At the tender age of 12 the man now known only as The Dark King did that which is forbidden. He summoned and bound the demon En and with his power began constructing a massive empire. Its been over 30 years since that day. The Dark Kingdom is now the largest nation on Earth with no signs of stopping. Village after village falls, crushed under his relentless war machine.
This has made him many enemies, this has made him your enemy
Your reasons may differ on why you summoned your demon partner, but one thing you all share is your desire to defeat the Dark King. Be it revenge for what he has done to you, or perhaps even to replace him and rule yourself.
DEMON SUMMONING
Myth: You are all taught at a young age to never attempt to summon a demon. If you do it shall corrupt your mind and eventually betray you. Slaying you so it can be free and rampage across the lands. No good can come from it.
Fact: While much of this is not true, their warning no good will come of it is a valid one. When bound the demons mind is remade to be subservient to you. Its personality remains, it can argue, object, and complain, but ultimately it will do as you command. Not through magical force, but the binding left an inherent loyalty in it.
Upon summoning you also learned the conditions before being bound. Demon will serve you, and upon your death it shall be free to do what it wishes on Earth for a time equal to its service. Meaning even if not for the will breaking of the binding its in the demons best interest to keep you alive for as long as possible.
This means no matter your reasons, you knew, and chose, to release a demon on Earth. For this reason even those that know the true conditions of binding refuse it, and view all those bound as enemies of humanity.
Binding: it is a complex ritual and forbidden knowledge, making it all the more impressive The Dark King did it when he was only 12. there are variations but all require three symbolic sacrifices and that the binding itself will require a sacrifice of the vinculumist's flesh. Once summoned the demon offers the terms as a disembodied voice, if rejected it is simply banished back to its world.
If accepted the sacrifice of flesh occurs. In reality it is simply a tattoo placed on the body and the demon materializes. The tattoo varies wildly, images, runic symbols, letters of unknown language, ect. The demon explains that the tattoo is its true name, and what holds it in this world. It cannot be scarred, altered, or removed. The demon is an imp, small and with slight demonic features. Humanoid ones, the most common, easily pass as children if covered well.
Demonic Nature: Nothing about demons is comprehensible to humans. They cannot pronounce their true name or really describe their homeworld. Though may try to with allusions and metaphors. What they can describe is a kind hierarchy and common source of power which is related to concepts of destruction and suffering.
This is how demons grow more powerful, by spreading these concepts. Method and who suffers does not matter. Killing a bandit is the same as a child to the demon. So is doing the killing yourself or manipulating another to do it. Oddly enough the best way to help your demon grow is to fight other demons. While it cant explain exactly why, killing a worthy demon alters their station in their power sources pecking order, letting them draw more energy.
Which leads to something important to remember
Humans are not the weakpoint: Some foolishly assume that in a fight with another Vinculumist to attack the human. While demon wishes the human to be kept alive, this is for long term reasons. Succeeding will not in any way diminish the demons power, it just means it no longer has a master, but even if just to grow stronger it probably has enough reason to keep fighting.

Personality:
Stats
Speed: 5
Strength: 5
Endurance: 5
Powers: (for now this is to be left blank, but as the story goes on your demon will develop abilities)
I will allow people to pair up, one being the demon the other the vinculumist, but be very careful if you do this. I dont want a player left out because their partner up and quit.
There is more but I dont want to info-dump too much on you guys. This should be all the important stuff. But just in case its not clear, for the most part, there is nothing magical about this fantasy setting save the demons. Most vinculumists currently serve The Dark King, and since before his rise to power vinculumists were almost unheard of its even more rare to find an unbound demon.
[edit]added stats, everyone starts demon with 5, 3 is considered good for a human and only very talented humans can reach 5. This is just to give a rough idea of how characters are balanced and where their focuses are as they develop, they are guidelines only.
