View Full Version : NPF Christmas RP: A very special episode of General Inhospitable!

General Inhospitable:

You are a member of a (on) crack squad of specialists at the NPF Hospital, treating special cases of an unusual and dire nature.

You are a member of a specific field. This field can range from anything, from Medicine, Biology, Zoology, Necromancy, Voodoo, to "Sanitation Engineer" and as such all points of reference you use in diagnosis of patients should rely upon your chosen field.

However, in actual treatment you are not so rigidly forced to use your given field, it's only a general guideline.

When a patient is brought before you, there are several stages.

The first is a summary of what happened to the patient and what visual and physical traits he has developed since the patient became ill (was working at the office eating lunch, when suddenly he felt a pain in his stomach, and punched out Chad from accounting out a window, then passed out, has since began minor swelling and discoloration (red).)

The players must then discuss methods of what the disease could be, and recommend a test to find their chosen disease's diagnosis.

The test results are at the GM"s discretion, and their result may be both random, contradictory, or conclusive (to a degree) and may not be in any way directed at a set in stone actual ailment of the patient.

Players are free to decide amongst themselves what tests will be run, and in what order (also known as "Get your Ouija board out of his damn face so I can inject him with 3 cc's of mayonnaise"), and after sufficient testing, players must then vote on whose diagnosis is correct.

To make things plain, you as a doctor are a member of a cutthroat, dog eat dog world of medicine, and when it gets down to it at NPF hospital, it doesn't matter so much as curing the sick as it does proving your right, and the most important part of this game is proving to everyone and the patient that your diagnosis (however insane or illogical) is the correct one, and then proceeding from there. As everyone voting for their own diagnosis would lead to an equal share of votes across the board and a tie, you must somehow convince others that your diagnosis and findings are 'more' correct than everyone else's.

You are free to use another player's conclusions from their test as extra 'proof' of your conclusion, however your diagnosis must match your field, this is needlessly important for lulz.

Do not fret if you lose the vote for diagnosis, as what follows is actual treatment, which is much more fun. Even if your 'diagnosis' is wrong, you can still devise a treatment to cure the diagnosed disease, and furthermore you're more than willing to team up with another doctor against that hateful victor of diagnosis. Your treatment is to be discussed amongst the other doctors (you fight over it, then vote), and then chosen to be run.

However, in attempting to perform your treatment, you must deal with Dr. Cuddy, who amounts to the antagonist of this game, who has heard about your crazy plan and will have none of it, threatening your doctor's badge and your lifetime supply of anti-depressants. You may deal with her in any way you see fit, short of killing her, but be careful, she's in her 40's and has a stick up her ass the size of Intergalactic Space Fortress ship Macross! She may flay you alive!

The actual treatment will be run by the victor of the treatment vote, but will require the full cooperation of the entire staff, especially when the treatment leads to a result.

At the GM's discretion, your treatment may or may not work. If this happens, you are a free to establish a new diagnosis or treatment and run it at your own discretion, assuming you can do so before your esteemed colleagues. A doctor at NPF hospital is not supposed to be hurt by failure, as every mistake leads to more answers, and the death of your patient may be the first step to 'curing' him. (We did say necromancy, after all)

This is repeated along with melodramatic dialogue that proves everybody lies and that you as a doctor are a magnificent bastard until the patient is cured and the credits roll, and we're all inside some retard kid's snowglobe.

Flow:

Inspection (its' like the opening skit from Phoenix wright, followed with a short discussion)
STructured Tests (you all must wait in line!)
Diagnosis Vote (It's democracy with bribes and needles)
Treatment Discussion (I say we give him an enema!)
Treatment Vote (it's like democracy but WAIT did you just say enema!?)
Cuddy!: What the hell are you doing Doctor?
Treatment Result Inspection (Did it work?)
Free Revision (From the beginning of the end)
???
Profit: He's cured!

For extra shits and giggles, all actions must be entered in the form of a text parser ala Zork,

:>

But I'm not going to force you to learn or remember some inane command list, just force you to type a colon and an arrow thing before every direct action, like voting, standing up, or summoning Cthultu.

You are free to however roleplay without the need for the text parser, and you're free to talk amongst yourselves freely (in character, to some extent) as long as you don't perform actions that would involve the 'curing' process of the hospital.

Just imagine that you're all playing this as a MUD in a computer lab over a network or something. I'm sure I'll come up with something needlessly silly to replace it as time goes on.

:> Put red hot tongs into patient's demon possessed right arm.

It was hard to do, with the patient screaming bloody murder in twelve languages, none of which were earthly, but as a Blacksmithologist of 12 years, I knew that there was nothing a hot pair of tongs and a few smacks of my hammer couldn't fix.

"Y'see laddies, what a bunch of girls you've proven to be! Ethically unsound my arse, afraid of acidentally letting loose some funny snakey penis monster out from under yer beds and into our dimension, hah, I'll show you something!"

