There was an official statement the same day from Lucas that nixed this rumor. There are no current plans for a 3rd Star Wars Trilogy, but they are doing 3D versions of the original trilogy (for some fucking reason).

I repeat, this is not a true rumor (at this time).

This "news" pops up like every six months and has done so since 1983. Why people still run with it is beyond me.

I would comment on how much of a godawful idea this is and that Lucas should be hunted down and stopped at all costs, but it turns out it's a false alarm, which makes a nice change.

Oddly enough I would love to see 2D rereleases of Star Wars in the theaters (not the full Special Edition, of course, since those had a bunch of problems with them, just whatever remastered edition was touched up without a bunch of CGI crap shoehorned in), but a 3D release? Psshh.
