Thanks again Brian for proving what an awful person you are by just posting a teaser image.

Anyone, can't wait to see what this is all about.

EDIT: Should have been "Demon" Cowboys.:sweatdrop

Yeah! I wonder what this is all about, anyway?:raise:

Is it more "Red Dead Redenption" or more "Cowboys and Aliens"?

Consider me intrigued!

Also, new projects won't stop coming! Awesome!

While it's great to see new projects in the works, how are the current ones coming?

MSperoni

The current ones are all going well and good, but the occasional lag in their production is actually what gave rise to this new one :)

Well, that was a great run.
Too bad about those delays, but what'cha gonna do?

Saved you the trouble there. =3

(I don't mean that. Shit happens, and if you can't help it, you can't help it.)

Gothic fiction in the same style as the original penny dreadfuls?
Or maybe something inspired more by the Penny dreadful homages such as the sidekick demon from Angel Fire East.

I'd still draw Warbot when I get the scripts from Brian. I just want to do more.

HIKYM is still going on too it's just that this is... different in one key way...A way in which it shall be, by consequence, hopefully spiffy(we can only hope :)).

Ahem.. well I said I wouldn't say ..at least not yet. Some people on NPF know all about it though.. ;)

So until next week sometime it's a mystery! :D

Let me just toss this coin in the pond... because i do, honestly, believe you guys have a very, VERY strong team. And up to this day i've yet to see a project coming from one of you guys that wasn't enjoyable. Really, if there is ever a place where a man can say "you guys are on a roll" this steady production of material justifies saying so.

So, if you guys ever need a fresh spin to fuel ideas into your noggins and maybe create a few small side-projects just for fun that may or may not turn into big things in the future, just open a thread in this forum and take in some suggestions or concept ideas... regarding batshit insane ideas for media that is pretty much what "Through the looking glass" means

Things that are snazzy:

-Suits. Specifically, suits worn in westerns.

-Hats of any sort.

-Floofy hats.

-Top Hats.

-Fedoras.

-Fezzes. Unlikely, as this would not be thematically appropriate.

-Animated stuff. Would be neat, but difficult.

This is an entirely exhaustive and conclusive list.

Okay well there's been a slight change of Titles here since it had been brought to our attention "Penny Dreadful" was the name of a webcomic ALREADY (thanks Mr.Bookworm (http://www.nuklearforums.com/member.php?u=9799)).

It's now called something else! Just "The Dreadful" (We're lazy)

Bells
01-30-2011, 12:20 AM
Just make whatever you're making with undeads and call it "The undreadful"

See? it's good because it's bad because it has puns which have zombies and appárently we are not done with zombies yet!

Also, an excuse for a Zombie with a Texan mustache and a fedora...

Also, an excuse for a Zombie with a Texan mustache and a fedora...

Don't underestimate what this comic is capable of.. ;)

Compared with some of the ideas that have been brainstormed that's relatively normal :D

Now that i think of it... i don't recall actually ever seeing a Zombie with facial hair...

Now you have.

Also, Matt, is this going to have scheduled updates? Or is this going to be "whenever it gets done" like HIKYM?

Kurosen
01-30-2011, 09:44 AM
The whole point of The Dreadful is that it'll give Matt something to do and give you guys content in between HIKYM lags which are 98% my fault due to real world deadlines and budget.

Ideally we'll be able to juggle stuff so you get a page of both each week. At least, that's my thinking right now.

MSperoni
01-30-2011, 09:48 AM
Well, I told Brian I'd at least TRY to keep things relatively hush-hush here on NPF.. more info about scheduling n' stuff shall be revealed soon :)

EDIT: I posted that above before I saw Brian's post telling you just about everything I WAS gonna say but didn't cos I told him I'd keep things relatively hush hush! :D

My thinking was 1-2 pages a week, preferably 2 depending on how it all goes :) It's a little easier this time around because......... ;)

Possible to have a fixed schedule for at least one comic per week on a set date (with a few weeks buffer for unfortunate accidents)?

I don't know about you. But I missed the regularity of 8-bit theatre.

MSperoni
01-31-2011, 04:17 PM
The Dreadful ought to make the possibility of at least ONE comic per week more..uhh...possible :D

The difference with "The Dreadful" and the other comics currently being produced is that there's a far less likely chance of scheduling conflicts. "Dreadful" is pretty much riding on the time and energy of a single person rather than a team (though there has been a lot of valuable behind-the-scenes help and much appreciated creative consulting).

So as long there is free-time, there shall be comics!

Pffft, there goes my interest.

Wait, wait, wait... Matt is doing the writing and art on The Dreadful?

He is :) At least mainly. Brian's around as editor of sorts to make sure I don't mess it up TOO much, and to give me help when I need it. Also he's serving as a "content" adviser so the story doesn't spiral down a path of hardcore sex, violence and profanity (or to guarantee it does that, I'm not sure exactly) :D

Also, I owe thanks to the brainstorming assistance of a number of people who frequent NPF. I'll talk more in detail about it all once the first page of "The Dreadful" is posted. Or if anyone asks between now and then :)

(I'm not 100% sure when the first page will be posted. Thursday maybe?)

