With jobs coming in less frequently then usual. Business has been slow at Lumina Guild. Desperate for money, Sarina and Queenie accept a request E-mail from a man named DJ Vector. Who’s willing to pay the girls millions of Alts (Alterran Money) if they pass a few tests he’s laid out for them at the Ash Fault City Mall. While in the middle of the job at the Vector Trance Rave Party in Ash Fault City Mall, Sarina and Queenie get trapped in Cyber Space by their job requester, the cybernetic DJ, DJ Vector, who wants to get revenge on the long dead Silvia Phantom for ruining his plans for instrumentality and trapping him there in the first place. With the help of Annabel Vandalia (Sarina’s arch nemesis), Dantz, and Siren Gale, can Sarina and Queeny escaped DJ Vector’s trap?

Personal tastes and my refusal to scrap a character design because I have too many of something. Same goes for me not changing any character species.

However Sarina and her family (the Vandalias) are a different story being plot relevant to her story and its theme (individual fame and freedom).

Been dealing with an art block lately when it comes to Backgrounds. So I redrew my two Reapers while I wait it out. Both are more practice with the stylus namely getting proportions right in different poses. As well as wallpapers (16x9 and 16x12) that I wanted to make more of.

Might scrap them instead of finishing them since I made Eve's bust too big and Vita's legs too thick among other glaring mistakes. Not rendering since I have no idea what I'm going to with the Background.

The first drawing was the second thing I made in Jan 2011. But I never finished nor posted it till now. It's of a character I created that I at the time had no plans of using in mischief knights. (before that incident on PA back in June 2011 that led to me stopping Mischief Knights for a good while)

While I do have notes for this character. It's for the best If I don't share them. Since no ones really going to have any idea what I'm talking about without spoiling the entire prequal arc. You know, that skipped first story arc that I put off to the side in order to do the second arc first.

To make easy to understand what I'm talking, let me type this a bit clearer.

*"D-Resonate" is a story that revolves around 3 main characters. Dash Steller, Sarina Phantom, and Queenie Aroma.

*"Mischief Knights" is really "D-Resonate's" second major story arc. It pauses Dash's story and picks up where Sarina's left off earlier in the first arc.

*I skipped the first arc "Dash Chronicles" and nearly half of Dash's story and some of Queenie's because I favored Sarina more then those two. And because Dash's story gets confusing towards the middle since gets mixed in with Queenie's. If I didn't skip that arc and his story, you would have seen Rei a lot sooner along with Siren.

Anyway this was an kind of old design that was made for her. I felt that since it was literially the first thing I drew during start of 2011, it'd be a great thing to redraw and compare for 2012.

My appologies to everyone that I still owe art too. I'll get to you all in ASAP. Just dealing with somethings right now.

I like the face on Annabel Vandalia 2012 FCSP. Or, like, the eyes and mouth, anyway. That pretty much carries the whole picture, really.

I mean, I'm no artist. I've seen way worse anatomy; it's, like, not distracting anymore. And your colored lines are pretty competent now. She's, like, pushing her boobs up with her arms, I guess, but you're definitely getting better. I just wish you'd draw other stuff sometimes. You know, since you want to get better at drawing in general, I think.

But, yeah, you're getting there, I think. Somewhat.

Oh, yeah, I've got a real specific criticism: if she's wearing a bra, her nipples are probably not gonna be visible through her... vest, I guess. Undershirt, maybe? I think that's, like, one of the functions of brassieres. Pretty sure.

Not really sure how many of you might remember this but I did mention before how Sarina's witch costume was special [ http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o180/kyanbu/Mischief%20Knights%20gallery/Color/MischiefKnightsReviseSarinaWall2012FC.jpg ] during Mischief Knights Episode 0
. Well in addition to giving her some protection against spells and energy based attacks, it can also change form. For Sarina this function is called "Style Shift"

This is Sarina's "Blade Master Style". Her body suit becomes a corset, the cloak and gloves becomes a long coat, the stockings become hot pants/tights, the highheel sandles become open toe boots, and her hat turns into a buster sword named "Winter Rose" that's roughly 5.5ft in length.

With "Blade Master Style" Sarina's spells can be cast from her sword mid swing. Her blade can also freeze the spot it cuts. And no dispite the name it doesn't make a her a master swordswomen. Its just a cool name Sarina made up for it. XD

Her other form is called "Hex Master Style" which is shown in the link below to the left.

