So it seems my Video Game one has gotten to two pages with some nice entries. That means this area gets it's own for fictional characters. Books, TV, Comics, Anime, Film, Table-Top RPG...as long as the person is action oriented, it can be here. Same format as before.

NAME(SERIES)
IMAGE
REASON

Let's begin with mine!

Teal'c (Stargate: SG1)
http://www.facts.be/guests/judge2.jpg
Let's face it, this guy is just awesome in my book. Funny when it comes to understanding Terrans yet one of the best fighters in the Galaxy. Not many could compete with him in a battlefield as he has proven in Ten Seasons.

Artemis Enteri(Forgotten Realms)
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s5f9aiZYH5I/RbJwci8XyQI/AAAAAAAAAGw/MetHOxjd9qw/s400/Artemis%2BEntreri.jpg
This was a call between him and Drizzt. Decided with Artemis as we need a good dose of Anti-hero angst and swordplay. That said, Artemis brings his style of swordplay and the fact he's the King of Assasins helps as well.

From here on, it's anime gals mostly friends. Apologies to those that don't like these gals. There is one guy though so do enjoy. ^_^

The Major (Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex)
http://images.mylot.com/userImages/images/postphotos/2275875.jpg
Spec Ops with a twist. Able to hack any machine or cyborg and has skills even a Naruto Ninja would envy. Not to mention the firepower she can wield. There is also the fact she makes up the tactical mind of this group.

Sousuke Sagara(Full Metal Panic!)
http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr263/Koukennin/SousukeSagara.jpg
The only man whose social interaction skills suck worse than Teal'c but has access to a Mecha and enough Military firepower to bring a city to it's knees single-handedly. Not to mention a Mecha with the ability to unleash focused blasts of energy that defy Newtonian Physics.

Yeah, going to violate it a bit by having two co-leaders.

Usagi Tsukino/Princess Serenity/Sailor Moon[Eternal Form]/Sailor Cosmos(Bish?jo Senshi Sailor Moon)
http://download-sailor-moon-episodes.edogo.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/eternal-sailor-moon.jpg
One of the two Anime chars of the 90 who defined the idea of the Indestructible Hero that no matter how often you beat them down, they got up and gave you an asskicking you would remember for decades (the other being Goku of DB fame). Usagi brings not only her upbeat manner, unjudging quality, and quirky charm of people liking her on first meeting. She also brings a fair amount of courage. Yeah she can be whiny and lazy but eh, hero's aren't supposed to be perfect and good heroes are far from it.

Lina Inverse(Slayers)
http://2dteleidoscope.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/lina-inverse.jpg
The other half of the leadership is made up with in your face brashness and comedy. If at first you don't succeed, Dragon Slave it. If that doesn't work, Giga Slave the entire thing! Lina Inverse is even more into blowing things to bits than Sousuke. She is proof that if it's worth doing right, it's worth doing overkill. Not to mention her tenacity and need to never give up make her quite the leader. Also, her work ethic compliments some of Usagi's personality quirks (and vice versa).

Hey yo that's totally like six characters instead of five, you have to drop one (I recommend Sailor Moon). Unless you think two wizard chicks can handle co-leadership, frankly I think those two's personalities would clash. Also the major would make a better leader anyway! There's all kinds of criticisms to make here! :D

I have to think mine up but I have to ask: I could have sworn last time I read one of those Forgotten Realms books Artemis Entreri was rockin' a villainous pointy villain goatee, what gives with this artwork?

EDIT: Wait, he may be rockin' a soul patch, it's hard to see. Still think he shoulda kept the pointy villain goatee.

I said I violated it and as the original poster, I get too. ^_^ So...:hush: Besides, it's a MINIMUM of Five.

I had a hard time deciding between Lina or Sailor Moon but the more I thought on it, the more I realized that as much as their personalities clashed...they also complimented each other. Besides, Sailor Moon isn't a Wizard-Chick. She is more the Paladin and also represents the need for restraint and seeing the good in all people. She also leads by heart, not mind, inspiring others with her valor and courage.

Lina on the other hand is the pure Arcane might of the group. She may sometimes be greedy and not wanting to get involved. BUT, when she does get involved...you know things are going to go to hell in a big way. They don't call her "Enemy of all who live" for nothing. She is also a co-leader for a never say die attitude, work ethic, and her access to much lore thanks to her travels and adventures.