If I'm amongst your target audience, I think you have the wrong idea.

Edit: Also we're going to need a The Dreadful thread tag now, I guess.

I guess a picture of a revolver would work. Or maybe a little devil head. (in regards to a thread tag).

I actually considered going for a crazy degree of violence ala' Fallout 3 but I thought that might be pushing it too far. I haven't settled completely on a tone for the comic yet, but I'm leaning toward a few options. I'll make up my mind as the story goes (hopefully! :D).

I was messing around in the GIMP trying to make "The Dreadful" with the devil tail coming off the end of the L and curling around to underline the name. I have no actual art skills, however, and the current devil tail silhouettes curve wrong to use as an underline.

Something like this, but smaller (obviously), and with the tail:

Maaaaybe brighter, depending on what it'd look like on the background by the threads (which is a few shades lighter than this). Edit: actually I think it's the same color as quote boxes, so I just tossed that in one.

I like the way all the thread tags look (particularly the Warbot one :D) and so I'm pretty confident whatever it ends up being will look cool ^_^

How about one that just says DREAD? Easier to read when shrunk down 'cause then the letters can be a little bigger.

But I don't know nuthin' about no tags!

MSperoni
02-02-2011, 10:30 AM
I'm okay with "Dread" . "Dreadful" has 8 letters and the tag "serious" has 7, and it's pretty readable. Either works for me! "DREAD" by itself sounds tougher though.

Based on the outline, it looks like the protagonist is going to be an anthropomorphic rat or some other kind of rodent.

I suppose it was only a matter of time before the furry fandom influenced this place.

As always when tags are requested I'm the first (possibly only) one who fires up his visual copypaste program to spend 12 seconds copying and pasting. Also changing the funky words and the colors and shit. In this case, as with my greatest work (the ComCol tag that sadly never got implemented) this took a little longer because there was a little more to do than with usual tags. Those still look pale in comparison to the dicks tag I made (which never got implemented either). Anyway. Here they are.

Orange http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/6738/dread.png and http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/3405/dreadful.png because we have enough red tags.
And here they are in red anyway http://img560.imageshack.us/img560/8114/dreadred.png, http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/5299/dreadfulred.png, because dread rhymes with red and that's the only reason I do anything ever. A bit dark, I guess. But hey.

Yeah. I'd probably be able to make a better one once I saw a page or twelve, but this is more fun anyway.

EDIT: Wow, in the forums they look a little less acceptable than in my image masher.
EDIT2: But the red ones turn out to look better.
EDIT3: Oh shit, I started Dread and Dreadful with a capital letter. SO not consistent.

MSperoni
02-04-2011, 07:20 PM
I like the red ones (the orange ones are good too and very readable, but it seems like that orange color doesn't gel with the comic like the red color does). The red ones do seem a tad dark but it shouldn't be too hard to brighten 'em up some. The "Dreadful" without the orange devil head would work for me.

what if the tag was like a bullet, with "dread" or "dreadful" written in it or floating next to it? Think that'd work or would that make it too busy?

rpgdemon
02-04-2011, 07:21 PM
Hey.

My Dicks tag was way better.

Better yet: Secret dicks. In the posts, it won't be visible, but in the thread title, it will.

See, so, on the front page, these would be visible, but as the default no icon icon for posts, they wouldn't be. It's pretty brilliant, I thought.

It was brilliant, but the world just isn't ready for it yet.

A bullet with dreadful written on it sounds like a good idea. The one I made http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/8977/dreadfubulletl.png doesn't look too good, though. It just might be the wrong bullet. A more cartoony one would probably be easier to make out. I was thinking of using a different font too. Maybe I'll try my hand at that again tomorrow. Of course someone else can make one too. It's not like I have a monopoly on tags. Right?

MSperoni
02-05-2011, 10:37 PM
I think that one in the bullet looks pretty good actually, but it's hard to tell it's a bullet at a glance. At least for me. The letters have to be big enough to be readable and so they're gonna cover most of the space.... Maybe the letters over a bullet idea wasn't the best suggestion, after all :(

I foresee someone lamenting the waste of perfectly good alcohol. Thumbs up!

EDIT: I suppose that requires clarification. My thumbs go to Speroni, as I can't see any words to blame on Brian yet.

MSperoni
02-23-2011, 02:05 PM
I'm in charge of the words here too so I get 100% of the blame ;)

All Brian has to do is post 'em :D

I guess there will be a new thread made up for the comic? This one still has the comic's old/wrong name on it so I dunno if all conversation about it ought to be kept here. I don't know what anyone's plans are in regards to making a new thread. I was gonna make one myself but someone else might already be working on one.
