Tron Legacy is simultaneously being praised and reviled it seems. I haven't seen it yet but the fact that it's so polarizing makes it sound pretty promising. Anyone seen it?

I really enjoyed it, made for a nice night out and it was fairly humorous and had some nice action scenes

Is this one also about good Christian men fighting the forces of international Communism, Marc?

I'm betting this falls simular to Duke Nukem Forever. On the one side you have fanboys that will praise it no matter what, and the other are the fanboys that have waited so long that nothing will meet those expectations.
I think thats why so many people fall in one extreme or the other

Where's the extreme for "yet another stupid thing made into a typical Hollywood movie"?

Not commenting on the actual quality of the movie. Just saying that reguardless you'd get this kind of response

Saw it. It was good.
Kinda irritated me in one spot, but it was otherwise pretty rad.

It was incredible in IMAX and I plan to see it at least one more time. It's an orgasm for the eyes.
One question though. Why did Tron stop being evil all of a sudden near the end?

...what?You know, like the first one. You did watch the first one, right?
I thought the first one was just Christians vs Atheists, rather than Christians vs Communists, but I can kinda see where you're coming from. This was the one thing that kept bugging the hell out of me when I watched the first movie a couple weeks ago.

The symbolism is pretty pronounced throughout the latest movie, yes, and is pretty blatant near the end. I didn't mind though.
Wasn't atheists/christians this time. Seemed more God/Satan.

I can easily see God/Satan if you want to read that much into it. I have my doubts any actual depth to that point was intended, though.

I thought the first one was just Christians vs Atheists, rather than Christians vs CommunistsCommunists are Atheists, Noncon. That's why it's "good, Christian men" fighting them, not, like, "Democracy." Though there is a little of that, too, but Christians are supposed to be into Capitalism and Democracy; says so in plain English in the Bible.

Ah! But see... now you are taking this as if the most devout and extremist religious folks followed what the Bible says instead of what the believe the Bible says...
But all in all, i think you guys might be reading a tad too much into this. I honestly doubt they would pick this sequel of a really old movie and give it a ton more of hidden symbolism... mostly the writers just intend to follow close to the original spirit of the story. So i would bet most of the Symbolism is probably unintentional.
The original spirit of the movie is all the good guys are religious and all the bad guys want to get rid of religion. Not reading too much into that as that literally IS what the movie is about.

I always thought it was more, technology could make life hell, but will definitely make it awesome
Also: one day nerds will rule

I thought it was just a clever plot device. If you're writing about people living inside a computer, then someone from the outside entering what amounts to his own creation, the allegory only makes sense. And the bad guys knew "users" existed in the original movie, they just kept it under wraps from the blue guys so they would retain their power. The leader of the reds actually says that they were written by users and even the master control program was.

I actually enjoyed the idea of Users being akin to God. I'm not deeply religious but the idea was done well-enough that it got me thinking about some other analogues made in the film. The parallel actually made sense given the context.
I saw all of the big plot developments coming from a mile away but I really enjoyed the execution. My only real complaint about the film was that it should have been bigger. The stuff about Tron really should have had more time devoted to it and I would have really liked to see the threat they were trying to prevent pan out in the climax. Seriously, how fucking insane would it have been to see the action move into the real world with light cycles racing down streets and those ships going through the air?
Overall, I really enjoyed the movie. It was as good if, not better, than the original.

And you really think there isn't someone out there right now pushing that idea for a sequel?
Isn't this how we got Jurassic Park 2 and 3?

I would say JP2 wasn't too bad. It was a good movie but not as good as the first.
JP3 though was bleh to watch and quite frankly...I was ticked when Spinosaurus killed T-Rex.
Fun Fact: The Raptors in the movies are based on a species of Dromeosaur that really existed. It is called Utahraptor and I know this because one of the consultants for the Jurassic Park movies wrote fiction book that I think I still have...Raptor Red.

I don't doubt that for a second but with the way the movie ended, they'd have to pull something stupid out of their ass to make it happen and it wouldn't have the same impact.

I'm surprised this movie's as polarizing as it appears to be. I saw it tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. My only complaint was along the line of Sevenshot's first one; that the whole Tron/Rinzler thing should have been played up more at the end. They certainly built up to it enough! At the very least, his helmet should've come up and we should've been allowed to see that it was Tron.
But yeah, I had a great time with this movie. I even didn't completely hate the 3D! (I thought it was a nice touch that the Real World scenes were in 2D.)
Also, no one here has really talked about the superb soundtrack! I'm definitely gonna have to get me a copy of that...

Thin story was disappointing becuase there's a lot of really good strong science fiction concepts to explore in the 'Tron' world, but light-cycle battles were awesome.

The score was amazing. Daft Punk pulled out all the stops for this and I would have to say the best show of it was during the fight scene in the End of Line club. It made that scene.

Anyone know what the one song at the start was called? The one that sounded kind of like an older rock ballad.

I was quite impressed with the visuals and soundtrack, although just about everything else was awful. Still worth watching, though.
As for those people mentioning/complaining about religious allegory, it looks like they stayed as far away from that as they possibly could while still making the movie. I mean, theres a really old guy inside of world inhabited by creatures he created. Even when the whole retarded "iso" thing came up, he didn't claim credit for creating them, he merely said that they came into existence. Aside from that, he had an unrealistically low level of control over the place. You'd think if he were in a world of his design, he'd have some kind of incredible power over it to perhaps cause things to move at his will, the ability to teleport etc etc. Even if he didn't have any kinds of admin powers, if it was originally designed as some kind of game, you'd think he'd know a cheat code or two. Ultimately, he didn't seem to be able to do anything any other user wouldn't be able to do, and I don't see why they'd make him so weak except to avoid an unintended god metaphor.

I thought Jeff Bridges did an amazing job playing three versions of himself. And Michael Sheen felt like some great character out of Blade Runner or something.

You can get the soundtrack off of Amazon. Which you really really should. Then upload it to your 360 and have it playing while in the middle of a Halo match. It makes the game unusually epic.
OR, play Kinect Sports ping pong while Derezzed is playing in the background. Awesome.

it was a fun action movie that flirted with interesting science fiction concepts but didn't commit because it was busy going to the prom with a generic fantasy plot
light cycles were sweet as fuck though