I would of gone with The Major but I wanted a varied team and magic will always trump technology most of the time (exception is Sousuke in the Arbalest). The Major may have the best experience but think of her role as the Stealth one of the group and not the leadership. Think of her in Batman's role in Justice League, the stealth and gadgets person.

As for Artemis, that is part of the cover for either Promise Of The Witch King or Road Of The Patriarch in "The Sellswords" Triology I think.

Oh, a minimum of five, I thought it was the maximum.

Yeah I may have just misread how Entreri's beard was, I could have sworn there was at least one line in a book that was like "Entreri stroked his pointy beard...villainously".

I kind of see how magic would usually outweigh technology but the Major would somehow figure out a way to get around it. 'Cause she's the Major.

I never expected someone to pick T'ealc though so your team gets 9.97/10.

So this is a team assembled for the purposes of kicking ass and having interesting conversations.

We have Leeloo, the perfect organism, with an unfathomable capacity for learning. Five hundred pounds of kickass in a hundred pound jar; compassionate, naive, orange-haired. She's got a multipass and she's not entirely unclear on how to use it.

And Spider Jerusalem, the fearless brain-damaged face of drug abuse. I mean truth-seeking. Journalism. Hard-hitting, bowel-disrupting journalism.

And Alita, the Battle Angel. Just in case we need to fight any giant robots. She's looking scared in this picture and undeniably she's not a perfect fighting machine. But if you knock her down, she gets up again.

Lucifer, obviously, is the bad boy. He's just as likely to ignite a sun in the captain's heart as helping out. But damn it, he's so pretty. I mean talented.

The Captain is the captain, by the way. Ruthless, confident, brash, incredible judge of character and identifier of identical twins, absolutely loyal, and tends to inspire the same in his crew.

And then there's Death.

He's known to be unstoppable with a sword. So he'll be the guy providing the violence whenever needed. Which will be a lot with him around because he's having a hard time solving his problems through other means. But he's trying, okay? So give him credit for that.

Transmetropolitan: Spider Jerusalem
http://img44.imageshack.us/img44/2803/x0230506953268spiderjer.jpg
Spider will be the intelligence department. You'd also not want to piss him off, or he'll piss on you. He can also do other nasty stuff you wont forget. For example he'll use the "You're full of shit, but not for long" line way more often than YOU would think it's funny. But he'll get a kick out of it every single time. Maybe because he simply forgot he used it before. (e: In case I was not clear, he can make you shit yourself by pulling the trigger of his trusty bowel disruptor)

Gungrave: Bear Walken
http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/3791/x0336679269.gif
He's Bear Walken

Various: Samuel F. Jackson
http://img825.imageshack.us/img825/8555/x04samuelljackson.jpg
I was gonna put Mace Windu up here, but then I think Jedi powers just don't cut it in todays extraordinary leagues. So here's the real thing. Sam F Jackson, before the F fell over and lost a rib out of the sheer amazement of being in Samuel Jacksons name.

The in-universe low budget film from the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya: Mikuru Asahina or Asahina Mikuru, I don't even know which one's her first name.
http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/5233/x05animemikuru.jpg
Mikuru Beam. She'll be leader because I think it would be funny to see her ordering people like Sam Jackson, Guts, Spider Jerusalem and Bear Walken around like nothing.

EDIT: An honorary member from Sandman.
It is never shown, but probably mentioned. It's not an actual member of the League, but it helped them out on several occasions.
Here's the eighth of the Endless.

I think this would make a totally excellent league of fictional wait shit archbio beat me to it

Fuck you, posting anyway

EDIT: Modern league would be like... the Terminator, the fat guy from Lost, Lisa from the 1980s teen comedy Weird Science, Patricia Arquette's character from CBS and/or ABC psychic-detective drama Medium, and Tom Cruise. Not any character played by Tom Cruise. Actually Tom Cruise. They get their missions from what's her fucking name, the girl from Titanic who was an old-ass lady at the end.

I am talking to those who are referencing the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen graphic novel. While that and the thread I found in searching for images of a character for an RP board might have been the inspiration... I wanted people to be original in who THEY chose. Not quote something already done.

