enjoyment you derived from it may be helped by getting it for free as opposed to full price. I've played lots of games I bought for five dollars and didn't have too much of a problem with, whereas other people hate them because they paid full price and felt cheated (for instance I got into an argument with my friend over the decency of Half-Life 2: Episode One, which he hated because it was so short. But then I realized that when he bought it was fairly expensive for such a short game, whereas I'd gotten it with the Orange Box so the fact that it was only four hours long didn't bother me, plus I got to jump into Episode Two immediately. So the price can affect how we react to games).

I'll agree to that I liked Fable 2 more than msot people seem to (the Barnum thing being the main thing that gets me angry) and I got it in a boxset with my 360 so not free but the price was absorbed by the console's so it felt like it was free.

This is why I practically never buy games anymore unless I'm pretty much guaranteed they'll be good. If I hadn't gotten it for free, I would have gotten it through Gamefly, which would have absorbed the cost that way. I never really have a hard time hating games I get free or from Gamefly. While paying sixty dollars for a mediocre game might make the player more pissed off, I'm inclined to attribute that to poor judgment on the player's part than the actual quality of the game.
