See this is what I'm talking about.

I mean, first of all, 'serious' and 'cosplayer' should never be in the same sentence together. Ever. Not for My Little Pony, not for Homestuck, not for Cowboy Bebop, or any other thing someone might cosplay for. Same goes for fan art and fan fiction. They are inherently non-serious subjects, because they are done by fans of a thing as an attempt to have fun with other fans of a thing.

I meant more "serious" from a time-dump perspective. The Snake Pony song thing took me all of fifteen minutes to write. It was not intended to be taken seriously, and as evidenced by my response to Robin's comment I did anticipate some ribbing from it, but I wasn't anticipating a series of folks questioning my mental stability in a way I interpreted seriously and malignantly.

By contrast, "cosplaying" and "fanart" and "fanfiction" that is "more serious" would presumably take hours if not days to craft. My point was that many of you treat me as the single most egregious MLP fan out there, but there are guys out there who are wasting entire hours of their lives communicating their love for MLP in the form of lengthy short stories, artistically appealing projects and frequent activity in an actual MLP: FIM message board community. My sincere love for MLP: FIM aside, I am not that person.


This right here is the problem. That wasn't intended as a bash. It was intended as an educational post so that you can maybe understand why people are ribbing you.

There are apparently people -- male, approximately our age -- on the interwebs who have wasted hours upon hours of their lives writing real dozens-page-long MLP: FIM fanfiction, drawing complex and ornate MLP: FIM fanart, dressing up as furries and attending fantasy conventions, and you think I need help because I wasted fifteen minutes writing something as a joke intended to make y'all laugh?

Call me thin-skinned or whatever but given your collective pony crushes you're just pots insulting kettles, and it's starting to feel less like you're trying to be funny or clever in response to my posts and more like you're just tryin' to tear me down, and if that's the case you can let me know and I'll stop fucking wasting time posting here and presuming you're all cool folks who I can consider friends.

Yeah but I mean there's a fundamental difference between insulting a character and insulting a person.

Like to be frank you can insult Kanaya, Solid Snake (the character, not me), Pinkie Pie, or whatever and that's like fine with me, you'd never see me do one of my classic overreactions to someone saying "Pinkie Pie is my least favorite pony and she is totally a jerk." I'd probably respond in a defense of Pinkie Pie and I might act offended but at no point would I actually interpret it as a personal slight: saying "Pinkie Pie is awful" is something I'd disagree with, and something I'd take poorly, but instead I'd just make some "Nah dude you's gots poor taste, Pinkie Pie is rad" response and we'd move on.

And I have no problem with someone disagreeing with me on Rarity or defending her, in fact my comments about Rarity are often geared towards playfully tickling the sensibilities of those who like Rarity lots, that's not what this is about.

There's just a fundamental difference between all that criticism levied at characters, or even levied at peoples' opinions of characters, and saying "You need help" -- that's a serious statement questioning the psychological health of a person.

And even then I kind of laughed it off and assumed it was a joke the first time or two that someone threw out the "You need help" spiel, but then several others kind of jumped on that bandwagon and it started to feel less like a good-natured ribbing and more like a mean-spirited beatdown.

EDIT: Nah PCD like that's actually a perfect example of the kind of ribbing I actually find completely legitimate. I have no problem exchanging barbs with someone who dislikes Pinkie, or exchanging barbs with someone who loves Rarity, because the ribbing centers on insults directed towards fictional characters, and we just assign different weight and value to the characters and enjoy getting each other riled up over whether we like or dislike them.

Oh also be sure to include a statement to the effect of "You pretend your Kanaya doll is your girlfriend and cuddle with her" or "You hide in cardboard boxes every day from imaginary guards," yeah, that's not slightly offensive either.

Why questioning Solid Snake's mental sanity is just the new way to playfully rib, we should all enjoy toying with each other by accusing each other of psychological issues.

I vaguely remember watching that show . . . vaguely. Now at least I know that this condition that made me like MLP is not a recent development.

Also I just love MLP's fluid animation, which is one of the details I've watched for ever since I watched Sonic X.

Every time I play it, something glitches up.

First, I fell through the floor and was unable to fly to get back up. Then, a cloud din't break and the game refused to spawn anything else, and it froze with two Rainbow sprites on the screen at once. Third attempt ended when it stopped spawning stuff, and diving into the thundercloud froze me indefinitely.

It has well developed and relatable characters, a good sense of humor, a charming environment, silly faces, and an almost Simpsons-esque tendency to rapid-fire little hidden references at you.

You know, this is the only CMC ep that I've been able to watch twice, probably the only one I ever will be able to watch more than once.

And this ep is perfect for a time travel story next season; someone, possibly a new villain, travels back in time and prevents the Sonic Rainboom, thus causing an alternate timeline where nopony got their cutie marks, Twilight was never made Celestias pupil (Trixie was instead, and Spike became her aide), Pinkie becomes a full blown rock farmer, Applejack ends up living a depressed pretend existence with all the snobs in Manehatton, Fluttershy never learns to fly and remains so scared of everything she never leaves the clouds and Rarity has an existencial crisis, possibly involving rock farming alongside Pinkie. Dash, I dunno how different she'd be really, aside from having no ambitions forever. Probably because she never realises her need for speed and winning she ends up in a dead-end job in the Rainbow factory, which is really boring work.

And of course, because they all never got their marks they also never met and there's nopony around to stop Nightmare Moon, who now rules the world.

It would be excellent.

Because he writes parodies that go beyond, "Hey, this silly word rhymes with one of the words in the chorus of a popular song. Let's just change that one word a-a-a-and done." Which is far beyond what anyone else really did (at least, until youtube). Plus, he's a better singer than some of the nasal-y vocals let one, he plays a lot of instruments, he throws a hell of a concert, and, yeah, he's been putting stuff out every few years since the early eighties.

And he's funny and comes across as a genuinely nice guy.

The really horrible part is that both of those things will happen in this universe at some point, no matter how much Friendship and Magic you throw at it.

Also: he could just have a really huge house built or something, if he wanted to stay within Ponyville proper. Then again, as a full-grown dragon, he wouldn't have a whole lot to fear from the Everfree Forest, so he could find another cave within it. It's not that far from town.

I'm choosing to interpret this most recent episode as a sign from Lauren Faust that she knows exactly what I'm going through right now, and decided to display my favorite pony's mental breakdown to mirror my own.

That is truly the explanation that makes the most sense.

But nah seriously episode was awesome. So many great Pinkie Pie and Spike moments throughout, and several callbacks to previous episodes (with Rainbow Dash failing to avoid Pinkie and Pinkie's appearance reverting back to childhood when she "lost her friends.") Who is Kimmel?

An American late-night talk show host. (Who isn't very good, but who somehow gets all kinds of A-list celebrities to appear in his yearly skits around award season.)

What I consider important about that clip is less the fact that Kimmel (who clearly knows nothing about ponies) ran it, but moreso that whichever staff member / writer on Kimmel's team edited that clip is clearly a Brony. Aside from the FIM reference there are several subtle nods that he's a fan that you'd understand (particularly if you were as familiar as my mother (sadly) is with Celebrity Apprentice):

The specific quote about "friendship" is the biggest clue, but also the fact that the argument from Apprentice was about class differences, and of course Applejack is the "street-wise" pony and Rarity is "high-brow upper-class" and that's exactly what the ponies were arguing over throughout the course of the sleepover episode, and also precisely what the two annoying Celebrity Apprentice women were rambling about.

...It's either an insane coincidence, or a sign that someone's a Brony over there.