Now, in a marginally less idiotic way, to make a League of Extraordinary Modern Characters. At first I thought to make as direct a modern analogue of the original* League as I could while still being fun.

Indiana Jones, today. So, very, very much too old for this.

Clarice Starling. The Bride of Hannibal.

Mystique. Could be anyone. A sociopath with an ability that lends itself well to being a sociopath.

The Thing. Could be anyone, but is really an alien from the antarctic who just looks exactly like this normal guy if not stressed and has become self aware of his dual nature. Ravening monster, superficially cultured.

Batman. His parents are dead. Revenge. Brooding about revenge. A practical vehicle with a bat motif. Gadgets.

All in all, not as fun as a freeform dream team (not fun enough to justify finding a picture for Batman and a 100 year old Harrison Ford,) even if I replaced Batman with Black Manta (who comes with a sub for easy identification and is sometimes an exile who's angry about stuff.)

Next episode: more of a freeform team!**

*To the extent that this work by Moore is original.
**Lenny's not in it.

Again I have no pictures, but here is my league:

Richard Rahl, The Sword of Truth series (not the lame one from The Legend of the Seeker): If any of you have read Terry Goodkind's books, you know that he is simply badass. He is an extremely gifted swordfighter, he is an archer that does not miss, he is a very good woods guide, and that was before he learned that he was a the true Seeker of the Truth. Wielding the Sword of Truth, Richard can unleash a smite evil on steroids that can obliterate just about any evil doer, and he can unravel the truth about anything with the sword's help, and he can "Dance with Death" which enables him battle countless skilled warriors without taking a scratch. He is also the heir to the throne of the D'Hara Empire, which enables him to protect those who swear fealty to him from the ravages of the Dream Walker. He is also the first War Wizard born in 1000 years, which means he has both additive and subtractive magic, so even without his sword he can obliterate you out of existance. HIs only fault is that he can get kind of preachy, you can go through one or more chapters of his same "You have to stand up for what you believe in against oppression and those who would take your freedom" in especially the last four books in the series. Still he is the perfect combination of martial combat/offensive magic, and he is a very serious palidin type. His entourage, Zedd the First Wizard (also his grandfather), Kahlann Amnell the Mother Confessor (also his wife), Carra the Mord Sith, and Nicci the former Sister of the Dark and Disciple of the Imperial Order, would make a great league by themselves.

Raistlin Majare, Dragonlance: This seemingly sickly wizard's apprentice became so powerful that he eventually became a god, and very nearly wiped out the rest of the gods. Of course with Raistlin as the world's only diety, the world began to fall apart because his focas only on himself, but still what other mortal would have the cahonnes to storm the heavens and the Abyss and attack the beings that created your world.

Mina, Dragonlance: One of my favorite villains of all time from two of my favorite trilogies, The War of the Souls and the Dark Discple. She starts out as a twisted Joan of Arc who is trying to save the world from some monstrous dragons in the name of her One God. Her saving of the world comes with the price of the One God's enemies (namely the elves) getting close to being wiped out. She eventually controls all of the souls that have died and cannot crossover to the afterlife, leads an army of 100,000 undead as well as several thousand cromatic dragons, and rides a ghost dragon that represents all of the dragons that had been consumed by the ones she was trying to save the world from. She is not as impressive after the One God dies, but in the end she basically flips the bird to all of the other gods, and they being fearful of her say, "Ok, Mina, we will leave you alone, just don't hurt us or our world, please."

Alex Cross, James Patterson's Alex Cross series: Ok so Alex is very mundane compared to the others I have mentioned. He does not have magical powers, and he lives in our mordern world. He is a brilliant detective who uses his skills as a psychologist to figure out and track down the most vicious and high profile serial killers in the country. He is a very good hand-to-hand combat fighter, and he is also an expert marksman. He has brought to justice almost all of his querries, but one, namely Kyle Craig, still elludes him.

Grinsa Al Jariet, Winds of the Forelands: The hero of David B. Coe's wonderful series, Grinsa is Quirsi (white haired people with magical powers) with a secret, he is a Weaver. A Weaver is a Quirsi that has all five abilities (usually an individual has only one or two of these abilities), and he or she can co-opt the abilities of other Quirsi with devestating affect. When a rogue Weaver threatens to tear apart the Forelands with an small army that can wipe out millions, Grinsa, despite being oppressed and having to hide his identity, stands up and attempts to save those who would put him to death.