Re: Motion practice:

The first and foremost thing to note is that the picture really doesn't depict any motion at all. By all accounts the only things indicating she is doing anything other than floating on her back in midair are the barely-visible speedlines, which themselves only just correlate to the intended motion of the body itself. Even when done correctly, speed lines do not automatically equal motion. I can't fully explain how to do it properly, because it is a tricky subject, but start by looking up "dynamic motion", and other search terms along those lines.

Re: Siren Gale, even though it's two months old:

Her horns don't match up at all. One of them appears to be coming out just above her eyebrow, while the other one might possibly not be attached to her head at all.

I'm not sure what you were going for with the drop shadow, but it's more distracting than effective. If it's supposed to be an actual shadow, it needs to match the depth of her body features rather than perfectly matching her silhouette to essentially give us a cardboard cutout. If it's supposed to highlight her, a more effective way to do it would be to have it scaled up slightly to encompass her entire body, rather than just being shifted slightly to the right.

I also cannot fathom why her pants are undone (among other things across your many pictures, too numerous to mention) particularly because I seem to recall you taking issue with your work being seen as T&A in the past.

Unless there's another, identical light source we cannot see, it doesn't make much sense for there to be glowy blue highlights on her front. The moon is, after all, clearly behind her. If the light source is in fact in front of her, it (and her) would need to be a lot brighter in order to reflect off the moon like that.

Also, the folding on the sleeves is somewhat arbitrary; her left sleeve appears to be twisted round and round her arm, even though there's no discernible reason for that to be the case. Her right sleeve has a similar issue, except it somehow continues to twist in the same way (from our perspective) after her arm folds. Basically, Unmoving Plaid (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/UnmovingPlaid) applied to clothing folds.

And on a general note, the hair on your characters is way too stiff. In some cases it seems like the hair even has joints. Even when treated with hairspray or something similar, hair doesn't look like that when treated right. You need to make the hair appear a bit more fluid and less like a contiguous mass. Use more, and softer, curves, rather than keeping as much of it plastered to their skulls as possible, and try to minimize perfectly parallel lines.

Further, there could stand to be more consistency in terms of muscles. It doesn't really make sense when your girls have supernaturally-chiseled abs and little-to-no muscle mass anywhere else on their bodies.

Impossibly-skintight clothes remains an issue, though I've noticed less so than before. So, progress.

Serious post: Thanks for the critics, I'll look at when I'm ready to handle it. As for the Skin tight cloths. personally I think I've just about nailed the tight clothing effects dead on and feel that if there are any visual errors that those errors would mainly be errors with the way the lighting is on the clothing. None the less I'll take a look back at this stuff. There may have been something I missed.

The motions response was helpful though. Capturing motion has been a bit difficult for me and is part of the reason the comic has yet to happen (it's not really an easy thing to get right to begin with). Your feedback will go toward helping me getting that right.

As for the muscles, that might take sometime but I'll get there with it. XD I know they look weird, I'll try working more towards correcting that. lol

Again thanks for the feed back, I'll address each of these problems in future works dated after March 5, 2012 handwritten date.

The reason I say after that date is becuase There are still some things that were drawn, and colored before this date that might get posted in the near future as FCs.

Recently after December 24, 2011, I started rending characters/objects that were either White, or grey a light sky blue color. It' was something I tryed out since there really wasn't much of a way for me to bounce light off of bright white or grey. I've seen a few artist doing this on anime-styled works and figured it'd be an okay way of rending light on white or grey objects, fur, metal, ect for me since D-Resonate at it's core is a western anime-styled project.

If this isn't okay let me know and I'll change it/reduce use of it. And if you can please list correct or better color choices for light affects on white/grey objects, fur, metal, ect.

Even white things shouldn't be drawn as perfectly white, except where the light is most directly hitting it. Typically the main color would be a very pale shade, very close to white. As it stands Sarina mostly just looks like she's glowing. When I'm coloring the whites of someone's eyes, for instance, I use either e3e3e3 or f3f3f3 so that the highlights show up better. For instance:

Depending on the exact base color and circumstances, you might opt for include a slight hint of color, like blue (dfdfff), or yellow (ffffdf). Darker shades of these base colors (not to be confused with throwing a 30% opacity black brush on top) should be used for shading to further the effect.

Look at a white cat for instance. Some of them are very white and will scale down to gray in less-lit areas, but others have a more vanilla-yellow tinge to their fur instead.

And Sarina's (and the Phantomcats in gerenal) are energybeings anyway, I don't care about her/them glowing most of the time. XD Everyone else however is a problem I'm happy to now be able to fix and address.

Drawing action: look up "line of action", knowing what they are and using them will help drawing action shots 10-fold. Basically, the 12 basic principals of animation will help you out here too. Even if the image isn't actually moving, you're still trying to depict motion and that is pretty much what animation is all about.