The heat of the furnace made the sweat drip from my brow. With my left arm, I wiped my face dry, before reaching for my hammer.

"It's...hammer time!"

:> Use hammer on patient's arm.

Character Sheet:

Name: Dr. (whatevah)
Sex: LEATHER PANTS.
Field: (Anything you can get a degree or bullshit others about)
Bio: (A brief description of your 'professional' history, where you learned your trade, among other things)

Example:

Name: Dr. Ashley Ethington.
Sex: On a christian holiday? Why, never!
Field: Action Science, with lots of action!
Bio: After the tragic death of her father at a young age, the precocious Ethington spent the rest of her creepy childhood skulking about abandoned houses and wells, renting old vhs tapes and making creepy phonecalls. But after enrolling in the Heterodyne school of Action Science, she soon devoted herself entirely to the swift application of intelligence to matter, also known as Action Science, where she wrote prolific essays on the values of Radioshack, a handy soldering iron, and building a fuck-all superweapon emptyhanded as a means to truly hone a scientists's skill. She graduated valedictorian with extra honors, and proceeded to spent the next 2 years in a hyperbolic time chamber of her favorite teacher, and spent roughly 12 years of perceived time in self study, allowing her to obtain her masters and doctorate in a relatively short time.

Of course, the hyperbolic time chamber was actually a study on aging as a side effect of decelerated time compared to those outside the chamber, and her professor was mystified that she still looked like a creepy little girl with long hair, and would remain so until she killed a few alien robots on interdimensional monster space crack.

You can't have a medical RP without an actual medical professional can you?

Name: Dr. Amanda Colnik
Sex: female
Field: Medicine more specifically emergency "MacGuyver" medicine
Bio: (I'll expand on this later) In short, paramedic with a specialty in making up treatments with common everyday items that are perhaps not even related to the medical field due to working for a shit-poor company. Moves up to become an Emergency room Doc and still uses her unorthodox treatments in the ER.

I'm hoping for at least 5 players, otherwise a vote will be awfully onesided, and I expect for more people to sign up once the stigma of finals is gone.

The other name I had for this RP was "Magical HOUSE", but then people'd think it was about living in some sort of magic laden house somewhere.

Inbred Chocobo
12-13-2010, 04:43 PM
Name: Dr. Inbred Chocobo
Sex: Manly Male
Field: Punching
Bio: IC can punch things. He punched a doctor so hard one time that he became a doctor. So he got a job to pay off his student punching loans here at the hospital.

IC's is perfectly perfect in every way!

The only way your character's ability or training would be too obscene is if your power was to touch people and instantly cure them of any affliction.

Batgirl's is slightly similar to my action science, but I'm okay with that.

Mauve Mage's placeholder power will be okay unless she has jesus hands.

I was thinking DRAMA DOCTOR, in which the doctor cannot operate or diagnose anything unless it is done in a needlessly overdramatic fashion.

Maybe even with a Captain Kirk voice.

I'm in on this. Ridiculousness is something I need every now and then.

And while I can't think of a character myself just yet, I thought up an awesome villain or nuisance (at least in name): Dr. Malcolm Practice (call him Mal). Chief of Medicine or Surgery or something that comes in and disrupts everything. Or just screws everything up on a regular basis.

PERFECT.

But you really needn't just limit yourself to medicine. Especially with a captain kirk voice.

"I may be, just a simple. country. farmer, who dabbles in medicine/architecture/rollingmidcombat But I believe I have what it takes to SAVE. HIS. LIFE!"

Here is an ideal insane Character:

Ezio Auditore:
Sex: Withdrawal
Field: Assassination/Banking
Bio: Ezio Auditore, the son of hung for treason Giovanni, was an effective assassin during the early Renaissance, and at one point owned all of Rome. His skills in real estate, poetry, art, and in wholesale murder were only barely suggested by his official biography, but his ability to eat pasta and hug an embodiment of Germany are only seen in bishounen bromance animes.

12-13-2010, 09:22 PM
Name: Dr. Dark Nightbright
Sex: Male
Field: Satanology
Bio: Dark Nightbright is an expert in Satanology, he sacrificed 3 goats, 2 antelopes and 7 baby possums and a goldfish to the devil to become an expert in this field, all it really did was give him a giant, yet creepy book of obscure cures for diseases, he read it endlessly. Though he still needs it in his hands when making diagnostics and it does hinder his ability to preform surgery.

Name: Dr..... FLINT STEELE! ....DDM!! (Doctor of Dramatic Medicine)
Field: Dramatic... Medicine!
Bio: Once but a lowly Dramatic Pharmacist and part-time coal miner, Dr. Flint Steele realized his true calling after losing his left eye and right hand in a dramatic car accident in which he flung himself dramatically through a window and in front of a car to save a bike-riding granny and her basket full of orphaned puppies. He saved a puppy's life by performing emergency eyeball-transplant surgery in the middle of the street, using himself as a donor and having use of only one hand.