So there we have it, though I am not sure if they would all get along. I think Richard Rahl, Alex Cross, and Grinsa al Jariet would find common ground. But I do not think that they would see eye to eye with Raisltlin Majare, or Mina. Of course, I highly doubt that anyone would want to mess with such a formidable League of Extraordinary Fictional Characters.

Harry Dresden, of the Dresden Files. A wizard who's taken out three kinds of equally terrifying vampires, zombies on steroids, evil sorcerers, insane fairies, manic werewolves, ancient demons and... well...
http://www.dandossantos.com/gallery/illustrations/full_dresden3.jpg
No matter how hard he gets his ass handed to him, he always pulls himself together again with a Spiderman-esque quip. Fuck yeah.

Linkara, of Atop the Fourth Wall. An internet reviewer? What's he doing here? But with an excessively convoluted and silly developing mythos to the show, Linkara has gone beyond simple "guy who makes fun of bad comics" to a Power Ranger, Starship captain, the Pokemon Trainer of Pyramid Head, all with a sense of humor to match Harry's own. And let us not forget,
http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20090118141054/thatguywiththeglasses/images/thumb/7/71/Linkara.png/180px-Linkara.png
He is a MAN.

Tallahassee, of Zombieland. The guy has reflexes beyond belief, able to take out zombies while riding on a rollercoaster and never batting an eye, laughing like a maniac all the way through. Pay the man in Twinkies, and you're set for anything that might come at your back.
http://www.wired.com/images_blogs/underwire/2009/09/mare_670.jpg
Even with the world at an end, he just picks up his guns and rolls with it.

Usopp, of One Piece. There are a lot of characters from this show who are badasses. But Usopp's the guy who can't rely on his strength because, well, he doesn't have much. This is a guy who has to rely entirely on his creativity and quick thinking in order to survive a battle, and even if he's screaming in fear and beat all to hell and back, he still comes out of it victorious. And just look at who he's got on his side!
http://img434.imageshack.us/img434/3862/sogeking2fq7.jpg
Lu Lu La La Lu~

Rose Lalonde, of Homestuck. In the course of a single day, she went from a snarky and dark but seemingly average girl to a wizard wielding a power that might be driving her insane. Her mastery of the arcane is impressive enough, though she has proven the sort to be less and less predisposed to working together when she has an idea in her head.
http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100507053005/mspaintadventures/images/d/d8/01815.gif
A quick thinker, she'd be able to come up with plans well enough, but with other members of the team equally powerful as her (namely Harry) some of her more destructive tendencies might be able to get reeled in.

This team may not be absolutely flawless, but I think the combination of personalities and fighting styles would lend well to one another.

League of Extraordinary Comics On The Webbernet:

Robin, from Shortpacked! - confused sexuality, retail experience, some sort of superpowers or something I guess.

Torg, from Sluggy Freelance! - Ability to prevent plotlines from ever being resolved, also, inducing them to spawn more plotlines which spread even more plotlines which spread more plotlines until your comic piles up such a massive pile of bullshit that it's impossible to care about anything, anywhere, ever again.

Within minutes of meeting him and Robin spawn twelve different romantic triangles solely involving the two of them.

Also he has a magic sword.

Doctor McNinja, from Doctor McNinja! - was asked to join the team; he glanced anxiously at everyone else and said "Sorry, I work alone!" Then he jumped into the car with his gorilla receptionist, juvenile mustachioed ward, pet movielociraptor, and supermarket-owning monster pal, and drove off as fast as he could.

Rocky, from Lackadaisy! - abilities include infuriating rednecks, evading attempted murder by rednecks, setting redneck property on fire.

Kimiko, from Dresden Codak! - Shows up once every three months, tries to get you to pay her seventy dollars.

The pony from Hark, A Vagrant!! - He's a real cruel bastid.

FIGHTIN EVIL,
HAVIN' ADVENTURES,
WEBCOMICS GENTLEMEN SUPER-TEAM, YEAH!
