View Full Version : "And The Oscar Goes To..." or "Who Really Watches The Oscars Anymore?"
Here's a complete list if you're looking for a complete list, (http://www.oscars.org/awards/academyawards/83/nominees.html) but I'm wondering about how many of us actually watch the Oscars.
You can tell me if you do, or tell me they've all been a sham since Forrest Gump won out over Pulp Fiction for Best Picture.
...
("Go back there and get me my Oscar."
"Which Oscar is it?"
"It's the one that says "Bad Motherfucker.")

I am not touching this with a ten foot pole save to say the only Oscar I thought was worth who it was given too was 2001 Oscar for Animation going to Spirited Away and 1997 for Best Visual Effects for Dragonheart.

This clip I saw last night on TV is truly relevant. Especially seeing as The Reader won last year.

That basically sums up my opinion of the Oscars most years (they got it right the year No Country for Old Men won, but I think that was the only time they got it right in the past decade).

I never really liked NCFOM. I thought it was pretty boring - but from the trailer I was thinking I was going in to see an action flick, so... take that as you will.
I loves me some Pulp Fiction, but I honestly think Forrest Gump was a better movie.
But I do not care about the Oscars and do not know why anyone does. :I

the awards are more of following formulas then actual quality of the movie, thus rendering their existence moot if not counter productive in encouraging movie making to be more like marking off a checklist.
I'm admittedly cynical, but its why I never bother with these things

Mr Smith goes to Washington clearly.
They've been a sham since Wings won over Sunshine or Man with a Movie Camera (Sunshine did win some kind of secondary best picture- winning Best Unique and Artistic Production which seems like the Osar for artsy fartsy movie"
Oscars are all about politicking and making the right kind of film- it's the reason we have oscar bait as a term. and no surprise the most oscar baity of the films won the best picture.