He now wears an eye patch and a sweet robo-hand.

Yes, but remember the actual diagnosis and eventual treatment are by vote, so unless you intend to coerce the other doctors into voting for you by...oh yeah, that might work.

And I don't know how, but I came up with this. BEHOLD!

Name: Dr. Walter Ohm
Sex: Electrically Male
Field: Hyperelectrobiology
Bio: After sticking one too many forks into electrical sockets as a child, Dr. Ohm became obsessed with all things electricity. After seeing how a defibrillator works, he figured everything could be cured in a similar way... only better. He is frequently seen using methods of shock therapy that involve shock pads, wires rigged into high voltage (and current) devices, power lines, Frankenstein-ish lightning rods, Tesla coils, and much more.

My maguyver science is more along the lines of taking absolutely crazy shit you would never want touching you since they are so unsterilized and turning them into medical objects. For example: An IV made of a ziplock bag of salt water, a plastic jump rope cut open to make tubing and the little spray stick from a perfume bottle with a paperclip attached to make the needle. And gum, always gum to hold it together. Or duct tape.

Also, it's all sterile due to a heavy application of purel.

Alright, RP will be up shortly, got to unpack my main computer and type up a storm while full of the holiday cheer and copious amounts of sugar.

Sign ups are by no means closed, as any ol' jerk with a medical license or some license or a well meaning attitude can still pop on in.

Aw, hell with it. Not sure how well this would work, but I tried.

Name: Raidy Wilkins, Nurse In Training

Sex: If you can't tell she's female, you need your eyes examined.

Field: Fanscience, the science of turning fanservice into a respectable career field. Pfft.

Bio: Raidy is a woefully ignorant and destructively sexy young nurse in training who has a strong will, a persevering spirit, and an overabundance of enthusiasm, but is naive beyond human limitations and is addicted to emergency room dramas on TV, owning box sets to many of them on DVD. Some say she has a natural prowess to calm people down, but this is mostly due to them being entranced by her constant unintentional panty flashes and wardrobe malfunctions.
She is constantly examined from afar and from strange places by scientific professionals who believe she could spark a new field of science (they're probably just dirty old men who can't stop eyebanging her). Her ignorance shows in her beliefs that the actual doctors are always right, even when they are fighting amongst themselves or when their hypothesis contradict what they said earlier. She will occasionally offer bizarre ideas of how one might help a patient, but how can someone take her seriously when her panties are almost constantly exposed and she's clearly not wearing a bra?
The majority of the time, all of the various mundane and nasty duties in the hospital are delegated to her, which she handles with the same pizzazz and enduring spirit as everything else. She empties and washes bed pans. She cleans disabled patients. She speaks with them and actually seems to give half a shit about what they have to say. She cleans bathrooms. She suppresses zombies in the morque (which is also pretty hot). She seduces patients into not filing lawsuits, though never actually on purpose. Whenever someone accidentally voids their bowels or actually spills their bowels about the floor from a wound that never closed properly, Raidy is the one who cleans it right up.

Appearance: Just turned eighteen fourteen seconds ago. Stands at roughly five feet, three inches. Has a wealth of pink hair with black ends, not a strand out of place. Her left eye is silver and her right is blue. Her white nurse's uniform is just about ready to burst and her skirt is so mini that it leaves people wondering why she bothers wearing one at all. She wears a black hairbow so large it looks like a kite crashlanded into the back of her head and got stuck. She completes her sinful look with black stockings, white high heels and for some reason, black fingerless gloves with jungle red nail polish to match her lipstick.

You're good, just post already!

Shyria Dracnoir
12-23-2010, 03:20 PM
Name: Frau Doktor Shyria
Gender: Obvious if you know German (even though Shyria's sum experience with the language comes from TF2, old horror movies, and reruns of Hogan's Heroes
Specializations: Xenobiology and general Mad Scientistolgony

You might wonder how an apex predator like a dragon would ever find itself involved in the medical sciences (especially when you remember that their brain to body ratios are roughly the same as that of a walnut to a bull moose). Well, as it turns out, finding a way to cram six limbs and just over five tons of biomass into a 140-ish pound bipedal frame is tough even with magic. If you don't know exactly what you're doing, the mistake could be both fatal and really icky to watch. Thankfully, Shyria's spent just over a decade figuring this stuff out, among other things, and she's reasonably skilled at identifying and treating disorders in other nonhuman magical creatures as a result.

Now if only she'd bother to remember all that stuff about doing no harm, proper bedside manner, and basic human decency towards the sick.

Appearance:

Figured this looked like it'd be fun to get in to, even if I am behind the ball.
