View Full Version : Interest thread for a New Vegas LP

Always wanted to do an LP on here and I think Fallout: New Vegas would be perfectly appropriate for me. Just a few things I thought I'd discuss with people ahead of time.
Mostly, managing screen-shots etc. Do any of you veteran LP'ers use any particular program to take your screenshots, and do you use any particular online host to get them onto the forums?
Second, my schedule can be kind of crazy, and a lot of the times in the past I've seen people abort an LP right after it starts because of their schedule. In the even that I start this LP and don't have the time to finish it, is there anyone who would like to continue it in my place? It should be a simple matter to e-mail you my save file and have you keep moving from there.
EDIT: By crazy I mean inconsistant, not busy. Sometimes I have a weekend with nothing to do but sit on my ass and other weekends Im nonstop, constant busy with homework.
So, anybody think this sounds interesting?

I think, too soon personally. need more time for people to play it

Way too soon man. Do a fresh fallout 3 if anything.

Yeah, too soon. More people need to play/beat it so you aren't spoiling all kinds of stuff, and more patches need to come out.
I'm currently replaying through multiple hours of the game because I activated a glitch at the end of Veronica's quest that broke her, for instance.
Edit: I'd also suggest doing something short that you know really well first, so you can get an idea of how much work it is to do one.

We've already had a Fallout 3 LP or two, haven't we? I might just wait a month or two and run with this one still.

Nope. This might be a good way for you to practice and pull in more interest for Vegas down the road, if that sounds appealing to you at all.
And while some people may question the lack of video in a modern LP, Fallout has so much downtime running around and stuff that screenshots wouldn't necessarilly be bad. Video for some of the events may be aces, though.

Nah, I'm pretty sure we had one. Female protagonist, sorta strawberry blondish hair? Made her home base in the place with the vampires? For some reason it makes me think of Krylo. Maybe it was his?

Krylo did a Fallout 3 LP but didn't complete it. I'd say the trophy for completing a game as expansive as Fallout 3 is still up for grabs.

I could probably do fallout 3, especially since I own the GOTY edition and have a nearly encyclopedic knowledge of it (and I damn well better after spending around 200 hours collectively on that game).
Again, anyone with suggestions for getting the screenies onto the forums when I do? Everyone says to use the printscreen key but I have no idea where in the bowels of my computer that saves them. Not sure about where to host images either. Don't want it to be a site that'll replace it with "bandwidth exceeded" after 5 views.

There is a sticky for this, wherein you can find out that Krylo did indeed start one. But it was never completed, so it does not count.
e: @PipBoy: Your screenshots will be saved in the game's folder. They will be in .bmp format, so I recommend opening them and saving them in another format that can net you some compression without much or any noticeable image loss, such as .png or .jpg.
As for hosting, you'll just have to try your luck with Photobucket/Imageshack or the like. Managing a good screenshot res:filesize ratio will help reduce bandwidth on your account.

Be a mold breaker, do a Fallout or Fallout 2 LP
Also, Dropbox is what I use for all my image sharing needs
edit: The more I think about it the more I like my idea of a FO 1 or 2 LP. It's a good idea. A handsome idea.

I vote this

Yeah, I was running an FO:3 one.
Savvy people may notice it died shortly after I put in for help in the computer section to get past a bug that was crashing it for me consistently.
I toyed with playing back up to that point and reviving as it works fine on my new computer, but then I remembered all my pictures were gone, so eh. Also, I have New Vegas to play now.

Your screenshots will be saved in the game's folder
I'm looking at my program files for Fallout 3 and I don't see anything that could possibly be a screenshot folder. Could you possibly list a full directory? I can't seem to find a screen-shot key listed in the games control options either. Krylo, you've done a Fallout 3 LP before. How did you do this?
OTHER QUESTIONS:
I have the GOTY edition so all expansions will be available. Do you guys want me to use expansions for this LP?
I also know that many of us have played Fallout 3 to the point that it bores us beyond belief. To keep things fresh, are there any stable story mods that any of you would like for me to use? Importing an alternate storyline could help to keep things feeling a bit fresher both for me and for the viewers. I'd prefer one that's been thoroughly tested though, as I hear such mods are often prone to glitches and errors (not that the original game itself isn't already).

Press your print screen button whenever you want to take screenshots. Later, go to the base Fallout 3 folder. They just hang out there as .bmp files. If you have tried taking screenshots and have not seen the image files there, you could do the following:
-- open Fallout.ini, likely in your Documents and Settings/your username/My Documents/My Games/Fallout 3 directory (XP) or /Users/your username/Documents/My Games/Fallout 3 (Vista, 7) and make sure bAllowScreenShot is set to 1
-- if you are running Vista (and perhaps also in 7), make sure that you are running with the correct permissions so that you have write access to the Fallout directory or else the screenshots might actually fail to get saved as you take them
Alternatively, it's also possible that the screenshots are hiding in <path to your documents and user stuff>/AppData/Local/ in a Bethesda/Fallout 3 folder.

Alternatively alternatively, get Fraps. It overlays most or all games. And it will let you take both screenshots and videos on the fly with tweakable settings. You also get to choose the file locations for both.

I took some screenshots with Fraps and I'm uploading them to photobucket now. I think I'll post them here at least for a bit to see how they look on the forums so I'll know if I need to resize them or anything.
Not really a whole lot here, I just got bored and decided that the game needed an alternate ending. One where Private Richard Balls and his ghoul sidekick Argyll Raul single handedly murder Caesar's entire army and then assassinate Caesar because why the fuck not?

So here we are right outside the gate. Well, actually a little bit inside the gate. I got this far in before I decided this would be a good screenshot op. Right now I'm running around in NCR armor that I stole from all those NCR sons of a bitches that I murdered on the dam when I was wandering around trying to get here. You'd think that "Hey, Im just going to go single-handedly rape and murder every single person you don't like" would be enough to get me safe passage, but no, I shoot like one guy and they all have to go and be little bitches about it and start shooting at me like crazy motherfuckers. I'm packing a silenced sniper rifle, a scoped hunting rifle, a marksman carbine, Maria (a unique 9-mil) and approximately 1.3 metric shittons of ammo. I have the Jury Rig perk so repairs aren't really a big deal, especially since Raul keeps my gear in shape with regular maintainence.
http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd207/bendlee/Fallout%20New%20Vegas/FalloutNV2010-10-2509-19-33-01.jpg
Here's a picture of us. We're both smiling, but its hard to tell because I was wearing a helmet and Raul doesn't have lips.
http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd207/bendlee/FalloutNV2010-10-2509-19-41-92.jpg
So here I was going up the slope towards Caesar's base. I didn't originally plan on posting all of these so I didn't worry too much about going for the more theatrical screenshots.
After that there's mostly just a montage of death leading up to when I reached Caesar's tent.

Raul, you will eat well tonight! Goddamned zombie.
With all the guards down, all that was left was to murder the fuck out of that cocky Caesar (Kaeyzar?) prick!

Those look the right size to me, but they might be too big for those of you with lower res. What do you think?
EDIT: To make sure nobody is confused, its going to be a Fallout 3 LP, not new vegas. Its just that today New Vegas is what I was playing so its what I took screenshots of.
