You remember Mr. Nielsen, the guy who was the star of Airplane. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qaXvFT_UyI8) Because fuck Robert Hays, Leslie Nielsen was the star of that flick.

Here's to you, Leslie, for making me laugh myself silly throughout my life.

Well, Frank, I guess he'll be doing his spoofs in heaven from now on.

That can't be right.
It can't be.
The Grim Reaper could never take Leslie, he'd be laughing too hard to do any reaping.

And here I thought it would be a good week.

Horrible, horrible news. Not only is a comic legend dead, it decreases the chance of getting Naked Gun 4 1/4: The Rhythm of Evil a thousandfold.

I got back from home and plugged in the computer, and after several moments of mindless pointing and clicking, I stumbled upon something that really gave me a shock.

After turning on the power strip, I checked my mail, and like a hitman waiting for me at my front door, there was an obvious new CNN alert email. Only this hitman wanted to disarm me rather than arm me, and lo and behold, my beloved idol Leslie Nielsen was dead. I shook like ten dollar hooker in a church that was vibrating or something.

My roommate just then came over. "Coffee?" He asked, holding up a mug. I could see that it was indeed coffee. "Yes, it is." "Well...what are you looking so drab about?" He asked, grilling me like hot fudge sundae.

"Leslie Nielsen just died of pnuemonia."

That name, noun, verb, and adjective, and whatever 'of' is, just seemed to explode into his brain as soon as he heard it.

"I...I can't believe it!" He said incredulously, splashing hot coffee into his face, ripping out his hair, knocking over his bed, and leaping out the window of our fifth story dorm room. I could see he was taking the news pretty hard.

To think of it. Leslie Nielsen dead! It was inconceivable! Questions raced through my head: How could this have happened? What will I do now? What kind of parent names their boy Leslie?

I had just watched a vintage reenactment of Dracula for my English class, wherein he riveted audiences to their seats with his portrayal of the famous count. I was so busy thinking about how great an actor he was, his skill, his flexibility, how he had lasted through the generations, only to see how he wouldn't last another generation.

I held up a cup of strong lemon flavored soda, a good vintage, to toast to Frank Drebin, Dick Dix, that preacher on an Airplane! and all those occasionally serious roles. I think he was a president once.

Leslie isn't dead, he just went home.

I'm just saying if God Almighty chooses to incarnate himself as a singularly gifted comic actor for a few decades, who are we to disagree?

He was the president in Scary Movie 3 and 5, and at least half of what made those movies so unexpectedly good. And he was Harrison Ford in Wrongfully Accused. So many unforgettable roles, so many laughs from the facade of complete seriousness. Goodbye, sweet silver-haired prince.

I am sad, so very very sad (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7kQN7tWFio).

The future's getting darker,
We were promised it'd be bright,
And comedy just lost another
Brave soul tonight...

Had I time, I'd finish that. It'd be an epic song, and I would make one of you play it. But as it stands...well, it doesn't. I didn't give it any legs. I should probably fix that, but I'm more concerned with my rest.

And once again we loose another One-of-a-kinda Actor who, up to this day, has not found a replacement for himself withing his medium.

And that also pretty much kills Naked Gun 4, that movie would ROCK.

Also: Police Squad is awesome

He is serious and... don't call him Shirley.