The comic Paranatural (http://paranatural.net/chapter-2-page-17/) does a very good job with depicting action with simple characters. I'd look at some of their poses for examples.

A 30 min speed painting of "Nightmare" from "Mischief Knights Episode/Chapter 5". Just practice and nothing more. Didn't turn out quite as planned but not bad for my first attempt at speed painting.

There's plenty of freedom. You can do whatever you want, and popularity be damned. I am the proud developer of something that was dubbed #4 worst flying and racing indie game*, and I wouldn't go back and undo the development just because of that. It's still an interesting experiment to have pursued, and we were free to do it.



*Granted, the person doing the dubbing seemed ill-qualified as best, as it was some random dude making a youtube video with 100ish hits, the contents of which were just other youtube videos from other people. Even if it was a legit publishing thing though, I'd not have undone the experiment.

Also no there really isn't, the very FIRST thing I got told when I went to PennyArcade Forum for Art help was "Stop drawing Catgirls Completely!!!!!!" Which basicly translated to "FUCK your dreams and D-Resonate/Mischief Knights!!" and that's coming from college grads in Digital Art/Iliustration.

But it was worth making. It was an experiment in game design that me and my friend wanted to do, and, according to sales statistics, to 40 something people, it was a success.

To paraphrase Mark Rosewater: Don't try to make something that nobody will hate, make something that somebody will love.

Something that a bunch of people hate, but others love, is going to make an impact. The strong positive feelings are important, since they're what people remember.

It's much more preferable to have something that half of users rate a 1, and half rate a 10 (Out of 10), than something that all users rate a 5.

Out of the 15000+ hits Mischief Knights has gotten over 3 to 4 years (I posted it on a few forums eachs with around 3000+) I only got 1 fan. ONE fan, and he admitted to being a bit of pervert. Then there are 2 readers who arebarely insterested in it at all.

Granted the story itself was badly written and I aplogize for that but even the plot didn't impress or interest anyone beyond that 1 fan.


I thought that scraping the game project for a writtne story and comic would be a faster way to get it out but that only ruined it. I'm mean fuck if PAF hated the hell out of it and there are industry guys lurking around there along nearly thousands of viewers a day. And they saw what happen well... Yeah even if I went through with the original plan and made the game first. No one would buy it after that incident. I would be the next Sonic 06 in terms of bad PR.

The game wasgoing to be called "D-Resonate". It was going to be a 2D open world platform RPG. It was going to be my love letter to the Castlevania and Megaman franchise, and bared homage to both series through it's mix of RPG elements and fast paced platforming. The game was also going to be split into 4 Episodes due to size and to relieve stress off of the programers and everyone that's not me.

The world itself was going to be big in size. The first area alone "Midnight Town from Mischief Knights" is roughly the size of the Castle in "Castlvania, Synphany of the Night" As I was using that as a base to determn the planed size. There are 5 or so areas per episode of the project, some roughly the same size, some smaller. While the main story missions will only take up a small part of each area's map, the rest of the extra rooms and paths would go towards exploration and side quests/events.

I was also planing on putting in a day and night/weather function but I don't think me and anyone else I can get to help me with the project would have the time to include it along with everything else.

Currently I planned to have 2 Characters playable for the first Episode, "Sarina & Queenie". With plans to add more with each new Episode (stoping at 4). Sarina was more power based and an easy character to handle for beginners while Queenie was more weaker but faster and stratagy based.

There's a lot more notes then just this but I'll get into it more if anyone shows interest. Otherwise it would be a waste to type.

Beside odds are due to well big breasts being a common thing on some of the female leads. NO one will even think of helping me (a college failure I might add) with D-Resonate much less any indi game project.

Again no, considering the plot as a whole, that would be a dumb idea. This project has no fanservice outside of the pics I've drawn. Most of the busts are even off by a few cup sizes.

And last I checked my stuff is PG-13. Queens Blade is MA/R/AO on average.

Crappy ideas happen sometimes, that's why the phrase "kill your babies" exists, so you don't hold onto those crappy ideas for four years. To jump from there to "there is no freedom in art" is a big leap to make. And inaccurate. Art is completely unrestrained, even by the laws of physics(and lets not get into the specifics of this and start arguing about sculpture or something like that). If you want to make a story about magic girls who pull swords out of each other's chests and fight at the top of a structurally impossible arena in order to reach the castle that is suspended by nothing in the sky, (and then those girls later can transform into cars and race against other cars) then you can. That's the beautiful thing about art. And all of these four years, nothing stopped you from making your magical sexy catgirl adventure. What you're talking about is pleasing an audience. If you want more people than just yourself to appreciate what you're doing, then yes, you need to have some basic understanding of what makes an appealing story. Even the craziest, dumbest sounding ideas on paper can be done and done well as long as you execute it the right way. If you cook people a meal, but fail to heat it all the way through and oh yeah you threw some jellybeans into the mix and actually don't know the first thing about cooking other than it involves food, then nobody would be expected to like it just because it was made.

