First I'd recommend pulling any map files you want to keep. Then probably try to delete the Minecraft data folders (both root and local) and relaunch the minecraft launcher. It should then re-update with the current unmodified version. Copy map files back in and you should be good to go.
On second thought, what kind of mod is it? If it modifies the map it may have caused broken coding and ruined the map.
If your map file is messed with I might be able to play amateur code-monkey and fix it.

NESS, JACKIN UR THREAD
In the absence of anyone else doing it, setting up some minecraft serving.
Don't take it too seriously for the time being, for now it's just to see how this all runs and such.

I think my upload speed / machine specs will handle a decent number of players but WE WILL SEE I GUESS
Monsters currently switched to OFF, I'll see about that once I see how well this runs with, uh, at least more than one other person on it.
Anyone interested, give it a go and see how it works for you, let me know if you're able/unable to log in, whether you can play/are crushed with lag, etc.

delete the bin folder in the .minecraft folder then run the game
That is all it takes.

Sure, do the easy way instead. I just do it the way I know would work.

WHO WOULD EXPECT this simple process
would meet with UNFORSEEN COMPLICATIONS
EDIT: bitvyper is currently connected so it looks like this shits is working for someone.
EDIT: IF possible post like where-ish you guys are connecting from?
I am hosting this thing from the San Francisco area so if people are trying to get on from like... Luxembourg, then shit might be expected to time out?

Then we wouldn't be able to load minecraft at all. Minecraft itself is works fine here.

Fifthfiend

WELL minecraft.net is currently up.
So far the record is like, 2 successful connections (me and bitvyper) out of like 6 or 7? WHICH IS QUITE AWFUL. I'm gonna work on figuring out whether it's something I'm fucking up or what. If anyone's got any more ideas than I do hit me up on like, AIM or such. As far as I can tell my ports are forwarded and testing my down/up speed was averaging like... 7Mb/3Mb so that shouldn't be a problem. I SUSPECT I FUCKED UP THE PORTS, if there were anything I were going to fuck up it would certainly be that.
It's possible that Marc is right though that there are just general Minecraft problems right now.
Gonna leave it running overnight/tomorrow so if anyone else is actually able to get on this shit then let me know. Not sure what the long-term plan is for any of this, especially if Ness gets his game back up and running in which case there is a near-infinite chance of me saying FUCK THIS HASSLE but barring that I'm just playing it by ear.

I think maybe Windows Firewall might be what's been blocking people out since it never asked me to unblock minecraft_server when I first ran it like it usually should when I run a new network-based program. I added m_s to the exceptions manually soooooo maybe that'll work.

I can log in fine and I'm on another continent.
Being the only person there may have something to do with it.
'tis a lovely map.
EDIT: Alright, it booted me and I can't get back in. Probably site trouble I guess?

HEY THUR okay you were in and then i kicked you the fukk out cause I was resetting my router and didn't notice someone was actually in.
Anyway whatever is up it looks like it isn't geographical so that's good to know. I'm willing to guess that unblocking this in WF fixed it.

The server should be up at the very latest Saturday. If my internet isn't back on by then I will probably go and kill an AT&T Rep.

All right well at least Ness is gettin' his shit back up and running soon. In the meantime I will continue this ridiculous experiment.
I switched off my windows firewall (PLZ DONT HACK ME) so we'll see if that improves anything.
The one other thing I can think to ask people who are getting connect errors is try logging onto another minecraft smp server somewhere, at least then I'll know if it's something on my end that's fucked up or just a general minecraft problem. Failing that I guess tonight I'll just try deleting/reinstalling everything.
Melfice
02-08-2011, 02:58 PM
Try deleting your system32 folder.
I hear that's causing a lot of problems for people who host minecraft servers. =3
(Oh, gods... I know everybody here is smart enough, but just for safety: DON'T FUCKING DO THAT! And if you DO, I didn't tell you to.)
Also, I second killing an AT&T rep.

Fuck this, I'm gonna keep building on my single player map (two awesome mountain ranges within sight of my spawn point, total keeper).
And that tunnel I dug underground is now deemed pointless, given how I've mastered a technique for making a suspended mine track. So I'll be making that instead.
I'll leave the tunnel for people who might want to use it for some reason or another.

It works. Somehow. Found a nice huge cave by spawn. Long initial drop, though.
Edit: I think I wanna call dibs on Mt. Chunk Error (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2383368/screen_20110209_05-11-05001.png) here.

Apparently I'm the fifth unique player to play on fifth's server.
EDIT: Some chunks aren't loading, saw a brief lag in lighting calculation while mining and your map is in general boring. I'll probably build a skybase there once I perfect my single-player one.
Fifthfiend
02-09-2011, 01:43 PM
your map is in general boring.
http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/tt148/fifthfiend/reactions/qn0g8n.gif
EDIT the chunks not loading was probably the result of a memory leak which occurred some time last night.
Things seem to be running smoothly now! If this state of affairs continues I may try turning monsters on, see what happens lag-wise and such.

Man if you can't connect to this server at this point there is honestly nothing I can do to help you on my end.
Are you getting a "javascript something something forced close error something" type of error, with a lot of um... periods between the words and such? I got that earlier today when I was trying to get in and just had to wait a bit and try logging in again, it seems to just be general minecrafty bugginess.

Since I have an awesome hole in the wall on your server I'll get back to construction.
EDIT: I'm getting a "taking too long to log in" error. Whatever, gotta seal off some mountain ranges on my own map anyway.