Take a step back and look at your work from an objective point of view. They weren't telling you to stop drawing catgirls completely because it's impossible to have a decent story/comic with catgirls, it's because you'll never learn if you don't stop doing the same thing over and over again. You can't get so closely attached to your work that you can't let it go and move onto something bigger and better. Take some classes, look up tutorials, god knows there's enough resources online, (and if I remember right, some time ago I linked you to a huge Vilppu drawing manual, which is an amazingly good resource. People spend hundreds of dollars just to learn from someone like Vilppu) If you are so passionate about making a story then learn how to make one.

Note: this rant isn't supposed to make you feel bad or give you reason to beat yourself up more. Like shiney said, you do have some skills, but you're not doing yourself any favors by clinging onto this story/art style. Let it go, explore new artistic avenues, learn, get better, and if then you still find that making Mischief Knights is your dream, then go back at it with new skills and a new mindset to make it something worth reading.


For frame of reference, you've worked on Mischief Knights for 4 years, look up Richard Williams. He worked on his masterpiece The Thief and the Cobbler for 28 years, and I'm willing to bet that a lot of people haven't even seen it, and honestly most people that have give it a resounding "meh", outside of enthusiasts. (PS I love that movie)

Thanks CJ but being as I'm more of Game Designer and not really an artist. I think it's best If I just revive the original project which was a 2D platform indi game.

Like honestly I'm still somewhat shocked I got good at something I only did for one project. But yeah I don't have a interest in drawing beyond what I've done. Things could change and I could find a passion for it but right now, I don't care for it all that much.

I appreciate the help guys and it's been a rough day (online) but I think maybe this was a sign that I shouldn't have pretended to be something I originally wasn't just because mom said "oh hey your pretty good at drawing". That was a bad idea, but it kept me from being kicked out so I guess there's that. XD


Game Design is my passion and maybe it was the direction I should have stuck with. When I'm ready, I'll just go find an artist to do the character designs like I should have done from the beginning.

I won't be drawing much beyond D-Resonate stuff and working on getting that chapter 0 up.

Well for what it's worth I'm aware of the fact that Mischief knights is terrible, and that I'm a terrible writer. Continuing is just for completetions sake.( might as well finish what I started)

As for programing, I actually do have exprience in it. Intro to Programing was the only course at Camden County College that I actually passed. So I'm at entry level and have a basic understanding of programing though my math could still use some work.

Also it's like I said, good at it or not I don't have a passion for it and never really did beyond burning off sexual frustration. So to make a career out of it would be pointlessly frustrating for me.

Hate me if you like. It's the truth and I'm well aware of the growing hate for me brewing on the places I'm active on. Nothing I can do about it except deal with it.

Don't get me wrong. I have nothing against improveing nor do I have any problems with branching out.

I just don't feel like its something I absolutely have to do this very second. I'll post something different and improve when I get to it or feel the need to do it on my own. Till then there probably won't be much activity here or on my DA page beyond requests and commissions.


Speaking of different, been thinking of doing some tales of graces f fanart. Probably won't be anything more then some lineworks and Flatcolors though.

You never will. You're going to stew in mediocrity unless you actively try to change your attitude. And you can't just say "oh well I don't feel like changing my attitude today" because that attitude is the problem. You are terrified of challenging yourself. You're not not going to hit some magic day where all of a sudden you feel like getting better, because that anxiety is always going to be there. You aren't going to improve until you are actively trying to overcome the fact that you don't feel like it.

Maybe try to explore different art medias? I mean, at some point, I got tired of beading and wanted to expand a bit to different things. I taught myself how to crochet just for the hell of it by watching youtube video tutorials. I can't say that it was easy; my first couple of attempts ended up in the garbage (so were some of my first beadsprites). As for sculptures, I just winged it and found out I loved it. However, I could argue that most of my work is just a copy of an idea that already exists, so I'm not really creating anything new, contrary to what you're doing, which is original.

I'm not much of a writer, nor am I particularly good at drawing, but the reason I know these things is because I tried them many times in the past, to no avail. You never know, you might yourself a new passion by trying new medias, and subsequently, new ideas and new projects.
